NBA 2K13 News Post

The advent of Signature Skills in NBA 2K13 heralds a shift in approach for the NBA 2K series that could have a profound effect on the way people play the game. The system promises to make players whose games are more unorthodox stand out, from the sweet-shooting, terror-on-the-glass approach of Kevin Love to the all-grit, all-grind defense of Tony Allen to the corner-3-carpet-bombing of Ray Allen and Jason Terry. But are we just going to pretend players only have positive traits?

After all, if what 2K Sports is after is a more realistic, nuanced simulation of players’ quirks and individual games, surely they need to look at including a counterweight to players’ good tendencies with something like Signature Flaws.

Here’s a look at a couple of tongue-in-cheek ideas for such a system.

I know your article is comical, but I think signature flaws need to be added. Not to the extent as sig skills, but still something to make the player more like real life. (For example Javales 3-4 turnovers in 1 minute last week, nothing in the game currently accounts for inconsistencies like this for certain players)

I doubt signature flaws would ever get in 2k, but they would be funny, and in many cases more realistic. Here are some ideas:

Hack Artist:
Guys who have a higher rate of fouls called on them during contact. Ex. Shawn Kemp

No Shame: Guys who won't challenge a dunk for fear of being embarrassed.

Crybaby: guys who are slow to get back on D because they are busy complaining to the refs.

Whats a Box Out?: Guys who don't box out there man nearly enough. Ex. Everyone in 2k13.

Airball Free Throw: Self explanatory. Occasionally misses everything. Doesn't really affect the gameplay but it would give Harlan and Co. something to laugh about. Ex. DeAndre Jordan

Too Short: Guys under six feet who very occasionally, if they are in front of a 95+ dunker and they don't jump, could get jumped over. It would be extremely rare but would definitely be a replay keeper. Ex. John Lucas III

This is such an interesting idea...if 2k ever implemented this into a future game the world would be a better place lol
