NBA 2K13 News Post

The advent of Signature Skills in NBA 2K13 heralds a shift in approach for the NBA 2K series that could have a profound effect on the way people play the game. The system promises to make players whose games are more unorthodox stand out, from the sweet-shooting, terror-on-the-glass approach of Kevin Love to the all-grit, all-grind defense of Tony Allen to the corner-3-carpet-bombing of Ray Allen and Jason Terry. But are we just going to pretend players only have positive traits?

After all, if what 2K Sports is after is a more realistic, nuanced simulation of players’ quirks and individual games, surely they need to look at including a counterweight to players’ good tendencies with something like Signature Flaws.

Here’s a look at a couple of tongue-in-cheek ideas for such a system.

LOL 1 more to add called Weak In the Knees: When attempting to guard elite ball handlers. They are more prone to be crossed in thee most embarrassing way. Like falling to the floor, constantly backing away. Examples: Derek Fisher or Steve Blake.

Of course the article was just for fun, and 2K won't put these in, especially with the pejorative names, but folks are just recognizing that Sig Flaws would take the game to another level of authenticity.

I know that competitive online players hate this with a passion, but there does need to be many aspect of on the court gameplay that are out of the Users control. That is of course if you actually want to have the players to play like they do in real life.

If you make a team where , Javale McGee, Carlos Boozer, Carmelo, J.R. Smith, and Tyreke Evans, are your starters, their collective flaws, should make it unbelievably tough for even the most skilled User to win consistently with them.

How does LeBron fit the "Hostage Crisis" flaw? Melo does fit that either, really only Howard fits it

Why would you want a skill to make your players bad?

I think this is a awesome idea as well. It gives you a more personal approach to your team. Ex: Westbrook is a great player with all the talent in the world, but in the finals when he started shooting poorly he forced shoots and could never retain composure throughout the series. But on a positive note I think a good idea would be to have a random breakout player to preform at a higher lever in a couple of games in a playoff series.

You mean the 'Arrow to the knee' tendency.

It's a joke, dude. But even so, Signature Flaws would actually make the game more realistic.

They should have a WTF Signature Flaw for players who take shots take make you say "WTF?" Examples: JR Smith jacking half-court shots with 18 left on the shot clock, Andrew Bynum taking 3's, McGee attemping freethrow line dunks in the game.

The icon for the Sig Flaw could be this:

How the Hell can I make my teammates better by practicing!?!??

Definitely need a Sig Flaw called "Off The Rocker" with the symbol being a rocking chair. This sig flaw would have guys committing stupid fouls, flagrant fouls and playing rough defense.(Metta World Peace and kenyon Martin comes to mind).

The much maligned Madden football has it with things like "Drops open passes", "Braces for all Hits", and "Forces Passes". I think NBA 2K will eventually add some of these negative ones to their game.

Okay, not sure where else I could of said this regarding NBA 2k13, but they need to change the AI defence, i'm tired of playing online games, where people just focus on offence, and move only 1 guy on defence and let's the AI control the rest, it's almost impossible to score at that point, if they fix that, then i'm fine with the game, because people abuse that way too much

Makes sense. Sig skill = Sig flaws. Lol. I'd add:

Mozgov'd
Some players just seem to always find their way on the wrong end of posterizing slams.
Example players: Mozgov, Turiaf
