I've noticed the increased mid-field game in PES, but i want evidence of a ball possesion, slow build up team.

Thanks!
Let us know what you find.

I really hope the possession battle is sorted out this year.

A combination of CPU attacking tweaks (less direct play) and better defending AI (which I can already see) would really help.

Playing on all manual will most likely help too since I can't just play keep-away because my passing skills aren't up to par yet.

"Option Files" are types of memory saves that people make for the PES community. They include roster modifications, kits (EPL and such), formation changes, created stadiums, etc...

Yes, if you wanted to start a career with Tottenham it's possible. The mode called "Master League" is basically the franchise mode of this game. You can take anyone you choose, or create your own team and start from the second division. This mode includes the UEFA tournaments, so if you finish in the top 4 in the EPL, next season you will be in the Champions League; if you finish after that, you go to the Europa League. There is also relegation and promotion, so if you do terribly with Tottenham, and finish at the bottom of the table, you're going to the second division (which, with an option file, can be made into a 100% true 2nd division).

Is there a way to get the CPU to retain possession without being on all manual? I haven't played PES in like 6 years and I'm dominating possession, even against Barcelona.

I agree I hope they are but I wouldn't hold your breath. It is a little better on manual and no pass assistance bars because you get a little more stray passes, as it also takes a little more into the players passing abilities and you can actually over hit crosses.

Ok thanks, a few more questions.

do players that aren't licensed (I.e gareth bale) look like themselves? And what option file should I look for? A certain person on here post one that people like?
Is downloading it to a flash drive and importing it to the ps3 a simple process? (I ask this because my computer isn't the best).

Oh and one more thing, do the kits look pretty much spot on? Like the tottenham under armour kit? It'll have the UA logo and such? I really want to like this game, it's got the perfect gameplay, just not my team! Haha.

I am new to this PES thing as well. Been looking at PESGaming as they have a ton of people already working on kits. If you are a fan of BPL then I would say you need not worry. I think the fans have the license covered better than EA.

Here is a link to the kits

...and here is a link to faces. It looks like a lot of faces are preset in the game, even though they are technically not licensed. The work the fans have done in the editor is amazing.

I guess once they get all the teams together someone bundles it up in an option file? Not exactly sure. I watched a youtube clip on how to install it for the 360 and it doesn't look overly complicated. Basically putting it a USB stick and moving it to the game.

I think the 360 has a couple more steps involved because MS does not allow you to add game files directly to the 360; so you have to bring your game save from the xbox to your computer, add the option files and then move the whole thing back to your 360. I think you can just dump the option files right on console if you have a PS3.

I really like this game! The controls are a bit overwhelming for a "newbie" at first, but it seems each game I pick up new skills. The demo has been a more than pleasant surprise for me. It feels and looks more like "real" soccer compared to FIFA in my opinion. I really like the atmosphere, animations, strategy, etc. Maybe it is just a nice departure from EA Sports and what I'm used to. As a mild soccer fan and soccer gamer, I am going to get this game this year.

FYI, some of you guys might frequently use pes patch website for your pes pc mods, but it seems as if it's infected with a "drive by" virus installer. Just by visiting the site you can get infected. It secretly installed a bogus anti virus program on my pc even though I consider my pc to be very secure (i have a tech background). Took me awhile to clean it up but I'm all good now. So be careful guys

The correct answer is difficult to acquire a good web site. And i believe I'm fortunate enough to have fallen here. The 2012 PES release date has stirred up quite a bit of excitement among gaming fans around the world.

This is one of my issues with PES for years. I always felt the gameplay was good especially this year but the possession battle needs to be fix badly. But being on all manual is one of the ways to achieve this while also changing some of the teams tactics, that is the only way I have seen the cpu win the possession battle. And even with that I still win it a good amount of times. When I did loose the possession battle to Barca it was something like 45/55 using Valencia which still isn't realistic since you know Barca will hold possession at least 60% of the time.

I know people usually say FIFA can be an attack fest but sometimes the CPU in PES get really aggressive in attack when the time doesn't call for especially on higher difficulties. One of the issues is the CPU play through balls a lot, hopefully they tone it down and we see less of this. The CPU sort of adjusts to how you are playing if the are able to exploit you with something more than once the will likely continue to do it since it is working for them.

Perfect example is when I was doing an Arsenal vs Tottenham match the other day, I was shutting their offence down to the point that they were only able to muster 2 shots going into half time and losing the possession battle 48/52. Defoe, their striker, didn't have any shots attempted and by the start of the half time they switched to Adebayor and attempted to play long passes to him. That kind of tactical adjustment was welcoming since Defoe was not tired or even had a bad form arrow, he simply wasn't playing well enough or working for the CPU and they recognized it and corrected it. So one way of seeing things like this happen is to remember to change you attack and defensive levels and you will see the CPU playing a lot smarter, of course the will play smarter without you doing this but you can find possession battle a little more realistic when adjust your att/def levels.

You can do this by holding L2/LT while pressing down on the d-pad to play more defensive or up on the d-pad to push yours players forward more for attack; you will notice a bar pop up on the lower right hand corner to know you activated it. This is also perfect on corners if you move the bar all the way up more of your men will pile into the box and even late in the game the Goalkeeper will as well.

Quick survey for everyone who has played this demo more than just a handful of times: how many penalty kicks have you been awarded?

I've had 0. I've had the same issue in PES 12. Granted, in PES, I played on Regular for a long long time before I moved up to Professional, and on Regular difficulty the CPU gives you space to shoot in the box, so seem really hard to come by. Still, even on Professional, I haven't seen any. And I've had plays where my attacker was completely taken out, sliding tackle to the legs with the ball a few feet ahead of him, and no whistle. Is this just an issue with football games in general? I've had the same issues with FIFA. It's annoying as hell. Actually, I've seen a lot more in FIFA.

Zero for & against, in about 30 or so matches. I've had a couple of free kicks close to the box, but that's about it.

# 115 Pappy Knuckles @ 09/17/12 07:28 PM
I caused one for the cpu, but I don't recall getting any that I can think of.

Yeah, I've had a ton of those just-barely-outside-the-box fouls. Frustrating. It's getting to the point where I'm tempted to dive every time I'm inside the box when I can't figure out a spot to pass or shoot to. Course, that ALWAYS results in a yellow card for simulation.

I have had a few but this is with the PC Demo mod where you can extend the time. So as far as the console I have seen some also in their so it really depends on your play style and who you are using. I can easily draws fouls in the box with someone like Ronaldo or quick players using the move "Run Around" can really get the cpu to draw fouls.

In demo #1 I got awarded in the same game 2 penalty kicks (crazy I know)... since then, I've had like 4-5 against and none in my favor

Funny how these things work out ... last night after posting about not getting penalties, I got one. And then in a later game the CPU received a red card First time either of those has happened.. I still feel like I should see more. Fouls in general are fine, though. Just feels like the CPU plays a little too perfect D in the box, and the refs just aren't willing to blow the whistle in there.

I think as you get more comfortable with the controls/skills/feints (you could be very skilled, IDK) you draw more fouls. I find that I draw a lot of fouls with the better on-the-ball players.
