Madden NFL 13 News Post

According to Joystiq, we should see the first Madden NFL 13 title update on September 11th. No details were given.

In Madden NFL 12 we saw two title updates and were promised tuner sets that never arrived.

Let's hope the Madden team can deliver the goods this year.

UPDATE: Just received word from EA Sports. The September 11th date is not confirmed. No specific date can be provided regarding updates until they have been approved by first parties.

"The team is absolutely committed to post-launch support, and we will make it a point to keep you updated on title updates, tuner sets, roster updates, new Madden Moments Live and more," EA said in a statement to Joystiq. Providing the Madden team sticks to its goals, Madden 13 is likely to receive more post-launch support out of the gate than last year's game had entirely.

I gotcha.

As for locomotion which would be the biggest benefit in what you're proposing, I just don't think that's possible. In order to tune locomotion, you simultaneously have to tune logic. Otherwise, if the AI doesn't know how to use a different locomotion, the game will be broken.

That's what initially birthed the idea that Tiburon shows community reps a good version of Madden, and then changes everything by retail release (I still don't subscribe to this theory but I digress). People that went to the M10 community event will tell you locomotion was relatively tight. But the AI apparently couldn't function under the conditions. It didn't know how to pursue as a defender...it didn't know how to get in position to catch passes.

I have to think tuning the locomotion and the AI is a project -- not something you put together in a few weeks and push out in an update.

That's part of the reason why I think two separate tuner sets is not a realistic possibility. I think it's much more realistic that they continue on this path that their on of making the game more realistic, eventually getting to a point where a hardcore setting isn't a request but rather it'll just be a fundamental part of the game.

Was hoping for a day one patch to fix the physics. Well, hopefully this day 15 patch fixes the physics.

C'mon, use your head Big. As little as we may know about software development, I think you and I both know you can't just simply dump locomotion into today's game and call it a hardcore setting. Even that has to be tuned, adjusted, and tweaked. And the AI is still going to require tuning and tweaking. Essentially, you'd begin to create two different games and why would EA do that?

They might as well do it the right way, and eventually rip the current player movement system out and start fresh. Creating "hardcore" settings using a locomotion system that was HARDLY labeled hardcore 3 years ago is not the answer.

The ability to edit rosters OFFLINE MUST BE IMPLEMENTED. This is a must. I know there's a lot of online users, but there are a lot of offline users as well who don't even play online.

This is understandable to not have it online to prevent cheating, but this is an absolute must offline. I tweeted Josh Looman about this and I hope you guys do as well. Voice your opinions to him!!!

Here's to hoping they fix the duplicate number glitch in connected careers.

I really think M14 will be the true indicator for how much of this stuff in M13 is just stage one versus just being completely neglected like some things in the past. I surprisingly may end up skipping M13 because it's starting to sound rather incomplete and unpolished.
Too many new features seem a bit incomplete or unpolished at this point in time to turn me away. Also the fact they took out a few key features that bring me back every year, I am thinking of passing on this years version, and make due with last years. Would love to see some improvements made before putting the money down, granted, I'll still be one of the mindless millions that buy it on Tuesday because that's just how I am.

Custom playbooks are giving me issues. When I add a set Im giving one that I never picked. Its always a tight formation from guns or big.

It happens when I said edit the Redskins plybk...

^ This is good news... I guess.

There are so many issues with CCM that I don't think EA can realistically fix/patch everything. And even if they do I'm not expecting a close to full fix until the real NFL is already over.

Get it used, you'll get the game like EA knows you will, you'll save some money, and EA wont see any profits from you....

Bugs and glitches are one thing. Many are hard to find. But, the AI needs an upgrade/overhaul quickly.

I don't know who tuned this game but, it's really bad in terms of playcalling, clock management, usage of stars, players playing to ratings, etc. All of the gameplans need to really be altered to reflect real life situational football. As is, hardly any team passes on 1st and 10. They rarely pass at all out of run formations and they run almost all of the time on 3rd and 4 or less. Heck, 3rd and 2 is a passing situation in today's NFL.

Maybe they assumed everyone will be in some league playing against other humans online and that cpu playcalling isn't an issue but, there's plenty of us old school offline Franchise guys that want to play against a decent cpu opponent.

Great news! The Madden team should capitalise on the momentum they have created with what by all reports is a solid release for the franchise. With the added addition of EA Game Changers who remain the eyes and ears for EA SPORTS HQ, gamers should feel the love this season and for the foreseeable future.

Word. Took the words right out my mouth. This is why Madden is wearing thin on me. I agree 110% I'm a Offline player most of the time and these are things that drive me crazy ad make me just want to not play.

I just want the bugs fixing. Im perfectly okay if they don't add any features, just fix the bugs

Josh Looman replied to a tweet within the last hour that asked if player editing will be patched in. Looman said,

"We haven't released any information about patches."

Doesn't even answer the question but at least he sorta acknowledged it. Still doesn't decrease the frustration though.

Does anyone know if and when they do release an update, will it apply to existing CC? Just trying to decide if I keep our league go-live of 9/7.

Thanks

I tweeted him twice already and still nothing. But what I do notice is that he's been answering his friends and co workers. They been tweeting each other on how cool the online is and how much time they spent on it. They were praising him for making Madden franchise the best ever created lol

I'm starting to think that Looman made the game he wanted to make, not what others wanted. It's really catered to the online audience and that's whats sad about this. I don't think they're going to put out the edit function for Madden 13. I could handle the assisted tackles being taken out, a few bugs and glitches there, but the missing edit function on a franchise that's been on there for years is what broke the straw on the camel's back.

I think the post launch update has more to do with the online tuner sets. I have a feeling IF they implement the old edit feature back in Madden, it will be like the broadcast cam, the assisted tackles being calculated correctly, and the ball spinning correctly in past versions, only to have it arrive late January, right when the season is about to end.

Again - everybody BREATHE.

This game isn't yet officially released on the console for the majority yet some are carrying on like this problem has existed since John Madden was a boy. I have faith that this number issue and with it other concerns will be patched once all the feedback has been collated.
