NBA Live 13 News Post

I wrote last week about the silence surrounding EA and NBA Live 13.

What was going on? What was the game's status? Why haven't we heard anything?

EA did nothing to help that speculation yesterday when they reported to investors the latest on the company's financial status in their quarterly report. Ominously so, in the company's list of upcoming releases this season NBA Live is nowhere to be found. Is this a sign EA has given up on yet another NBA effort or are they delaying it or choosing not to advertise it at all? It definitely doesn't look good to the casual gamer as this is almost always a bad sign in our industry if a company isn't willing to include an upcoming big release game on their quarterly earnings report.

EA's reasoning for not including Live is simple -- they apparently have yet to officially announce the game so they didn't include it on their quarterly earnings. That's highly interesting considering EA has already put out advertising material for the game already, but we'll let it slide this time.

I am confused by that graphic on the front page. August 2012 is in EA's fiscal year 2013?

Fiscal years don't go January to January, its more like August to the following August.

I know some companies do that, but that means their 2013 fiscal year begins in, say, April 2012? I would think that would be their 2012 fiscal year (April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013). When I saw the graphic, I thought the years on the titles were wrong and should be Madden NFL 14, for instance.

There's no doubt that they are going to get hammered either way - and truth be told, Live 13 is not going to get a fair shake whatsoever. It's it's starting already here on OS an a few other "blogger" sites.

Am I expecting a completely revamped game from EA and a title that would challenge 2K? Of course not. Nobody in their right mind (including the EA team behind this project) are expecting this.

So WHY am I so excited and hyped about Live 13???

Because I (bleeping) hate EVERYTHING about NBA 2K and I could never really get into it and Live 13 offers those like me something DIFFERENT.

Regardless if Live 13 is good or bad....at least this year I will have a choice for my NBA game. This is the exact same reason why I want 2K back in the NFL picture.

It's not about my "blind love" for EA....it's my desire for good, healthy competition and an ALTERNATIVE for the game consumer.
You have got to be the most close minded person I've seen on OS.

1. How can you hate such an insignificant thing such as a game. That's a strong emotion toward something that does very little to you directly. Did the game beat you mom, rob your brother, or assault your girlfriend? No?

2. As 23 said, why hate 2K when EA is the ones that dropped the ball?! That is just a something akin to a child throwing a temper tandrum at their mom because they wet themselves.

3. You hate EVERYTHING about 2K? REALLY? Everything? Are you joking, blind, or ********? No game is perfect. That one is far from perfect. But it sure does some things (a lot of things actually) pretty well. Yet you don't see it because you've just decided that that is how it's going to be.

But forget 2k. This has NOTHING to do with 2k!!! This is about EA and the CLEAR red flags surrounding Live 13! You can sit on the fence and wait for something "official". But, damn, a financial report is MORE serious than a doctored and sugarcoated press release. A press release can lie and nothing happens. A report like this being wrong can sometimes lead to firings up to arrests So you need to get your head out of your rear end and start considering that you may not be getting what you hope to get from EA this year.
