NCAA Football 13 News Post

EA Sports has released NCAA Football 13 title update details, which arrives on July 31st.

Quote:
The first issue was a loss of functionality on the Playcall screen, which created a situation where you couldn't change the formation without pausing the game. The second issue was a random crash in our Dynasty mode while loading into a Dynasty game. Once we became aware of these issues, we got fixes in and submitted a title update to Microsoft and Sony. The first title update in order to fix these two issues will be released on July 31st.

There is a work-around for the Dynasty crash until the patch is released. If you run into the crash loading in to game, you need to resave your dynasty file. You can do this by renaming your dynasty or making a change and triggering the auto-save feature. When you do this, it will optimize the file and you can continue playing.

They have also posted the details for NCAA Football 13 title update #2, which will be released in late August.

Gameplay
  • Zone Defense has been updated.
  • We improved receiver leverage logic as well as predicting when a receiver will be in or out of their zone.
  • Improved Deep Half Zone decision making about when to split between uncovered receivers. Also, allow more zone overlapping in deep half to cover more area.
  • Deep half defenders were dropping too close to the sideline or dropping outside when no receiver was outside of their position.
  • No-Huddle QB Spy bug fixed. Defenders will no longer go into spy assignments while in man coverage.
  • Receivers weren’t looking for hot-read passes.
  • CPU QBs passing during the drop would get set passes instead of on-the-run inaccurate passes.
  • Change the logic of man defenders so they don't run into the backfield and past the receiver they are covering.
  • Route running near sideline was causing issues especially on comeback routes.
  • Fixed players not respecting global show blitz/press/back off coverage after handing off a receiver.
  • Fixed sideline streak routes so they don't get clamped in a way that the route would end after 10 or 15 yards.
  • Drive summaries should now reset after each scoring drive.
Dynasty
  • Once a promise becomes active, it was duplicating after each week advance.
  • Recruit Reports & Advisory options remained even after the "Allow Time Savers" setting was turned off.
  • Schools with a D+ Program Tradition could not get their grade increased through wins and championships.
  • In the off-season, post season games were not shown to have been played.
Custom Playbooks
  • Fixed an issue where if CPU coaches were given a custom playbook, the players were occasionally lining up close to the ball.
  • Fixed an issue where the user was unable to create an offensive playbook that consisted of 1 of every formation.
  • Fixed an issue where the user was sometimes losing functionality after the UI disappears in Custom Playbooks.
  • Increased the stability of the product by fixing various crashes.
The NCAA Football 13 team is adding a "Uniform Store" which allows them to add updated default uniforms during the season, at no charge.

Update: Just received clarification from Justin, community manager at EA Sports.

Any update to an incorrect uniform in game will be provided at no additional cost.

FYI guys, don't expect every jersey to debut this season to be free. By the wording, only the jerseys that are main jerseys will be free. Any alternatives that come out we will most likely have to pay for.

Like the idea of the Uniform updater.

This.

By my understanding, Rutgers, Arkansas, Mizzou and Vandy's uniforms will all be free. You can just about bank on paying for any others.

I do see where they went into some detail about updating zone coverage for safeties. However, it doesn't sound like any of it will address the issue of safeties getting beat deep because they step up to cover shorter routes or play the receiver before the ball is thrown. Perhaps the changes will improve the logic for "deeper than the deepest" as well. I guess we'll have to wait for Review 2.0 after the patch at the end of August to find out.

do patches apply to any dynasties you already started, particularly online? or would you have to start a new one?

Really hope they, sooner than later, get this worked out.

So another month until the zone coverage/db play gets fixed?

Brilliant.

Unless it's something crazy like the tendencies glitch, you can usually continue with your dynasty without having to restart. With this being a gameplay issue and not a dynasty-specific issue, I'd bet you won't need to restart.

No they didn't. They said updates and fixes to the default jerseys will be free. This is a specific limitation implying that there will be jerseys that won't fit that definition that will not be free.

Same as last year, it appears that they're not going to touch the option (at least with the August patch). Disappointing.

People...you need to relax and be happy they are working on the game to improve it. They are fixing the most crippling issues first, as they should.
I'm sorry that I don't like being what basically boils down to a beta tester for these developers. I mean, within MINUTES of firing a game up so many things were found to e wrong with the game play. On top of that, I have busted my *** off trying to tweak sliders here and there to hopefully mask most of said game play issues.

They aren't working on improving much I can tell you that. They've omitted out the option read defense (frozen players), the CPU on Heisman attempting 50+ yard FG's when their kicker has 60 power (Yes even with sliders they still attempt them), no mention of acknowledging the dead plays where a counter in shotgun formation is blown dead as an incomplete pass...

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that they are AT LEAST wanting to fix a few things, but the two "game breaking" features are far from game breaking. For the frozen play call screen, i've never paused the game. I've simply exited the current formation and went back to the Ask A Coach, Play type, Super sim play call screen and I was able to move freely about the play call options. I've never seen the dynasty crash either. However, there is a workaround for that as well. Those are not game breakers.

Game breakers are the dropped counters that go against you, or the complete freezing of players when you are trying to run an option. Although it isn't a game breaker, and it's nothing more than a visual thing, what about the lights in a night game that are "on" but when you look at them from different angles, they are shown to be "off"....

The point I am trying to make is that, yes we are happy they are addressing some areas of concern. However, with as much that is wrong with this iteration of NCAA, they should have already pushed out a patch, and we shouldn't have to wait until the end of August (which will absolutely be pushed back to some time in September).

I am really not sure they can just patch the CPU option up (if that is what you are referring to).

I wish they could, but I think this is gonna have to be a "brand new feature" one of these years that they will have to spend a lot of time going in, scrapping a lot of old code, and starting from scratch in order to get some semblance of a realistic, working option game
