I agree, this stuff should have been done yesteryear, but there isn't anything we can do to change that.

Even with games like COD, our son was son so disappointed with the changes in the last one, he said, don't get that series again. The 2k hoops forums here were just as loud or louder with 2k 12 issues. And every year, I pop in the MLB Show forums and people are complaining about the incremental upgrades for the last few years.

If these features work as advertised, this could be a good step in the right direction with NCAA, finally, but we will see.

No one was as frustrated as me with NCAA last year. The lack of communication with all the bugs was terrible and lackadaisical.
The point about COD is a good one, that is a series that has gotten lackadaisical. Talk about a series that has done just about nothing over its last few installments. That is a game that is hurt by what has become a yearly development cycle. You could have any one of the more recent versions of that game and have essentially the same thing, I have no idea why people would buy that every year.

I'm a Battlefield guy myself (and was previously a SOCOM guy before that). Tried COD one year and it was fun, but not fun enough to warrant a purchase every year.

I just wish EA would step up, take a risk and revolutionize their game. You're going to get people complaining about something no matter what, that's just how it is, but it seems like NCAA gets attacked from either side because they firmly plant themselves in no mans land in between. Take a stand, take some risks, see if you can't make some noise in the industry. People are going to buy the game regardless, at least try and do something innovative, not spend all this time catching up to football games that are 5-7 years old.

I like everything they talked about but I want to see it implemented and I want to see the cpu use everything properly too. The cpu still couldn't run the spread-option properly last year (they never have). They still made no effort to get their best WRs the ball. They used the same running style regardless of who the RB was (quick, shifty, slow, strong). None of these improvements promise to offer more personality and effectiveness by the cpu which was badly needed. The jury is out in this area.

Lastly, one of my biggest complaints for this generation of football has been a lack of player weight and momentum. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll be getting anything realistic again. I miss the way players moved and felt on the PS2 versions.

I feel that they give us little so we keep buying the next game. They can make the perfect game but if they do who's going to buy the next version of the game if they get everything right. With little improvements every year we still run out and buy it. As long as they see the sales numbers high they are going to keep giving us crumbs.

The link to Dustin's blog on "taking a page out of 2k's book" is broken. Looks like it tries to be a relative link under this feature.

The NCAA Football license WAS exclusive. The exclusive license ended at the end of this past season.

EA Nabs College Football Exclusive

Let's not brag too much on the physics engine of NHL12... In that game a midget could take out Chara, so it was more myth than reality... Once again, the EA hype machine creating a stir for something that really wasn't close to how they made it sound in their advertisements.

I believe so. I'm pretty sure I heard that QBs will open on bubble screens. Wish I had a link to confirm it for you though.

Anytime I see the phrase "new feature" slapped onto an aspect of NCAA Football, I cringe. It means it will be overblown so that you know beyond any doubt that it's in the game. I think of past "new features" like "jump the snap" and the one year when EA routed big plays on special teams (blocked kicks and returns were way to plentiful).

I fear the passing game may become impossible this year. It will be botched, but will be fixed next year, only to have some other "new feature" overblown to the extent that it kills the game.

Rinse and repeat.

I'm mildly excited about 13. They say they fixed Super LBs and Psychic DBs, and I'll believe them until I see that it isn't fixed. Also, I was really getting tired of how the QB play has worked the past few years. Just got old that a majority of the time you could only hit certain routes, and I ended up throwing those routes over and over again. Hopefully in 13, I can throw to more than 3-4 routes on a drive.

I'm just happy they're working on GAMEPLAY and not Road to the Heisman and Mascot Games.

Totally agree with this. The new timing changes to the passing game and new trajectories should improve this area, especially routes to the outside WR like comebacks.

I was very pessimistic about NCAA 13 given my utter dislike of NCAA 12 but so far so good. The truth is I've enjoyed the odd version years of NCAA and hated the even years. Hopefully that continues with NCAA 13 as I miss dynasty mode.

Never played NHL12 but the same goes for FIFA. For the most part momentum is completely overlooked. CPU players turn and spin on a dime as if all of their agility ratings are in the 90s. The new physics engine completely ignores weight and force. I applaud the idea of the new engine but frown at the implementation. Sadly this is something that is far too common with EA games.

The more I looked at the NCAA 13 video and played NCAA 11 and 12... The more I realize that their gameplay enhancements are starting to come off like a gimmick. Everything from the supposed new passing system, to the new trajectories. Everything in the live gameplay video looked the same as last year and the one before. I am going to wait for June 4th, but everything points to no real innovation.

I'm not trying to be one of those nyah-nyah's that tries to ruin it for everyone, but after the debacles that were Fight Night Champion and NCAA 12 I'm never buying an EA game on release day again, if ever (old Tiger Woods exception). B-Day gift would be only way and even them I may return it.

First off, your post has a latent admission that there were problems with the engine on the previous gen.

However, years later the game is still using that very same engine. Therefore, your post, at the very least, cedes that certain problems have plagued the series for years.

Secondly, if you tweak the game to the point where you can enjoy it, wouldn't you also be guilty of using the same sliders that you claim have spoiled gamers? If you're tweaking the game, you're doing so with sliders.

Furthermore, it logically does not follow that "we all used to have a good time" in the PS2 days before we were spoiled with sliders. Sliders were in every PS2 game. In fact, they've remained virtually unchanged since then (another indictment of the series).

Lastly, this series and its issues were discussed just as passionately on forums during the PS2 days. The chorus just seems to have grown louder.

That cacophony of criticism should not be blamed on forums nor on spoiled gamers. It should be blamed on EA as they have turned a once shining series into unremarkable, non-innovative also-ran.

I think what he was trying to articulate was with the forums and the internet today people come here read a ton of impressions, bug threads...t and then get things in their head and don't just play the game, tweak a little and enjoy it first before reading so many opinions about it.

I think people fall into this trap and get a pre-mediated approach to the game and look for stuff to pick apart and not like before just relaxing and firing up the game and playing it.

I fortunately do not. I love this board. It has become my favorite place to hang out on the internet as there are a bunch of great guys here who share the same passion and approach to sports gaming that I do. It is those people that I have become friends with here that I trust. And we will sometimes disagree about certain games and sometimes actually help each other on how to approach the game to enjoy it better.

I have no problems with all the banter....because birds of a feather flock together. You have those that feel EA can't do any right and will moan and complain (and in their mind rightfully so as it is subjective not fact when someone thinks a game stinks) and then those who love it all....and then those who are actually moderates....like me, who first will play a game a bunch..give it a fair test drive and then determine an appropiate opinion about the game formed not on emotion, quick or rash judgement. But on what I love to do.....playing the game.

The video looks like last years game.....looks being the key word. We have no idea how it really sounds, feels or plays until we have the retail copy in our hands. I was never expecting any graphical changes...at all. How can we judge audio on a u-tube video? No way. I want to hear it through my 7.1 system on my HDTV. How can we feel how tackling is this year and the new passing system works without playing it?

We can't.

I am apprehensive....like many. I don't want a roster update. I want some tweaks and some innovation. My hope is the new passing system kicks *** and changes the game from that perspective, the tackling is improved and I can feel it like I did on 2011 and I hope the new and improved presentation package immerses my dynasty even deeper.

I won't know any of this until I play it. 44.99 is a risk worth taking.....if it does not work out it was a 15 dollar rental.

I just know this... if Madden gets a big gameplay upgrade this year and it's NOT in NCAA, there will be some disappointed people. NCAA sales will show that as most people now are just fine with waiting until Madden if they get the big upgrade. The NCAA team did say whatever was added to Madden would be added to NCAA, but who knows if they actually meant the big reveal we are supposed to hear about.
