NBA 2K12 News Post

The NBA 2K12 PC patch has finally been released, weighing in at 193 MB.

Read below for all the patch details. Thanks Mr.Wednesday!

ONLINE
  • Several matchmaking optimizations have been made in order to help users get into games quicker. This will reduce the amount of time the “Searching For Opponent…” screen is displayed for.
  • Addressed a number of network errors that would cause games to end prematurely.
  • Addressed an issue in Team-Up where certain conditions would lead to a player standing idle for prolonged periods of time.
  • Corrected a Win/Loss streak tracking issue such that the “Back to Back to Back” achievement/trophy will now unlock at the proper time.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause large-user Team-Up games to hang at halftime if all users watched the halftime show in-full.
  • Addressed an issue that would lead to a disconnect in subsequent games when one or more users modified their playbook for the current game.
  • A number of Association: Online optimizations were made to greatly minimize disconnects.
  • Additionally, general optimization improvements were made in order to improve the overall online experience.
GENERAL
  • Previously unlocked NBA’s Greatest games and ‘Gift with Purchase’ Kings/Warriors teams will now remain unlocked after playing and exiting the Association/My Player game modes.
  • Fixed an issue where the roster would become corrupt when attempting to enter the ‘Legends Showcase’ with unsaved roster changes.
  • Fixed a rare issue that would cause the game to hang when attempting to skip the pre-game presentation in Season and Playoff modes.
  • Corrected an issue where players could become duplicated after editing a Created Team.
  • “PIPPEN” dunk package has been updated so that it can be re-assigned to Pippen when switched off of him.
  • Addressed issue where Created Players are assigned Cold Zones for all shot locations. This change applies for all generated players in Association/My Player modes as well.
  • The Adidas Zig Pro Future and ZigEncore shoes should now have the correct shoe image associated with them.
GAMEPLAY
  • On-dribbler steal success rates have been tuned down.
  • Tuned accuracy of directional passing in order to more reliably pass to the intended target.
  • Improved help defense, specifically for rotations on pick-and-roll situations.
  • Defensive tuning on 3PT shots to reduce the success of contested threes.
  • Addressed an issue on drives to the basket where the help defender wouldn’t fully engage in the double team.
  • Increased the velocity of lob passes into the post so they are less vulnerable to tips and steals.
  • Reduced steal success when the defender attempts a steal from behind the ballhandler.
  • Tuned player lunges on steal attempts such that they don’t cover an unrealistic amount of ground.
  • Tuned AI passes from the wing down into the post. The AI is now smarter during this situation, specifically where the perimeter defender is sagging off the ballhandler in anticipation of this pass.
  • Corrected an issue where during online gameplay, a shot ball would ‘re-launch’ even after it had been blocked.
  • Tuned AI playcalling during late-game situations so that they initiate plays faster.
  • Fixed an issue where the CPU ballhandler would take too long to pass (or in some cases, not pass the ball at all) when running a play in My Player.
  • Addressed an issue where the user would inadvertently commit an intentional foul with a defender when attempting to contest a shot with his hands up.
  • Tuned animation selection that would cause a player to lose forward momentum when attempting a Swat Block.
  • Addressed a specific case where attempting a pass fake would cause the pass to be thrown.
  • 8-second violations will no longer be called when the ball is poked loose and enters the backcourt.
  • Training Camp: Triple Threat drill score requirements lowered in order to make it a little easier to complete the drill.
  • Legends Showcase: Fixed a hang that would occur when the AI would recover a loose ball by diving for the ball and then sitting idle with it.
  • Legends Showcase: Addressed a case where players who did not meet the requirements were able to throw a flashy pass.
MY PLAYER
  • Corrected an issue where the game would hang after winning the NBA Finals in My Player mode.
  • Trading logic has been greatly improved in this mode. In particular, your team’s GM will no longer overhaul the roster once you join the team.
  • Your team’s GM will now do a better job of acquiring one of your recommended players when he comes to you asking for potential trade targets. Be careful what you ask for!
  • Fixed an issue where both teams in a game would be using the wrong playbooks on occasion.
  • A few select season-long milestones (e.g. Shoot 85% or better from the free throw line) should now properly unlock when the prerequisite conditions are met.
  • The camera should now properly follow the action in your Signature Shoe Commercial.
THE ASSOCIATION
  • A number of trade logic improvements have been made for this experience (these apply to Association: Online as well).
  • Addressed the CPU lineup building / player role allocation such that players no longer become unnecessarily upset with the direction of their respective teams.
  • New coaching staff is now generated when you get many years into the mode. This will result in sufficiently skilled coaches available to be hired.

I haven't decided if I'm going to download the patch or not. I've been reading reviews since it was released and am still on the fence. I am getting great gameplay/sim-stats with my All-Star sliders and have also developed some really good Pro sliders for watching CPU games.

I have seen the list of fixes the patch contained, but from gameplay experience, can you guys tell me some reasons that I should download the patch?

Really the only reason I downloaded was to fix some of the nagging stuff the sliders can't fix. Trade logic, more efficient directional passing, things like that. I was otherwise having a ball with my franchise using Alby's rosters and sliders

Same deal here as far as enjoying the game before but I haven't noticed any new weird bugs since downloading the patch. Passing seems a bit quicker and more logical (just saw KLove bounce pass to a cutter from the post).

I don't know if it's just me but passing improvements seem to not carry over to existing associations. Not a huge deal to me but I know that could suck for a lot of people. Maybe someone could confirm gameplay improvements applying to existing saves.

Long time coming but meh... still enjoying myself. It'll be interesting to see how 2k approaches the game next year though since it seems that there was a ton of negative feedback coming back at them for this years game.

I started a new association too because changes didn't carry over my previous saves. The passing improvemets are huge. The movement both on D and offense is now spectacular.I'm using Albys roster now and game has reached levels of a pure 9+ out of 10.I don't get why there are so many negative reactions to this year's game.Let's hope 2k will rely on the constructive criticism of their customers and will not ruin the franchise with 2k13.Nba2k11 was great but with major flaws and Nba2k12 is surely an improvement.Build from here 2k.

I will need to try a quick game, have only played an older save since the patch.

But what actually did carry over are
  • lower shooting percentages
  • no excessive jumping forward on on-ball steal attempts
  • defensive positioning of AI teammates and opponents
It sounds strange that some changes would not apply to older saves, as long as they're not tied to roster changes.
But I will try a quick match to validate this.

The patch DOES carryover to current associations. I can attest to that!

what a joke, 2k didn't even fix the drafts in my player mode, the order of draft is still in alphabetical order, ie, 76ers will always draft first, follow by bobcats etc.

I wonder if someone might know which files are new in the patch and wasn't in the default installation.
Because I want to remove the patch (I have an online problems after installing it - it always says "There was some problem with your connection to 2K servers") but don't know which files exactly I should remove. And I don't want my game to stop working by removing some of necesary files.

Is this really the same patch as 1.04 for XBox/PS3? Generated players still have only cold zones in association, so what exactly did 2k fix at all?

Mainly just the global.iff but I think if you just remove the patched .exe and swap it with the original then that should take care of it. You won't be able to get online though.

I can say that the patch has fixed some things on gameplay, it makes the game better and more difficult... Although the pass on the fast break isnt really fixed it's kinda "better"... The problem is with trying to steal the ball. They say the fixed it, but they did it in a non-realistic way. I mean the guy I am defending dribbled me by passing through me...

Anyway, it's better than nothing!

It's a bummer that team stats are broken, otherwise I have no more troubles after the patch.

I stand corrected.

Wouldn't matter much anyway, my game won't update through Gamefly and none of the available patches work. Not that any of that matters either since I heard they really didn't fix much and all I play is My Player/Association.

At least I don't have to add in commentary when I'm playing about Enes Kanter's big black arms helping him get the blocks he gets in a game.

Seeing alot more full court passes made by the cpu for a easy fastbreak basket after the patch. Also noticing the cpu is alot more aggressive and is taking it to the basket alot more resulting in an unrealistic high Points in the Paint by them.

Fast breaks are improved for both cpu and user. You are right about cpu aggressiveness but I don't see unrealistic PiP.Try playing against different teams.Which rosters do you use?Yesterday I played 2 matches vs Heat and vs Clippers.Heat were taking the ball in the paint and driving a lot (as in real life) and Clippers had a balanced offensive approach with mid range shooting and many pick 'n' rolls.I'm using Alby's roster set.

I'm using Alby's set too with some customization of my own. The times I see the CPU make a full court pass for an easy layup/dunk is after a defensive rebound by them and then they just throw it to one of their cherry pickers who is already all the way on my end of the court and there's no way of stopping this football pass from reaching him...

I've only seen this twice after the patch but it was clearly my mistake because I ran a horrible offense before. Are you playing on pro difficulty?Do you have crash boards too high for your team?A bad offensive play can also lead to D problems.Especially plays which leave your 2 and 3 position deep in both corners in the offensive end.
