MLB 2K12 News Post

MLB Today Season Mode – For the first time ever, play along with the real-life MLB® season AS IT UNFOLDS. Take charge of your favorite team and see how you stack up against the rest of the league over the course of a six month-long season.

Dynamic Tendency System – Just as in real-life, opposing pitchers and hitters will learn your tendencies from one at-bat to the next, challenging you to mix up your approach on both sides of the plate as each game unfolds.

Improved My Player Mode – Want to be the next All-Star slugger or ace starter? All-new player types let you decide your path to the Majors™. Goals, expectations, ratings and progression are all customized by position and player type.

New Hit Distribution System - More varied and realistic hits, from line drives in the gap to slow tappers down the line. Based on the physics of the game, including pitch location & speed and swing timing & accuracy.

New Throw Meter – A revamped throwing system presents a classic risk vs. reward situation every time you make a play. Will you queue up throws before fielding the ball to save time, or take a moment to set your feet for better accuracy?

Soundtrack - Tracks handpicked by SPIN magazine, featuring The Cool Kids, Skrillex, The Joy Formidable, Grouplove, My Morning Jacket and more.

Improved AI - The game just got a little smarter, with improved CPU AI both on the field and in the dugout.

New & Improved Commentary - Over 80 hours of new commentary featuring Gary Thorne, Steve Phillips & John Kruk. For the first time, MLB Today games will feature dynamic commentary that updates AS THE GAME UNFOLDS.

I have done this every year since 2K7...I roam the boards on various websites as 2K trickles out very limited info updates on the game until release..I cant believe how many hours of my life I have lost doing this..I cant wait for March 6th..That combo pack is a great deal. I will be set with games until NCAA football comes out in late summer. Does anyone know if you can play with any classic teams. I would like to play with 86 mets and some of the powerhouse Cleveland Indians teams of the 90's?

is hitting triples every time you hit the ball in the gap still a feature? Jim Thome would like that.

It would be great if 2k had Classic Teams ala the NBA 2k Series. The closest we get is All American & All National League greats to play with in Play Now mode.

If 2k doesn't offer them this year, the good thing is the game has 2k share for the ability to have someone upload them

As a "single-season" offline guy, these three items will make me a happy camper....if they in fact turn out to be true...and don't mess anything else up.

- New Hit Distribution System - More varied and realistic
- Improved AI - The game just got a little smarter
- New & Improved Commentary - Over 80 hours of new commentary

It certainly isn't the most sexy feature list of all time. But I have also found that while I am often pumped up and intrigued by new modes/features that are advertised for sports games, I generally don't end up spending that much time with them.

Thanks Bigfnjoe..Well hopefully we can play with classic teams on the next gen systems in a few years. I would like to see and option where Albert Belle can chuck a baseball at fans head. The 2K share sounds interesting. I think this years game is gonna be pretty good..The 2K8 and 2K9 years really set this franchise back. it should get me by for 2 years as I dont update my baseball games with 2K every year anymore..

Thank you, something didn't seem right. Thanks to everyone who answered.

After last year my first thought was that 2K should just fix the niggles. Get the core elements to work right then add features later. It has a solid foundation with the best commentary, best pitching system and a really in-depth batter vs hitter showdown because of all the inside edge data. I think they are doing the right thing, when games try to please everyone they end up ruined. 2K11 was clunky but fun and all I hope for is that they take the clunky out in 12

I was just wondering- if I want to play the MLB Today Games and get roster updates, do I need an Xbox Live Gold account to do such (assuming the system is like in 2k10 and 2k11)? I know you need an internet connection, that much is given, and I have an account, but do you actually need to have gold purchased in order to be able to download these roster updates as they happen?
I don't think so....but not sure??? Roster updates used to be free, but this year with Madden 12, you needed a Gold Account for roster updates. Very annoying. Hopefully not a trend.

What does it mean when it says dynamic commentary as the game unfolds? Isn't that how it always is? Can someone elaborate please, haha?
Pretty sure they mean that as the game happens, the commentary will be influenced by it. "Albert Pujols is 1 for 3 today with a walk and a double..." I don't believe we've seen the game do that yet.

What does MLB Today do besides let me play a game on the same day in real life? Does it track my stats and have them influence the season (a bit like the NBA Live feature did a few years back?)

Yes it does. All STATS are added to the game as they happen in real life. The only time real-life stats don't effect the game are in the games you actually play.

In games you don't play, the real-life STATS are uploaded into your season

I like the live mode and the idea of dynamic commentary. However, they need - MUST - fix the glitches from 2k11. Specifically the fatigue system where a player takes a full games worth of fatigue for only pinch hitting. This drove me crazy. I just hated sitting Votto or Pujols (or anybody) and his fatigue would not recover at all if I used him as a pinch hitter. There should be a fatigue system that allows for varying levels of fatigue based on how much the player participated. Simple.

Also, the DL not calculating right was awful. You had to send a player to triple AAA and then put him on the DL to make it work right. This is just stupid.

These two issued ruined franchise mode for me in 2k11. FIX THEM - and even if you change nothing else - 2k12 will be a winner.
