Kotaku's Owen Good has posted some more details on MLB 12 The Show's Diamond Dynasty and let's us know why it's not EA's Ultimate Team.

Quote:
Cards, collections, virtual currency— when "Diamond Dynasty" appeared in a retail listing as a new mode for MLB 12 The Show, everyone thought they knew what it was: A feature that would borrow heavily from EA Sports' "Ultimate Team," which has been a cash cow for its FIFA, NHL and Madden franchises.

It would seem to make sense. EA Sports has no baseball presence, and the game is a natural for anything built on a sports card motif. Plus, it might make sense for Sony to move into this territory now, in case EA Sports returns to it after 2K's baseball license expires this year.

After talking with Sony's San Diego Studio, the makers of the widely acclaimed MLB The Show series, it sounds like all "Diamond Dynasty" has in common with "Ultimate Team," is the fact neither gives you a stick of gum when you open a fresh pack.

besides who cares how many times u see it, what does that matter?
you only see th lineup card once a game, so why improve that, right?
its just that its not something u see in a baseball game broadcast.

knight brought it up at CD last year and they were on it but it just missed the cut.
So i was surprised it was still there. dont get all show-defensive. lol
next time i'll just say how golden it is.
So something like BA .000 HR 0 RBI 0 OBP .000 - like that? Yeah, because for someone who is just out of the cyber womb (just created) there are no stats, whether MLB, MiLB, college or even little league. Or would you like to throw some fake stats in for fictional 'Marvin Singletary'?

No show defense here (more like common sense defense, if anything.) LOL, and I don't know how you got that from my short post; please point that out please. It was just a serious question, that I still pose to you... what could go there then? Nothing?

you put last years stats or Mil if it applies, spring training numbers.. [last years] which is what knight recommended to them last year.
these guys didnt drop from the sky

for DD players with NO history, how bout attributes, how many games he has left to play
plus its in there for all the real players in 10 and 11
you've never seen it?
come on man, please. lol

more like common sense? wow thats nice, so I am stupid? that's mature.
after that line, anything you say i don't need to hear from now on, especially behind a keyboard.

It's only one time that you have to see it, and it is better than having absolutely nothing. You can see the player's attributes on his cards anyways, so that knife cuts both ways. For a one time thing, it's not that big of a deal.

Besides, I don't see where he called you stupid. It's not very mature to equate being stupid with having a lack of a little common sense.

I'm not sure how to get this across "from behind a keyboard" but my heart is dripping with sorrow, really it is. /sarcasm

And again, how you took that as me calling you stupid, is beyond me. As was thinking I was 'show defending' when asking an honest question about what you would like to see in place of that info?

Basically age, weight & height is all that is known about a created player, until they actually play. And as for what is seen in an actual broadcast, I can't say that I've ever seen a players 'attributes' listed either. I have seen and heard them mention player's physical 'attributes', especially early in the season or when they are called up or traded.

So yeah, insinuate what you will about what I just said.

Anyway, I won't stray any further off-topic, but the FACTS are (in MLB 12):

- If a player has any kind of (real life) stats MiLB or MLB, they will be displayed. I mentioned that in a previous thread.

- if a player is created (using the player creator), stats will not be displayed first at-bat, even if it's a recreation of a real person. Why? Because there is no way to add them.

- after a created player has an at-bat, they then have historical stats (albeit just 1 at-bat) and they are then displayed from that point on. No more age, weight and height.

Played Madden card game a few times and it was meh at best. Just seeing the details of the mode and customization options in The Shows DD And I think I'll be playing it a long time.
They both have cards though......So that parts similar.

Yup. They never show height/weight in real life.

Nishiokia's first MLB AB on opening day last season. Didn't really take me long to find either, just went to the rookie tracker and found players who had no games played prior to last year. Only took 2 or 3 of them to find one.

Should existing players have last year/minor league stats? Perhaps. But to say that they never show it on TV is false.

What does it matter how great the mode is if the online performance is so poor you can't take your team online to compete with it.

Well....

This was OBVIOUSLY photoshopped. Besides, he's not a DD player.

Is there going to be a blog or video explaining this mode more in depth? Something to explain it more detailed?

It's been said that a blog post by Nick@SCEA should be coming some time soon.

Hopefully a pitching rotation mangement will be in effect. Currently in online games, you can use your ace pitcher every game.

It would even be nice if the online mode also had a pitching rotation requirement.

Pitchers have energy so you just can't keep throwing them out there every game like you can in the regular online world.

Okay... a potentially bad/dumb question about this game mode...

With the team you build/make, would you actually play the games? As in, would you be able to use the team that is your cards/development in a play now, online, or on-going franchise setting? Or is it kind of just to look at and develop but not play?

Thanks a lot, fellas.

Yes, you actually play... but I think you can only play within the "universe" of Diamond Dynasty. I don't think you can use your DD team in other modes.

So you basically "play" within a sort of Franchise mode against the CPU?

I think DD itself is a mode (like franchise), and your team is limited within that mode. You can either play against a CPU team (which is one of the MLB teams I believe), or some other online player's DD team in an online setting.

Ah, so you wouldn't be playing like a set 162 game season or anything? Just earning points on play nows?

Thanks for your help.
