Kotaku's Owen Good has posted some more details on MLB 12 The Show's Diamond Dynasty and let's us know why it's not EA's Ultimate Team.

Quote:
Cards, collections, virtual currency— when "Diamond Dynasty" appeared in a retail listing as a new mode for MLB 12 The Show, everyone thought they knew what it was: A feature that would borrow heavily from EA Sports' "Ultimate Team," which has been a cash cow for its FIFA, NHL and Madden franchises.

It would seem to make sense. EA Sports has no baseball presence, and the game is a natural for anything built on a sports card motif. Plus, it might make sense for Sony to move into this territory now, in case EA Sports returns to it after 2K's baseball license expires this year.

After talking with Sony's San Diego Studio, the makers of the widely acclaimed MLB The Show series, it sounds like all "Diamond Dynasty" has in common with "Ultimate Team," is the fact neither gives you a stick of gum when you open a fresh pack.

An extremely deep customization engine will allow you to give your team unique uniforms, logos, and dugout apparel like warmup jackets

One drawback Madden Ultimate Team had when it first came out in Madden 10 was that it was almost impossible to keep a team intact so you couldn't really mold your team into the type of team you wanted to play with. In the current Madden Ultimate Team (MUT12) , they made it so any player is affordable. You can basically use any QB, HB, WR you want without affecting your budget.

I'm hopeful DD will still allow us to build a specific type of team (i.e. small ball, bronx bombers, all speed, or all defensive team) and still be able to keep that team intact.

Wasn't interested in this, when first news hit, however now, this sounds very fun. Definitely something to do besides always playing franchise

NEEEEERRRRRRRRRDS!! I thought that was some kind of weird player photo at first or something. Nice.

So 431 layers for something like that....we're gonna have some truly amazing creations if people actually use the entire capacity.

What constitutes "overtraining"? Too much training in a small amount of time (meaning that you're supposed to spread it out over the course of several games)?

I have never purchased the show, but I admit that this game is getting my money. Im not really into the play to move up the leaderboard. It would be cool to play online tounaments with these teams.

What would you rather see? You only have to suffer through it for 1 at-bat per player.

A "similar" mode to ultimate team that doesn't force me to pay money to be successful? SIGN ME UP Sounds great, at least worth a very very close look. I have never been an online-player in baseball/show-games, but you can play against the CPU as well. Either DD or RTTS will have to fill up the time until the full rosters are leaked.

um lets see, baseball stats?
yea thats it

besides who cares how many times u see it, what does that matter?
you only see th lineup card once a game, so why improve that, right?
its just that its not something u see in a baseball game broadcast.

knight brought it up at CD last year and they were on it but it just missed the cut.
So i was surprised it was still there. dont get all show-defensive. lol
next time i'll just say how golden it is.

With all due respect, it's silly how much effort is being put forth to say this is NOT another EA Ultimte Team type mode. Of course there are differences and it's not exactly a copy. I'm sure there are subtle nuances and likely many things different that make it better than those types of modes, but to act as if it doesn't borrow HEAVILY on the concepts of those modes is ridiculous.

I'm looking forward to Diamond Dynasty, but I don't think it's a BAD thing if it actually is a little bit like Ultimate Team modes... Those are good modes as well. At any rate, I'm looking forward to it.
