Try a different slider set. I'm using DJ's and get 2-3 penalties a game for each side.
Thats just it....Im burnt out from tweaking this game. I have no energy to start trying new sliders and to tweak them to my liking just to play with this update only to find that I hate it in the end anyway. I have good sliders that I have been using with my season with no update installed and my games have been great so I'm going to stick with that. This update is a joke for all intensive purposes and shows EA will only cater to the casual hockey gamer. After 4 games with it here is how things played out Game #1 - Froze on load up Game #2 - Froze 5 minutes in and no PPs for either side....was only 5 minutes though Game #3 - 1 PP for me 1 PP for CPU Game #4 - 0 PP for me 0 PP for CPU
Impressions are as follows; The Good - Puck is looser and CPU teamates play the puck after tying up on face off. Numbers on helmets nice touch, but you only see them during cut scenes not a big deal to me. The Bad - Still no penalty fix....even if some of you are getting 2-3 a game its way to low over the course of a season. Way too many breakaways...in the 2 games I managed to play I had 3 breakaways in one and 5 in another. I noticed that I was not getting called for the goalie interference and even scored a goal after a CPU teamate bowled the goalie over. CPU guys hit and tried to start fights with my goalie everytime he covered the puck.
The bad makes the game seem so arcade like that it makes the few little good things insignificant. I'm sorry if I am in the minority here, but EA took a long time for this update and outside of the Dive issue on-line, clearly did not listen to the community in this or any other forum when they developed the patch. Consider this update uninstalled.
I played a game in my Be a GM and got 3 PP and took 2 penalties in the game.
He's asking if it's any different from Play Now games to Be A GM games. Some people seem to think there's a difference between the two. Not sure if it's true or not, but to me personally it sounds like a placebo effect.

I'm sure there is a difference between them. Generally what I've noticed is when I start a GM the game feels different from Play Now, even with the same sliders. It was the same thing with the 2K series. There could also be a difference as far as penalties go, because the AI may have a higher importance factor programmed in, thus leading to more desperate play in situations and more penalties. In other words I'm pretty sure the AI behaves differently in GM than in Play Now.

sorry if my question confused you. yea i was asking if you tried it in BaGM. with the newest roster of mattg coming into horizon, i might try NHL 12 again. if i may ask, if you dont mind, please post here how you find this new tuner in your BaGM. thanks in advance.
i will definitely remember the attitude of EA towards its consumer when they "motivate" (or should i say b.s us) in buying NHL 13.
Well I updated and played with the new tuner and it was fine for the first two games! I only play BAGM and every time my games froze, the screen would zoom to the top of the screen. Today, during my third game, it froze while i was skating up the ice on a 2-on-1. Not impressed, thought the patch would fix the freezing!! And to note, my games have always froze while I'm winning, which is even more irritating. I lost my previous game in OT tho and never saved my season so I guess I get to play that game over again

Just played my second Be a GM with the new update. I committed 4 penalties and the other team committed 2.
That's more penalties than I would see in 4 or 5 games, pre-patch.
Very happy!
Aside, is the freezing a PS3 issue, or is it on the 360 as well? I asked this in another thread but I don't think it got answered. This game has never frozen for me, not once. And I've put quite a bit of time into it.
Played tonight's Wings v Stars game in my current Season and I did notice the goalies seemed different. Rebounds seemed better. The puck played slightly looser. Penalties seemed exactly the same as before though, I received 3 pretty lame penalties, one being goalie interference and the computer received no penalties except for a penalty shot which I scored on in the second period. All penalties except for the penalty shot came in the third period. I won 6-3 with an EN shorthanded. I thought my computer teammates seemed to jump into plays a little more. Had a nice one-timer where my pc teammate jumped into the play which doesn't seem to happen enough for me to notice until now. Over all the game played very slightly better, still disappointed in the penalties. And the game settings STILL don't save, such as commentary volume and puck size/shadow. But at least I have numbers on my helmet that I really can't see during gameplay anyways.
Yeah, I am still getting more penalties per game finally... Games 4 and 5 saw me getting 2 PP's in my 4th game post patch and 6 PP's in my 5th game, while I took 3 and 2 respectively... Not sure why some are still not getting the penalties called other than to say try your own slider settings instead of someone's elses... I have used several of the "top" sliders posted by some and had no luck, since the patch I am using tuner 1.0, all-star, 10 minute periods, game speed 2 clicks (all from zero), Penalties maxed, cpu penalties maxed, cpu teammate penalties maxed, reception ease 0, passing 1 manual off, aggression 5 for both hmn and cpu, stick checking 5 for both, hitting power 2, goalie passing 0, goalie cover maxed, goalie vision 2 for both... (I have seen a lot more hooking and tripping penalties now)
I have received 21 PP's in 5 games going 7 for 21 and have been on the PK 12 times with a PK of 1 for 12...
Not that this matters but I play authentic puck size and shadow... With the Red Wings through 5 games I am 4-0-1 scoring 23 goals and giving up 12... Just all around feels like a better game post patch finally, or maybe since I stopped relying on other people's sliders, but I do thank them for their efforts...
I've seen little to no change at all concerning penalties. Last game in my BeAGM I had three while the CPU had zero. Luckily for me, since I switched to mkharsh's sliders (difficulty level is pro), I've seen many more penalties than I did while playing on All-Star. Plus, it's a greater challenge.
Overall, I don't see anything different than from what I was playing pre-patch. Maybe that has to do with not using the latest tuner set, but these sliders are giving me a good amount of penalties now - on both sides - and a good challenge. I would rather have that then start all over with a new patch trying to learn what's fixed and what is still or newly broken.
Lastly, my game still freezes when I load up my BeAGM sometimes (PS3). Glad they decided that wasn't important enough to fix...

I did have one freeze right after I played post patch but have now played 6 without a freeze, but my custom music again mysteriously disappeared in my 6th game like it did during my 3rd game... Oh but this playing a PS3, not sure about the Xbox guys...
Maybe cause I don't have high expectations for the game, BUT I think the game is a lot of fun to play.
This is key to enjoying sports games in general these days. As long as you're not looking for more realism than fun, then the game is for you. As soon as you start disecting the game, as many do (myself included), you take the enjoyment right out of it. The game can be alot of fun, as long as you play it without thinking.
