EA SPORTS REVEALS TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 13 STANDARD AND COLLECTOR’S EDITION COVER ART

Collector’s Edition Features Masters Tournament’s Iconic Green Jacket; Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy Join Tiger Woods on Standard Edition Cover

November 30, 2011 – EA SPORTS™ revealed today cover art for both the standard and collector’s editions of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 13 with artwork that showcases the great golfers of today while also commemorating the Masters Tournament’s historic legacy. The standard edition of the game features superstar golfers Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy alongside Tiger Woods in the US and European editions, respectively, while cover art for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13: The Masters Collector’s Edition features the famed Green Jacket.

“The dream of winning a Green Jacket has inspired golfers for many years, so we are very proud to provide our fans the only game that allows you to compete in the Masters and attempt to win golf’s ultimate prize,” EA SPORTS Marketing Director Craig Evans said. “In addition, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy are two of the most exciting young golfers in the game today and we’re thrilled to put them alongside Tiger Woods on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13.”

Since first being awarded to Sam Snead in 1949, the Green Jacket has become one of the most revered prizes in all of sports. The collector’s edition cover also includes an image of the Calamity Jane putter made famous by legendary amateur golfer and Tournament co-Founder Bobby Jones.

Headlining the in-game features of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13: The Masters Collector’s Edition is a new Green Jacket presentation ceremony that was developed for winners of the Masters. This comes in addition to every course and feature available in the standard edition, five additional golf courses, Augusta National’s Par 3 course and world-class Tournament Practice Facility, and much more.

In October, for the first time in franchise history, EA SPORTS provided fans the opportunity to choose who will join Tiger Woods on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13. Similar to previous EA SPORTS cover athlete votes for Madden NFL and NCAA Football, community reaction to the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 Match Play cover vote was overwhelmingly positive as more than 250,000 votes were cast from over 35 countries during a three-week period that saw debates amongst golf enthusiasts and campaigning by the world’s top golfers through their personal social media channels.

On the heels of last year’s successful integration of the Masters into Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, which Kotaku recently named its 2011 Sports Game of the Year, Augusta National Golf Club is back in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 giving fans another chance to play one of the most celebrated courses in all of golf. The game will also feature all-new experiences around Tiger Woods’ memorable golf accomplishments throughout his lifetime and will be the first controller-free, voice-enabled and body tracking sports simulation game to support the Kinect™ motion control system for the Xbox 360® videogame system from Microsoft.

Over the past two decades, EA SPORTS has introduced a series of immersive and authentic golf experiences across a variety of game platforms that has helped expand the popularity of the sport amongst fans. The EA SPORTS golf product portfolio includes the award-winning Tiger Woods PGA TOUR franchise, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online and EA SPORTS PGA TOUR® Golf Challenge for Facebook.

Agreed. The green jacket really should have been a part of TW 12, now it seems even for TW 13 they're only offering it as a 'bonus' w/ the Collector's Edition and not a standard part of the game. I know it's just a small detail relatively speaking, but it still seems odd that they wouldn't want that as a standard part of the game. It would be like having the Super Bowl trophy presentation only available in Special Editions of Madden (I don't wanna give EA any ideas lol)

He was one of the options for the cover vote, so I'm guessing he's in.

Hope there are more features announced than just a jacket ceremony.

This game could be so awesome if they put forth the effort.

So you think the CE only adds the Green Jacket ceremony? Sorry, but the CE adds 5 courses to the standard game so I dont know how you can call this a "DLC money-grabbing philosophy".......

This is just the cover art announcement. I expect there will be a few more features to talk about when they are set to announce them.

My biggest gripe about this game is how many times do I have to buy the same add on courses.

I upgraded last year do to the masters getting in after all these years.

I can afford to download this stuff it's just the principle of the deal....when we had Links on the PC 10 years ago every time MS put out a new version my old course packs transferred to the updated game.

It wont happen but I believe that the premium edition of the game should come with all the dlc courses included.

Was there not talk before the ea season ticket deal came out that you might get some dlc perks along with that program ?

Last year the EA site stated they went on vacation for a few weeks the day after the game came out. I know games are alot of work but after launch you better be at work for a few weeks just in case there's a major bug or server issues (MW3 and WWE 12 is a good example of server problems after launch). You just don't take off unless you don't give a **** about problems. That shows how much they care about the customers.

And basic gameplay improvements like getting rid of rubberband AI and implementing meterless putting took years to finally get in the game. People have been bitching for years about lack of playoff holes and cartoonish pin placements and they ignore it or figure it's more trouble than it's worth. I'll give 10 to 1 odds that neither of those issues have been fixed for TW13 but hey we get a green jacket ceremony if you win the Masters, (BTW a tie is good enough ) and pay a little extra.
Lazy? Um, no. Developing a title with a limited budget (compared to other sports games like Madden/FIFA and FPS shooters), yes.

I have spoken to one of the individuals who attended the TW13 Community Day back in Sept/Oct and he told me that the Caddy issue and pin placements were receiving an overhaul mainly due to the all new swing mechanic they are introducing to TW13. Playoffs were also mentioned by the TW 13 CD members, but I have not received any feedback on this yet. Like you though, I will wait to see what they have done with my own eyes when I visit Tiburon a couple of months before the game is finished.

Seems like a cop out IMO. Look a Top Spin 4, a game with likely even less of a budget that TW has, and which likely sold a lot less, but still managed to put out multiple updates to gameplay after it's release, even as recently as September. Compared to this, TW 12's post release support was pretty lackluster IMO.

I agree with your last statement.

However, unless you know firsthand what budget and resource limitations TW and TopSpin Devs were under, all you are doing is speculating and we can do that all day long and never come to a FACTUAL conclusion.

TW 11 was awesomesauce. TW 12 was my biggest sports game disappointment of the year. I have no idea what to expect from TW 13.

Purple on the box! Woohoo!
And yet, TW12 won a couple of Sports game of the year awards....Kotaku comes to mind for one....go figure. I agree with you on the Caddy and TruAim though.

Well, this eliminates Amazon.com as a potential pre-order option for me! This type of ploy is lost on guys like you and me, but they're obviously pandering to a market they think they can reach with this. I'd love to have at least 15 solid pros so that EA Sports would have the option of including at least a 16 player, match play tournament in Career mode play. That would easily be the main attraction of a Career mode season, at least the way you're playing against an off-camera, spread-sheet field now.

I buy this game every year in hopes it will be that "serious" golf sim you're talking about, but it never measures up IMO. Are the devs in contact with the community? I don't really follow the development of this series.

From what I'm gathering from a few guys who've been invited in to test the new game, there's an entirely new swing mechanic for the '13 edition, and it is reportedly more conducive to offering a better simulation experience. They can't go into detail right now, but I'm sure details on this will be parcelled out over the next few months.

One of the guys saying this is a sim-minded gamer and I can tell from his enthusiasm that something special is going on with this. I'm optimistic that at least the thumbstick control swing will be more satisfying and more reliant on tempo. OTOH, I'm still quite pessimistic about the Kinect implementation for '13. I'm just not sure that the limited bandwidth of current Kinect communication via USB is adequate for what's needed to make it believable with a real golf simulation.

Totally agree with this! The chipping feels broken in this game and it really makes the game take a hit. I wind up playing pitch shots where I'd ordinarily play a chip shot a lot of times. I don't dare try to play an uphill chip shot in Tiger 06 through 12 because no matter what club you try to play the chip shot with, you're going to scuff it and it's not going to deliver the result one would expect from a chip shot. Even downhill chip shots behave like you're in another universe.

If the chip shots have a believable trajectory in Tiger 13, it will be a good barometer for how realistic a simulation it will play. This also applies to fairway wood trajectory. I still can't believe that I can hit a 1-iron with a higher trajectory than a 5-wood in this game!?

And they better offer full customization of DLC courses for your career mode so I can use any course for any tourney. That has to be offered at the very least for me to buy it (well that and playoff holes and realistic pin placements). Last year was a joke where you could only use a DLC course twice in a 10 year career.
Agreed again... they do need to figure out a way to let customers get more mileage out of their DLC purchases in career mode. However, I find the career mode play so uncompelling that I'm still trying to finish my first season. It just feels like I'm playing against a spreadsheet on a golf course in which I'm the only one playing. I want to see other golfers in action ahead of and behind me, and have the *option* to play with AI golfers (skipping and fast-forwarding their shots at my demand).
