yes they are both story modes RTW is just certain wrestlers and both give u different things to do if u chose who u talk to etc will change the story line.also once u chose what to do it will unlock something like a belt, arena etc... unless u buy the axxcess package then that unlocks everything without having to play neither.

What do you mean by this? What can be controlled?

If you've played the older SmackDown games, it's essentially those games' season modes, except it's never ending and you have complete control over pretty much everything. Whether a guy is a heel or a face, who his allies and enemies are, who has what belts, which brand wrestlers are on, etc, etc, etc.

There is also a massive amount of customization in the game and in Universe mode. You can edit Raw and SmackDown into any other brand/show you want. Be it WCW, TNA, ECW, whatever. You can add created wrestlers whenever and wherever you see fit.

It's essentially a wrestling fan's (or former wrestling fan's) dream mode. Not to say it doesn't have it's share of issues, but they're pretty minor all things considered.

Also, you could probably just search WWE 12 Universe Mode on Youtube and get video evidence of what it's like for yourself.

Damn Idk if I should get this game... I use to watch WWE when I was younger but I haven't watched it in forever and I've read about "having a imagination" when playing WWE Universe, I don't think I would have that because I don't really follow WWE any more... What to do... What to do?

Does WWE Universe follow any sort of story line or something? And I haven't played any WWE or SvR game before... If that matters.

It's all based on who's rivals and allies. They change over time based on thing like interferences (which you can interfere in any match.)

I'm setting up a feud between DX and Awesome Truth, so I am controlling the Miz and do a run in, on R-Truth/Sean Michaels. Anyways I help beat him up, Truth goes for the pin, so as I wake the ref the game glitches and Michaels is pinning truth, which "broke" their alliance.

Had to edit them back to being in good standing after the fight.

I have Cena and R-Truth as heated rivals, yet the UNIVERSE GM keeps putting them as a tag-team in matches??

Alright, keep in mind that I haven't played Smackdown since 09. Had 10 for a hot second but didn't get into it. What I wanna know is why does everyone hate RTWM so much? Me, I'm having a ball with it. Still progressing through the villian storyline. After playing the trash that was 09's RTWM, 12 is like a whole new game IMO. Why does everyone hate it so much?

I would strongly recommend renting this before buying. I've already traded the game in, as the game just doesn't have the depth you need for a lasting single-player experience. Once you get the control scheme down, it's unlikely you'll lose a match, even on the highest difficulty.

Universe Mode is fun at first, but there's still a lot of wonky booking going on, forcing you to edit a lot of the cards, and even then, the feuds don't carry over.

It just annoys me when I spend fifteen minutes beating the crap out of someone, just to go into a cut scene where I'm getting whooped on.

Its def worth a rent and if you like it, I bet you could score it for $30.

Everything DJ said was true also.

Gameplay is fun, but it is also chopped down by glitches and "hunh?" moments.

RTWM is god awful.. It's backstage brawl after backstage brawl. Every cutscene after a fight is predictable when you get the triangle/y icon. They reverse it, you get banged on... rinse and repeat. I'm only doing it for unlockables right now.

After a couple weeks with the game, I feel like I have a nice understanding of what I like about the game, and what I dont. Here are some impressions.

Pros:
  • Presentation isn't bad at all. Entrances are really well done, fans look pretty good, commentary is just cheesy enough to provoke some laughs yet have you believing its really Cole and Lawler.
  • Controls are fluid, and fairly innovative. Definitely preferable to years past IMO.
  • Universe mode is deep enough to give you hours of enjoyment. The custimization is what really shines. Its a lot of fun creating a character of your own, and seeing his rise to the top (or maybe fall to the bottom). Feuds, tag teams, and battles for the belts are awesome. Commentary isn't bad for the mode either, as they aren't shy to bring up feuds and small tidbits about the match.
  • Road to Wrestlemania isn't as terrible as the reputation its received. I guess I'll lable this as a pro.
  • The game is challenging enough to push you. For anyone who has played this series in the past, this is perhaps the biggest plus of all.
  • WWE still holds the title for best customization. Character creation, Create an Arena (new), Create an Entrance, and Create a Finisher are all still addictive and time consuming.

Cons:
  • Gameplay still isn't as fluid as one might hope. The CPU is often hesitant, and gives the User an unfair and unwanted advantage.
  • Universe mode leaves a lot to be desired. Which isn't to say its bad, because it actually is pretty cool, but theres a lot of stuff that keep it from being the great game mode it has the potential of being. Cutscenes eventually repeat themselves, no character voiceovers take away from the environment, CPU books bizarre matches that often make no sense, etc.
  • The CPU rarely uses its enviornment well. Even in a tables match, its rare to see a CPU do anything to utilize the tables.
  • You'll see some cool stuff happen, but I'd argue you don't see it enough. For example, you'll never see a chokeslam get reversed seemlessly into an RKO. You'll never see a match in the Elimination Chamber where the player finishes someone from the top of the cell. There just aren't a whole lot of "Wow!" moments.

Overall, I'd give it a 6.5/10. Highly enjoyable if you play the game the right way, and utilize Universe well. Don't expect anything groundbreaking, but definitely a step in the right direction for the series.

Because of my 50 online CAWs, my WWE 12 is also TNA/iMPACT 12, WWE 92 and WWE 2002...

My Universe incorporates all of these wonderful elements, including the rings, themes I incorporated to match each CAW...

the only issue? Not beging able to slow down enough to emulate the TV wrestling world due to ADDICTION. The game is that much fun. Yes, there's bugs/glitches, some U problems like run-ins by unused wrestlers, you pretty much have to make your own cards as they go b/c the CPU will almost always use jobbers instead of your CAWs...etc...but it's all worth it in the end.

I can't seem to kick out of pins correctly 80% of the time, and that's probably my only glaring issue. The game is just flat-out FUN.

8.5/10 easily.

Didn't know where to post this, but I was curious as to why they gave Big Show the Hardcore belt. I went through the title history, and he's the last active WWE wrestler to hold it. Bad thing is, he hasn't had it since July of 2002. Just shows how little that title came to mean.

this looks awesome. I'm going to get it for x360 soon (hopefully)
