not really digging it as it stands right now. The possession numbers are way too lopsided in favor of the cpu with tactical defending. Might just be me that needs to adjust to it or the they made the AI more difficult this year. I'll wait to make a final judgement when the early release version comes out on the EA Season Ticket and I can mess with the sliders.
Played a buncha games....3 mins halves is NOT ENOUGH. You can "Rematch" right away tho, which is good. I played all the games at the default difficulty with "slow" settings.
The new Tactical defending takes some getting used to, and even after all the games I'm still either learning, or making terrible mistakes. Haven't made up my mind as to whether it's good or bad....right now it's just different. But it's better than what defending used to be in previous games. I just can't get used to the different buttons on defense.
The CPU seems to be able to dribble almost at will which makes the defending even more difficult at times. Your AI teammates do a decent job of containing even without you telling them to with the R1 button. But they don't press very hard, and they rarely "step up" to intercept a pass, even when they are in position to do so. As with FIFA games of past, your AI teammates are often guilty of ball watching and simply don't play as intelligently as the CPU does. Sorry, but I just can't control all 11 players, even if the switching mechanism worked perfectly, which it doesn't.
Passing seems more difficult to me, and not as easy to 1-2 yourself up the field. But lobbed passes are still too accurate, even tho I felt thru passes weren't, even with the assisted setting. There needs to be a "semi-assisted" setting for lobs. But I also did have the CPU make bad passes here and there, which is great news, because they dribble perfectly and never make a bad move. They also pull off tricks here and there with the better players which is cool, but frustrating as it's difficult enough right now to even tackle the ball.
Overall, pretty good and seems like a step forward from previous years efforts.
After playing some more, this game is just TOO DAMN FAST! Even on slow. 3 min halfs don't help I'm sure, but it's still too fast and the AI just attacks, attacks, attacks without abandon and has perfect passing, which makes things even harder on D. I just can't get into the new D controls. I'm sure this will still be fun to play w/ friends, but I'm gonna be in wait and see mode and see if the guys here can come up w/ some sliders to balance things out.
My rig runs it perfectly...When it's recording it drops to 50fps...
FRAPS only lags, FIFA, NBA 2k series, and Need for Speed Shift 1 and 2...
All other games I play, record full 60fps..and no lag...you can check the 200plus on my YT Channel..
Shadows, it's not a matter of your rig, but for fraps pertaining to some games you have to at least drop the resolution, and/or the AA/AF settings for your vid card.
To me it's always safe to just drop the resolution a bit.
I've seen many of your videos, and they are good quality - but some are quite choppy. Hursty had this issue as well till he changed up resolutions with fraps.
Of course, if FRAPS continues to give you issues - download bandicam, it's the same except you can choose your export filetype, and apparently is getting better reviews than FRAPS.
Sorry for getting off topic - just thought I'd say something because you post videos quite a bit, Shadows - and they are always awesome, just thought I'd help.
The game looks beautiful & the new defensive controls add another layer to the already impressive gameplay.
Is it a must buy? I'm 50/50. It feels better than FIFA 11 but not by a whole bunch. How much EA have done to Game Modes will likely be the determining factor as to whether it is worth paying for the new game.

The first few games I experienced that the CPU had lots of possession and more shots on goal that I did, but after I got the hang of tactical defending and the new ball control I've had games where I had 57-58% possession - especially when using Barcelona.
I've had a harder time scoring and let in more goals than I normally have in FIFA 11, but it's all for the better IMO.
When they said they were going to make defense more difficult they weren't kidding. Played about 15 games tonight and won 1 and the funny thing is I didn't feel cheated at all.
I downloaded this and PES tonight and I must say I enjoyed FIFA a whole lot more.
Did see one neat "little thing" - during the run of play made a tackle on the CPU and the player went down and stayed down. He got up a bit and limped around but then sat back down. The ref stopped play and the player went to the sideline. Play resumed via a dropball and the CPU played a long ball to my keeper to give me possession back.

Pretty cool.
That is awesome.

Yep, it does look markedly improved to me too.
I've only played as Dortmund, but from my experience so far my keeper doesn't keep ANYTHING out. Even shots from outside the box are getting by him with no problem.
