The improved AI is also felt on defense. Dumping the ball to Patrick Ewing would cause the opposing team to send help from different spots on the floor, but the AI never over-committed, opting to fake the double-team attempt and go back to their man. This realistic defensive tactic made it difficult to know when to pass or continue to post up.
Defensive rotations have also undergone an overhaul. The AI does a better job of disguising where they will bring help, creating more unpredictable defensive sets. The AI also defends passes better, more eager to jump passing lanes or tip a pass to create a fast-break opportunity.
- Do you know what difficulty level and sliders were at use ?
- Did you played against poor defensive teams and if so, was there any difference in how their rotation or defensive schemes or AI were, compared to good defensive teams ?
P.S:
Thanks to both, Pared & DaCzar ! ... and obviously to you too jr !
so wait, hop step and spin dribbling moves have been moved to the shot stick? or are you just talking about the hop step and spin moves they had in there last yr on the RS that you COULD do with Y and B you HAVE to do with the RS now?
another question... i was under the impression that Y was used for turning your back/facing up and you would push the LS towards the basket to back down, is that not right?
The homescreen menu is the same but they tweaked the team selection menu visually. Can't really describe it because I don't totally remember it but it did look a little different. Czar, please correct me if any of the info you see is wrong. I'm trying to remember this and I don't want to give the community incorrect info. Thanks.

You got it.. all quality information your putting out man. We all appreciate it.
Some of this stuff is tuff because depending on the build and where you saw the game we may not have seen the same screens LOL there is a new splash screen that allows you to get to different area's of the game. But the older menus, if you use them, are the same.

LOL just wait for the insight or if another site talks more about the control then I can tell you more. Otherwise the insight will make it all make sense for you. Just know you have more distinct control than you had last year. It is a much better system.
you press Y anytime anywhere to turn your back and your then move into the defender with the LS as you said. The postup is independent of the defense.
here's my question: how was the A.I. when you played them, did it feel like you were really playing that team, like were the Bulls playing like the Bulls ?
They did feel authentic. When I played against the Shaq and Penny Magic, they would force feed Shaq. One time Penny passed it to Shaq so i hedged down to help with Derek Harper. When I got too close to Shaq he passed it back to Penny, who I tried to get back to defend. Penny seemed like he waited for me to close out then drove right to the baseline for a onehanded dunk.
Another time they passed it to Shaq and i doubled off Nick Anderson. Shaq picked up the double and kicked it out to Anderson for the three. This was my first game on 2k12 and i was down 13-4. I asked what level this was in and they told me pro. I was so embarrassed.
When I played against Showtime they gave me a healthy dose of Magic and Kareem. Magic backed down some and had his patented floaters in the late.
The game knows where it wants to attack and will punish you for your choices. Like I said before, the Showtime perimeter players were backing down against Monta and Steph because they had the size mismatch.
D-Rose was aggressive in that fastbrakes i described before. Rob said last year the Ai would see if it had a numbers advantage on breaks and would attack only in those instances. This year, the Ai will attack if its player has the talent mismatch on the break. I saw that happen twice. It was awesome. Man I want to play some more. Sorry for that last line, but the game is really polished this year and will keep you guessing.
you see...i got my hype in check...even watching the trailer never got me that hyped...but..but reading how smart the AI is on PRO got me wanting to play now...damn...

It was on pro with no slider adjustments. I only played one quarter per game because I wanted to play with as many teams as possible. I got abused my first game but got better as time passed.
I played mostly legends games so the defense was pretty tough for the most part. I figure it will adjust depending on the team but I can't say that definitively.

The hop step, spin move i was told are now on the right stick. I know you can break out of animations easier this year so maybe it will be push the stick one way to initiate the hop step then another way for a step through move or pump fake. I'm not sure about this last part though.
The Y button will initiate a back down move. You can also hold the Y button on the perimeter and use it to defend your dribble, and like Magic used to. But once you press Y, your player will turn his back.

Sorry man. I told Rob that this preview has spoiled the next month for me. It's tough going back to 2k11 now. I still love that game but you guys will notice a difference.

Jr does 2k11 seem unfun to you now ? It bores me to tears when I can even manage to put it in. I wonder if others who played 2k12 more than a qtr have similar feelings on 2k11. 2k12 was just so dam fun to play to me.
awesome info jr2424. this is me just being a homer, but did you see any signature animations for penny hardaway?
That's the one thing I really wanted to do - play with that Magic squad. But you have to unlock them so i had to play with the Knicks (no disrespect knick fans i just love Penny). That one dunk i described when he went baseline reminded me of how hard he would finish at the rim. That one-handed dunk that he would use and throw down with power. It looked like that though I know I'm not doing a good job describing it. I think he also had that hesitation dribble that he was known for. I'm pretty sure when I closed out on him he used that move to make me commit even more because I thought he was gonna shoot. But he blew by me old school Penny style. That's the team I want to run with. Hope that helped a little.

You are right. Like I said before and I know you know this Czar, all the little things that this community loves make this game a true leap from last year.

This is exactly what i want... the challenge, and not the predictability
Love the different scenarios that Shaq took in line with his teammates as well. Looks like Penny got you for panicking lol
Great writeup by the way, been meaning to tell you
I mean this in the nicest way possible...you guys suck..that is all
I couldn't agree with you more. I would feel the same way. But think of it like this, I got to play it for like an hour then they took it from me. That's almost and i stress almost worse than not playing it at all. Now I'm stuck with just memories for another month.

Penny always has me panicking. Loved that dude. Thanks 23. Really means a lot coming from this community. I was writing this with you guys in mind. I had hoped you guys would like it.
