Madden 12 News Post

In many ways, Madden NFL Football is the most anticipated, discussed and debated game in our genre each and every year.

The lead up to Madden NFL 12 has brought a new wave of optimism for the series, as many issues fans have had with the series were promised to be fixed, tuned or tweaked. In many ways, the Madden team has accomplished their goals of moving the series forward. Unfortunately, those expecting a return to greatness for the series are going to be disappointed.

Pretty good review but I would bump the rating up to a 8.0.

Looks like I will be waiting for a price drop. Thanks for the review man and great job at describing Madden for what it really is, and that's average at best.

We don't score games like college papers. We use a full 10 point scale. Read the scoring rubric listed at the top of the page. 7.5 doesn't mean the game is the equivalent to a C. Been trying to stress that with the links at the front of reviews for awhile

I think its a good review for right out the box review, maybe post patch reviews for Madden and most sports games should now be included-- I def. think I'll wait to purchase after the patches

I think OS should put the word "good" in the big circle at the top of the review to help people with the scoring system.

You have "good" at the bottom of the page, but not everyone is going to make it down to the bottom of the page.

Already talking about doing just this....probably something we'll work on getting in the coming month or so.

Fair review based on my few days of playing the Season Ticket version.

That's why Metacritic can sometimes be so confusing with the grades and stars transferring into numbers where it really doesn't translate. (But we're not on Metacritic, so not really something we have to worry about!)

Fair score, this game is a really LAZY release in almost every area. EA needs some football competition.

Good review, I don't agree with it though. I think this is the best football game I've ever played, hands down.

Post patch reviews would be an awful idea, in my opinion. You might have a different opinion of the game after a patch, but you have to judge and review the product that's being sold off the shelves.

On-topic: Nice review. Seems to be a little on the generous side with a 7.5 as I had expected less after reading 6 paragraphs of pointing out flaws in basically all elements of the gameplay, yet stating it's fun and balanced. From my time with the demo, I'm experiencing a lot more frustration than fun.

What about DPP? I don't know if you elaborated on it in any part of the review. For me, this is a good feature with great potential that they should get more credit for. I agree about the cutting corners, but don't forget NFL 2k5, despite being more animation sound than Madden, had its weird things too, which is why I made the comparison that I did. I will give them more credit for franchise mode, yet I am awfully (if not more than you are) disappointed by Superstar and Online Franchise, as well as lack of "NFL Today" type of statistical integration.

Read both the Gameplay and Franchise review linked at the top. I touched on it enough there that I didn't feel the need to really elaborate on it again

so in all honesty, would you consider playing 11 over 12?

Good review looks like im just gonna be renting it from gamefly till the price drops to about $40 and get it used.

Definitely not. As I said in the review, 12 is a clear step forward for the series...it's just not a great game still because of all the nagging issues. Of course, I don't pay for most of my games (OS does) so that's a bit of a different story.

If I owned 11 and had to pay $60 for 12, I'd probably have to be a pretty big fan of the Madden series to do that, or a part of a great community of online gamers. The patched up version of 11 with some good sliders will play a good enough game of Football if you don't want to make the swtich. BUT 12 will play a better game of football soon enough with some patches and sliders -- so might be prudent to wait until then as well.

Heven't played yet, but these problems are the same from year to year. I'm surprised that so much football missing from a football simulation can still draw a 7.5. I would think that realism would be a larger portion of the score.
