Madden 12 News Post

In Madden NFL 12, Franchise mode is the greatest beneficiary in the yearly cycle of improvements this year. The mode saw tons of new additions, which span across the entire spectrum of the mode, from the offseason, to roster sizes, to team management and more.

Simply put, for our more ADD readers, Franchise mode is now as deep as any of the greatest modes of this type in our genre. It's just that the User Interface is so poorly designed that I seriously think the Madden developers went out of their way to try to make the game be as frustrating as possible.

Good to see they got can't miss QB prospects out of the ULL program.

Good review, and this in particular stood out to me:

I didn't like initially not knowing my draft position and having players be quite vague in their position only to reach draft day and find out who was expected to be Top 10 vs. Top 5, etc.

This is very, very important, and needs to be addressed in the future. There's nothing more frustrating than scouting a guy who you have NO IDEA where he'll go in the draft. Nothing in the draft is certain, but between mock drafts and NFL experts, we're able to estimate a player's draft position--whether he's a Top 5 pick or likely to be an undrafted free agent.

So this has to change, because if I know ahead of time that a guy is projected to be a 2nd rounder, I might scout him more (or less) compared to a guy who's supposed to be a Top 15 pick. The reasoning behind that is simple: If I'm drafting in the bottom of the first round, unless I trade up (or this guy falls in the draft like Aaron Rodgers), I'm not gonna have a chance to draft him.

So why spend precious time scouting him?

It seems like everything I read about Madden 12 is conflicting. One place says everything is great and its the best Madden ever while another says it's the same old Madden and everything is a disappointment. The general feel I've gotten from the gameplay and franchise article is that OS is severely disappointed. Can't wait to get my hands on it so I can make my own judgements.

Good review, I must say, its disappointing to read that. I was looking forward to offline franchise, now, not so much.

Did any of the new player features (dynamic player performance, roles, etc.) get included on the online dynasty? It seems like dynamic player performance would be quite easy to add to the online franchise.

Franchise mode is awesome. I am overwhelmed right now. Such a fresh feel to it as well.

I was hoping for offline franchise mode to be awesome, but i worry that it will be overwhelmingly annoying. The overall feeling of the article sounds like a good overview for the madden player. not too little game for the Maddnite, but not enough for the power RPG player. Interface. . .sigh. I hope i can tolerate it.

EA has always been bad at interface design. Though I would say up till now it has been adequate. Reading this article makes me worry the old days of horrible interfaces are back. i hope it is tolerable.

My overall feeling of EA has been if you advertise features, they should work on release day. i guess like always it is semantics of what 'works' mean.

At some point perhaps we can get a game from EA that can be updated not just in bugs but in how it actually works. that would be nice.

It's like, wow! What a negative article. Everything is negative. I don't trust this review at all I think I am goig to love it. I have been playing franchise mode since forever and I've always liked it. With them making improvements, I can only be excited to try it out.

It's strange how different people view the same info. I didn't see this as negative at all. Just realistic. I would rather get realistic info then someone tell me how perfect something is but, I get it and hate it. Most reviews I gave seen have given this game lower ratings. It doesn't mean the game is bad. A 7 or 8 is not bad. I would rather have honest opinions. Good review so far to me. Going to rent this game to try it out. Then buy it after a pact possibly.

Did you ever get your draft class to port properly? When I tried it, major players didn't show up, Andrew Luck for instance

So far I have played all my preseason games (first time in a long while), cut players, scouted college players and played three games. I agree with a lot of what these guys have said. I am pretty happy right now with franchise mode and I think with a little help via a patch or tuner it might be even better. With that said the User interface is not very good and it makes doing little things annoying

For example..To have just the next opponent as the main screen is annoying. Every time you go into the franchise menu you have to hit Y. All of this information should be on the main screen. Plus when you exit out of Stats (an example), it doesn't bring you back to the franchise screen, but back to the next opponent screen..To me that is a little annoying. So far that is my main gripe with franchise mode...

I'm with you dude, I think I might hold off for another couple of weeks till more revelations come to light.

Has the wrong CBA. This franchise mode is useless.

This is the greatest football game me and all of my friends have ever played. Franchise mode is deep. Get your notepad out and do it the way all 25 and olders do it.

This site fed the hype for the last 5 years of complete EA football crap. Madden 07- Madden 11 were hot garbage. EA has done the seemingly impossible and made Madden good again.

I highly recommend it. It's right under MLB11 the show in my book.

Im just getting into Madden. I am extremely annoyed with the commentary. It kills the experience. For instance I have heard Calvin Johnson called by is number. Mason Foster called by another name..wtf? It wasn't a problem in 11..does anybody know what the deal is now? Doesn't NCAA announce most names. Even if you make a name change?

Also, has anyone else experienced frame rate drop during pre-game presentation of players coming into the stadium?

The freezing while scrolling through certain teams depth charts in franchise locks the game up (every single time, xbox 360)

The graphics and presentation overall are a nice change, but this game is DEFINITELY in need of being patched to fix these annoying bugs, with these minor faults gone this game has the potential to be amazing. Although do your own research into the game and obviously make your own opinion.

Has anyone tried to upload a draft class from NCAA 12 on to Madden 12??? I tried a few times now and Ugevery time on go to scouting it's not the draft class from NCAA!!! Am I the only one having this problem? Can someone help me out!!!

# 19 Anaxamander @ 08/27/11 11:46 PM
Hey, can someone tell me when in franchise you import your NCAA draft class? I want to test mine out.

# 20 LorenzoDC @ 08/28/11 12:56 AM
It's completely beyond my understanding how the developers can do such a deep and broad overhaul of a mode like franchise and the reviewers can focus so much on the potentially real but nevertheless trivial things they don't like, in the whole scheme of things.
