MLB Bobblehead Pros News Post

Back at E3, I previewed MLB Bobblehead Pros and pretty much could not say enough nice things about it. Konami's Power Pros baseball franchise is beloved for all the right reasons, and this $10 XBLA arcade game seems to be just another way for more people to experience the franchise.

Many folks may have missed out on the series because it has mostly been known for being released on Nintendo platforms this generation, but it's a simulation baseball series that is hidden under a cartoon-like graphical facade. While this version is not quite as in-depth as some of the earlier retail versions of the game, it seems like there is still local co-op online, an edit player feature (although it seems to be locked when you first play the game), full 162-game season and create-a-team elements as well.

Some members here at Operation Sports have already picked up the title and have some nice things to say about it:

There is a demo for folks to try, and it appears more content will be coming to the game later in the summer. Some of the content coming at a later date includes a home run derby, as well as My Bobble mode, which seems like it will be some sort of career mode where you control one single player for a whole season. I doubt it will be as in depth as "The Life" mode found in other Power Pros games, but it would still be a welcomed addition regardless.

Lastly, while the Xbox Live Arcade version is the only one out right now, it seems like a PS3 version will be coming at a later date.

What a killer if this is not available in season mode.
Yeah I haven't messed around with season yet, hopefully it's in there, but it looks like it, as another poster said he thought it was.

Quick question for the season mode guys,,,,it does have league leaders and stats you can go through right?

Yup, both of those things are in there.

1. Every option is available in both modes.

2. Yes , the season mode has every stat you could want. league leaders , player stats , team stats , weekly , monthly and year end awards(MVP , Hank Aaron , and Cy Young) , All Star voting , batting titles , HR title , RBI title , ect ect ect , season splits vs team in the league , and career stats.

Also keeps track of experience like past Power Pro games.

Hope that helps
I tried that, but those options are for when the human is pitching. I want to turn off the pitching cursor when the CPU is pitching to me. I don't want to see the pitch location before the pitch is thrown to me. I know it can be done in exhibition, but I don't think it can be done in SEASON MODE. I hope I'm wrong.

Downloading now. Was a huge fan of the PP series.

Okay I misunderstood the question then. From what I could tell there is no way to turn it off when hitting.

In season mode,,,It looks like you can only get into the CPUS team settings once the game starts. Pause the game,,,go to controller setup,,,then you have access to the other teams settings. See if you can switch them there. I think I am mis interpretting what cursor off is,,,but regardless, going to the CPUS controller setup in the pause menu once you start the game. See if that helps.

Good news is, it looks like whatever changes you make to the CPU team, carries over to all CPU teams when you play them.

Yeah just start a game in season mode.mThen go into "control setup" and turn off the pitching cursor during warm ups.

You are good to go!

When trying to edit players, it says that it is locked. Anyone know how to unlock this.

Donwloaded the demo yesterday!!

Still going to buy it (probably today) because i love the gameplay, specially the hiiting, to me itīs the BEST hitting scheme possible!!! Perfect in my opinion!!

However, im not liking this bobble head thing... i miss the old models...

The pitching is ok i guess, really straight forward! But the CPU never swings to anything outside the strike zone...

Never had any problem with the fielding though! I adapted perfectly (semi-auto).

The consensus on this is that it is a downloadable feature that will be unlocked when you purchase the DLC called Bobblehead battles. That DLC konami said would be available later in the season, and I think it's the third and final DLC. The guess on that is it might be awhile before its available. The All Star pack DLC should be out for the All Star game next week.

I noticed one of the achievements was for playing five seasons. Is there any type of GMing to do? I haven't noticed a menu for free agents or anything.

You can set and save all settings by creating a user profile. I dont even like baseball but this game is awesome!

guys that are smacking a ton of home runs etc...

did you change your batting settings? i notice by default its set to assist (lock on ball).

bc i took all the assists etc off and im having a hell of a time hitting lol.. i make contact, but its soff contact lol..

so much fun with this though.. i blew a 9-1 lead in last 3 innings and lost 10-9.. bah!!

# 135 jyoung @ 07/08/11 12:16 PM
I don't want to mess with the actual difficulty settings too much right now. But yeah, the game defaults to giving you a generous amount of batting assist.

Right now I am just trying to compensate by staying on default difficulty but removing the CPU pitch cursor and upping the pitch speed to fast.

I've got a series coming up with Philadelphia, so that will finally be a good test to see if it's the actual game that's too easy and not just the teams I've been playing lately (Pirates, Cubs, Nationals).

# 136 Fiddy @ 07/08/11 12:20 PM
yeah, maybe i should leave that small assist on, and make some other changes. bc its tough to make solid contact without that small assist.

Nope, no FA, no trades. Just season, spring training, and then next season.

I need to sim a season today to check out all the off-season stuff for myself.

Anyway, my three tips for hitting:

1) Know the hot and cold zones of your hitters. These can be found by pausing the game and going into the lineup screen.

2) As a general rule, don't swing at pitches below the waist unless your batter has a low hot zone or you are behind in the count. Low pitches produce ground balls.

3) Get good at using the "big swing" (press right trigger/right bumper to activate). It's the only swing type I use against the CPU.

Against human pitchers, though, you will have to use the normal swing a bit since you can't just sit on fastballs all the time lol

To me the beauty of this game is on manual batting! Itīs amazing really!

Im having a lot of dificulties batting for good average but i remember that it was the exact same thing when i started playing PowerPros! Eventually i got the hang of it and itīs incredibly rewarding playing like this!

I have CPU skill on PRO, default pitch speed, manual batting, pitching, fielding and auto baserunning for me!

Still canīt win consistently but thatīs great!
