  • Team AI and individual AI is groundbreaking in the game
  • Deeper tactics and strategy options in-game due to them being mapped to d-pad
  • All teams behave uniquely, with a greater emphasis on team play individuality
  • Graphics improved in gameplay cam, although needs some more work to achieve preferred levels
  • Match atmosphere greatly enhanced thanks to presence of managers, camera-men and groundstaff
  • Fans now wearing kits

  • Referees vastly improved. Play advantage, and book after a play has stopped
  • Gameplay more fluid than before, instant response times when dribbling and controlling the ball
  • Animations more varied in passing and shooting, although not on FIFA levels
  • Shooting still floaty, needs work
  • Throughballs not as powerful, easier to intercept with better control of players
  • New personal data feature lets user customize own controller set-up, including adding an avatar picture

Very solid article. Naturally as a PES die hard, I felt the hype rise. This was a well written article though.

Now someone just tell Konami to "Stop" right there, and don't mess with the potential by making things too complicated.

Things are sounding good for PES this year. I really enjoyed PES11 and this sounds like it's much better. Can't wait for October to roll around. Well I can wait as I'm enjoying the summer but you know what I mean.

Sounds pretty good. Love hearing the AI improvements and tactic additions. I know it may be minor to some, but very disappointing to hear that there is probably still no third kit option. Why can't this be added!

I didn't read the whole blog but can you at least change the shirt, short and socks like PES 5?

From the article...

"Talking of leaving for dead, fans will be happy to hear the catch up bug has completely gone. Quicker players when past their men will be able to stay ahead, and sometimes even extend the gap between them and the defender. It’s not an exploit however, as you can still contain by holding R2 and X. Suff got the hang of this rather quickly, and was very good at tackling as a whole.

Moving onto other fixes, and I’m happy to report referees were 99% awesome. Calling fouls, playing advantage, and booking players after play had stopped.

Excellent news.

Not sure, but doesn't seem likely. In the blog, he said it seemed the same as last year at the selection screen. Hoping something changes from now until release, maybe there is still time.

Hope they add that, I really enjoyed mixing kits when both teams had the same shorts or socks.

^Yes, I'm hoping for that also. Anyway, that was an awesome read and a very nice article.

This is sounding like it's gonna be the footy game to end all footy games. ha ha. Looking forward to it

No catch up bug, that is great news!

^That's perhaps one of the simplest, but yet one of the most rewarding fixes Konami has made.

Wow, the author did a great job summarizing the faults of PES2011. Hopefully 2012 doesn't take a similar route in terms of tuning for release, since he mentioned he thought the preview code for 2011 was much better than the final version. If it plays as well as he makes it sound, I'll take the leap and import the UK version this year.

This all sounds positive, but I still have my doubts. As much as I want PES to be the great game it once was, it's still falls behind FIFA in the fluidity of the players on the pitch. I don't have my copy of PES2011 to pop in and refresh my memory, but what I remember causing me to trade it in was how stiff and unnatural the players felt on the pitch. Players still felt on rails, and the dribbling was plain bad.

All the stuff that PES does better, is ruined IMO because of this...have to wait and see if they improve upon it.

Ya dribbling feels weird on PES 2011 compared to FIFA 11.

At least, it's possible to dribble closely past defenders in PES2011 and score long goals. lol
