Madden 12 News Post

Kotaku has posted an article featuring another interview with new EA Sports Football GM Cam Weber discussing Madden NFL 12 and beyond.

Quote:
"Weber showed up in February, halfway through Madden 12's build. What a three-year plan is, Weber says, is a comprehensive focus on football gameplay - "whistle to whistle" as he says - that's meant to keep each year from being purely reactive, so that future editions going forward all have identifiable long-term development behind them. In so doing, he offered that Tiburon's core football gameplay team would double in size. Though this crew works on the engine used by both Madden and NCAA, that became "Madden's team is doubling."

Weber reiterates: Twice as many people will be working on core gameplay for both games. Madden and NCAA retain their own teams of designers, producers and animators, focusing on the features that differentiate them."

I've moved from wait and see to buy it on launch. Gonna be a fun year.

Wowsers, just wowsers.

Before I came down here, I spent hours combing through forums and reading what people say. There's a lot of negative response to a lot of things," Weber says. "But when you think about it, you've got a really engaged community there. Maybe they're angry about certain things, maybe they're frustrated about certain things, but they're out there, they're passionate, and those are the people you want to build a game for.

"I'd rather deal with a passionate fanbase than one that doesn't care," Weber said.

The fact he called out the hardcore community gives me incredible hope that we might get more than gameflow...

The Vick picture is from 12.

I'm a little confused though. I know the headline here says twice as many people are working on Madden 12, but in the quote in the OP, it sounds like Cam is speaking of future games like Madden 13 and on.

Great news regardless. I like what I've read from Cam so far and I also get a good feeling when it comes to this year's game. I did buy last year's game too, but I wasn't as optimistic as I'm feeling now. Last year you could almost tell there wasn't going to be that big of a leap made, but I think/hope that will be different this year.

We're on the topic of the gameplay team doubling, not on the topic of wishlists.

NCAA has it, no reason why Madden won't since the GM is in charge of both games.

So this Weber guy is from FIFA's production team?

This is great news....I think FIFA is EA's best series.

And he worked with Fight Night too. Yet another EA series in better shape than Madden in recent years.

And I've moved from "I'm not buying it" to "wait and see" Sounds like M12 will have some much needed changes to gameplay, but Tiburon still needs to work on implementation e.g. the NCAA 12 gameplay trailer looked like it had little to no locomotion.

Yeah to me player movement is something that could be worked on and make this game feel and play much better.

After reading about what is in NCAA 12 and thinking I seen at least the multi-hit tackling in the more gameplay vid BEFORE actually reading about it, this bodes well for Madden 12.

Increasing the team members SHOULD be fruitful and hopefully, BOTH games will truly shine like never before....but I take issue with that spin to the ground tackle animation appearing too many times for my liking in the vids. I gotta go back and see if they just kept using the same footage over and over. I didn't really analyze it, initially.

I know the Vick shot is from 12, i meant the pictures in the article like this one here:

And about the actual article, i sort of agree with you. When i read it, i didn't see anything about the current Madden game having double the team; Especially when he just got abroad this February

I'm guessing that's a Madden 11 shot. If it's 12, they forgot to put in 3d grass like NCAA.

So it sounds like Madden 12 is basically Ian Cummings and the old Madden team's game.

The new Madden team sounds great, but it doesn't look like we will see their impact until Madden 13.

I do like the fact that the new guy is from FIFA. FIFA is EA's best franchise.

What old Madden team are you referring too? If you read the article, only Ian and one other person left from IT.

Hardly a "team."

Until I actually see changes, this only seems like pandering to me. Who do you think will hear about this quote from him? Only us, the guys he's referring to.

This one and the "Defensive Secondary AI" thread are the best two threads I've read in this forum in a long time. I'm starting to get a little hopeful for Madden again.
