MLB 11 The Show News Post

Now this is not widely tested... but everyone who has done this, seems to have fixed the in game stuttering and intro stutter.

And also would explain why those who did HDD upgrades, had their PS3 for a while have more of an issue than those who have brand new slims. (database is more garbled)

The HDD is constantly access by today's games, and while it is not a Windows style OS the PS3 uses (it is supposed to restructure every boot up and shut down, thus no defrag utility) it can sometimes get a little clustered, especially if you do a lot of gaming, and PSN demo downloading, etc.

These two links walk you through how to rebuild your PS3's database.

Those of us who have done this, eliminated the intro stutter, and in game stuttering all together.

It is fast, and simple, and all you will lose is the custom folders, messages, and playlists made (in which you can back them up ahead of time), and have to reapply proper audio/video settings.

Hope this helps clear this up for everyone.

NOTE: This is good to do once a month if you game and PSN heavy, or once every couple of months casually. Think of it like de-fragging your computer. So even if you don't get the stutter, it is good to maintain the HDD and have a happy running PS3. It will perform better across the board in all areas.

Doing this helped the stuttering and other problems, but it actually corrupted all my PS2 mem card saves; nothing too big a deal and i didn't realize i still had them from God of War 2 and some old Socom stuff, but it did indeed corrupt those too.

I noticed after the patch came out the stutter at the beginning of the opening credits went away. I just did this to my 60 gig for the first time in the 5 years i've owned it and it kinda scared me a bit cause the background froze after selecting the hdmi output so I just waited a second and nothing happened. So I followed the instructions and pushed x and then waited again and eventually it rebooted. Now to see the results.

Yeah, that happened to a lot of us. But doing this made it go away when PSN was up as well.

Did anyone else have to redo sounds of the show after the reboot? My jukebox went nuts started playing chants and wrong songs.

Yah, just did this earlier and noticed it. I haven't had time to yet, but i imagine if i delete the songs out of the jukebox and then readd them things will be back to normal. (Fingers crossed)

UPDATE : yah, it worked, but i have to go back and reassign all of my team music - do'h! I have a 60gb system and i see that the songs don't match up with the file name anymore. Example: in the bottom right hand corner it will say a metallica song is playing, but i hear a foo fighters song. I also noticed that its only mixed up in game. If i play the song out in the xmb, theres no problem. One last thing, i don't have my music in a folder or playlist. Its just there under the music tab, maybe that had somethingvto do with the mess up?

Add me to the list of people this has worked for. No more audio stutter on the game's start up, and no more in game stuttering either. Thanks Enigma, great info.

Btw, all of walk up music and other sounds of the show stuff is still working. Didn't have to redo anything.. very nice.

Hey guys, unfortunately, rebuilt the database didn't do it for me. It has been getting increasingly bad, especially in game, it stutters sometimes every 3-4 pitches.
When I pitch, after pressing a button and selecting a pitch or sometimes in the middle of the delivery, same thing when I am hitting, the swing is started, then pause for half a sec and throw the timing way off... I have a 500GB HDD in there by the way, it was a 320GB slim unit to begin with... Do I need to rebuild and then remove the songs from the jukebox (which I did) or rebuild, delete all the songs from the HDD and add them back? Please help, it is driving me nuts.
Does it matter if I enable internet or not, although I think I have tried both and see no difference.

Delete the game data and reinstall the game? What will happen to the existing roster, franchise and stuff?

i tried this...twice and i still have the in game struttering/lag. it does it in the begining of the game and then it'll will just randomly stop and then when theres a clutch moment, say man on second with the game tied, it'll start lagging bad again. I'm kinda giving up on this game even though i love everything about it. Anyone know anything else i can do to stop the lag?

# 92 mpbaseball22 @ 06/04/11 08:59 PM
Is it a constant lag? Or does it stutter here and there every now and then?

I used to have the game intro stutter happen but that was fixed and every now and then it will lag a bit for a second or two.. But very rarely

It happens quite constantly, sometimes it freezes for a whole second during a pitch and it might happen again a few pitches later. It almost never gets pass 2-3 innings without it stuttering once.

I know its been mentioned already but i've been having internet problems the past 2 weeks and finally got connected today and for the 1st time really noticed how studdery it makes this game. i did the rebuild awhile ago and thought it didnt really do anything but mess up my sounds of the show, but after this morning....i stand corrected.

So I'm not getting the intro stutter anymore (I've done this before) but I am getting a 1-2 second freeze every time I push start at the first screen and any time I come from a game to the menu. Would rebuilding the database fix this?

I would just do it again, but I feel like I remember it messing up all of my Sounds of the Show as far as the Walkup music goes. It basically took about 90% of my song cues and mixed them between each other. Each one was usually about 2-3 tracks off. Anyone else have this and have anyway around this? I really don't want to to my Sounds of the Show....again.

I think it's a PSN thing. Try it when signed out, or disable Internet.

This. Occurs after coming out of a game as well.

Its def a PSN thing, game intros and such are much smoother when you disconnect from the internet.

Mines is a constant struttering and it gets REALLY annoying especially when your pitching. Everytime i pitch it will freeze for a second while he is doing the windup and then again when he is about to throw it. It takes about 4 innings untill things get better but even then there is some constant struttering/lag
