NCAA Football 12 News Post

That’s right NCAA Football fans, bowl patches will be making their triumphant return in NCAA Football 12.

If you have read any of my articles concerning the NCAA Football series over the years, you know that I put a big emphasis on the little details in the game, especially details that were present in the years when the series was flourishing on the PS2 and Xbox in the early to mid 2000s. This small jersey presentation addition blew my mind when I first saw it in NCAA 2002, and it quickly became one of my favorite aspects of the series.

The patches themselves gave each bowl game the feeling that you were participating in something much bigger than a regular season game. Plus, I'm one of those geeks who loves everything about the pageantry and tradition of college football, so seeing the patches in a video game representation of my favorite sport was nothing short of a dream come true.

Good stuff, Chase. It'll be nice to take the Hokies to the National Championship and see that patch on their jerseys.

Awesome! I am glad this is not the only news we are getting today.

I agree with the poster above about the feet actually sinking into the grass. I am really hoping that the players actually PLANT their feet when they run this year. In previous Madden/NCAA's on next gen the players literally just glide across the field. It is vey noticeable and is not only an eye-sore but also makes the game very unrealistic because nobody actually plants their feet and cuts, etc..

Add this gliding to a pretty bad running animation and stiff robotic movements and that is a big part of the problem with next-gen football games IMO.

here is a new screenshot from that post...here is what I noticed:

-textured grass looks AMAZING!
-Eli Manning helmet is in
-Players look more lifelike
-DREADS
-Ankle braces are black!!!!!!!!!
-colored gloves
-looks like we will get to change the color of chin straps, the lineman in that picture has a green chin strap.
-bowl patches looks great
-can't wait for big time news on thursday

I hope with these bowl patches that we get individual bowl game presentation. Like the announcers talking about the Sugar bowl, and having presentation graphics showing you which game you play in. I want to see each game feel more individualized. This is what is going to put this game over the top, especially when it comes to long dynasties, and playing every game of a season. It will keep the game fresh, and keep it from becoming monotonous.

I see the grass is ripped up. I wonder does that effect a player if they step back in the same spot? But 11 and it looks like 12 is gonna take NCAA to another level.

Don't get me wrong bowl patches are nice to have in the game but seriously you got to stop hyping up stuff like this for days. There is almost no option here but to be disappointed. Let's hope that the blog today will be better.

I hope they have the solid vapors with the white. Like these in the picture below as another option for cleats. Also, the special Nike Vapors for the Pro Combat Unis as well.

We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be getting new info on NCAA, and we're talking about patches. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about patches, not gameplay, not features, not presentation, but we're talking about patches. Not the gameplay that I go out there and spend hours with and play every game like it's my last but we're talking about patches man. How silly is that?

The default "shoulder pad height" seems to be on point.

I had a feeling it was going to be bowl patches, since it was stated it was going to be a small presentational detail. Not terribly exciting, but details are always nice.

Love seeing the grass actually coming apart in the pictures.

You talking about OS or EA? Don't think we have been hyping anything on the front page or anything...

I didn't know Allen Iverson played NCAA Football! Well played

We'll have more this afternoon, they wanted to let Christian break the news on bowl patches but I believe we'll get more in the blog post than just bowl patches information

A NCAA Blog about anything makes my day. I'm hoping they put in a more unique playing environment for bowl games. You know since that's what your actually playing for and recruiting for the entire season. No matter how small everything helps and I'm glad EA is looking at the detailed stuff that makes College Football authentic and exciting. I can't wait till I get my hands on this game!

Rofl, love the reference.

Notice how on that one screenshot #72, #47, and #8 seem to be looking towards the ball carrier. Could this finally mean players will be aware of where the ball is (wide outs and d backs turning their heads and looking for it on catches, eyes following the ball carrier when making tackles, etc.)? Sounds like a small feature but it was a beautiful thing in the 2K series.
