Chris Sanner: Let me start this roundtable in a strange sort of way, which is with a brief discussion about why college basketball gaming failed. Put simply, it failed because it didn't capture the audience's attention -- sales were low, attention was lower, and this almost always translated into an average at best game. Even when College Hoops 2K games seemed to break into the realm of being kind of good, they still sold extremely poorly.

I think considering everything, a college hoops game would have to be of just exceptional quality to even start to sell well, but the even bigger problem is that college basketball just isn't that popular from November through February in America. However, this is me framing the basis for the rest of the debate, so how about it OS staffers, can a college basketball game not only survive but thrive and how?

I would actually start in the AAU circuits. Then get invited to one of the various All Star Games. You can only get invited to two. If you get invited to McDs and Roundball you get a 5 star rating. The higher the rating, the more schools you can choose from.

That's the best way to do it, IMO, and the easiest to program. They already have summer camps, which can be turned into 5 AAU games. Add in a couple of all star game invites, and then you choose your school, depending on who offers.

I definatly think there is a market for College Basketball, and there are alot of good Idea'S ON HERE. I would either purchase, a downloadable editor for 2k11 with 2k share, or package the game with 2k12 or 13, and charge 80.00 dollers for the whole thing. Have the same features but some diffrent for College basketball. this would be an Annual Purchase by me. I loove the College Hoops and Nba 2k Series. Bring Back NHL as well.

It's a high demand for f this game I dont get why 2k don't
Put it out there to get gamers support if the licesne is the
Problem are what this game will hit on all levels
It don't even need marketing jus put it out and the gamers
Will handle the rest

I absolutely loved the Choops 2k series. 2K8 is the best College bball game ever. I have hoped year after year that 2K would wake up and bring it back. I hope there is some rep from 2k reading this board and takes some of the ideas mentioned here and actually implements one of them.

The dlc is def the way to go,but there's gotta be enough room for all the conferences to be made, and for sharing so that we can all have the complete experience.I still to this day own and play my ch2k7 and 2k8 and they are almong the most gratifying experiences on the virtual hardwood for me.my only gripe with the college hoops series is that since it was cut so short they didn't get to further expand on the many many many great things about the game, from the create a chant to the school creator and editor, give me a jersey editor and 2k12 like custom options for the shoes/accessories and the game won't come out of my system and I know I'm not alone! I'm down for a petition!

With the overwhelming success of NBA 2k11 it is a MUST that they capitolize by bring back the College Hoops Series.

All they have to do is set it up where the two games go hand and hand. Example my player mode should start off in college.

The NBA created draft classes would have came from some where so you can relate to playing against rookies that you once battled in college.

Just like real life the key is tying those two together then it would most defintely sell units. Thats a strategy that 2k can not lose with.

The licensces are probley more of a problem than will it sell.

I have a couple of quick ideas as to how a 2k college sports game can be developed. Many of these thoughts have already been said, but I just want to add a few of my comments.

I obviously recognize that the license to the game is one of the major hurdles to the creation of an NCAA title. NCAA needs to recognize that a college basketball game only helps their product getting exposure. It also must recognize that basketball does not have the value of a football franchise. I wonder if NCAA would ever sell their license based on the amount of copies that are ultimately sold. I know this creates huge headaches, but I guess they can figure out a way to figure out a final number. This could be a short term way in really determining the value of an NCAA Basketball license. Otherwise, NCAA must really determine the value of their license or whether 2k could contact individual school, but there are probably licensing matters with the NCAA that I know nothing about.

As to the development of the game, use the gameplay of NBA 2k11. I think this would be an inexpensive way to create the game. NCAA football takes a lot of what works with MAdden, and tweaks it to the college game, and NCAA should do the same. 2k would just have to spend considerable time with authenticating the teams. I loved the career and open legacy modes, and would definitely like to see those coming back in any new college basketball game. Without it, I'll still with my 2k8.

I also like the idea of an NCAA game coming out maybe around Christmas time or sometime in February when teams begin their fight for March Madness. I know I personally do not play 2k8 until around March Madness time. So maybe sometime after the superbowl may be a good idea. Or push it around the time of the conference tournaments.

And obviously a commitment to 2k share and draft classes to be added to the NBA2k. 2k may also recognize that some people who may not be interested in NBA 2k, may invest in NBA 2k to play with their CH 2k players. I own NBA 2k11. It would be unlikely that I would buy 2k12 since 2k11 was so good unless I could upload a draft class from CH2k12.

Just a few quick thoughts, as I do not want to study for finals, but I would definitely buy CH 2k12, and probably buy NBA 2k12 to to upload draft classes.

Just my opinion, but the game doesn't revolve around My Player Mode, just saying.

What if they just forgot about the NCAA licensing like old school college games did? 2ksports would save a ton of money and with 2kshare, custom logos and the OS editing community I'm sure a non-licensed game with the "Florida Crocs" and "Kentucky Tigers" would mirror an NCAA game in less than a week. Has this idea been brought up before?

I can't believe there are 3 tennis games (including ones made by both EA and 2k) yet we can't get one NCAA hoops game?!? I get that tennis is a "worldly" sport, and thus might sell better internationally because of that, but I still have a hard time conceptualizing a tennis market which necessitates three similar games to choose from?

The other stinger is that College Hoops 2k8 (and even the last NCAA March Madness to a degree) had such a strong foundation. It hurts to see titles like this (Links golf was another great game that disappeared) become dinosaurs. I still think March Madness and the whole NCAA tournament is about as good as it gets in sports. It is a shame for the sport to not have annual representation in the video game world.

IMO the only feasible idea out there is to have something college related built in to NBA 2K. Use it with My Player like others have said and have the Top 25 programs in the country in the game. You go through HS/AAU, sign with one of the 25 schools in the game, play your career and then get drafted, etc.

I'm assuming that makes little business/financial sense to 2K (how many more units would they sell based on this feature and how much $ they have to fork over to the CLC?). I don't think it'll ever happen but it's the most likely scenario.

All it would give us would be exhibition games but updated uniforms, courts and arenas would be great. They would have to find a way to 'lock' the teams so you couldn't have NBA vs college exhibitions I assume. At this point I'll take what I can get. CH2K8 was still playable until 2K11 came out and blew the lid off the basketball genre. I'll throw in 2K8 for nostalgia's sake once in a blue moon but I can't see myself playing another dynasty.
