Hi, I am SO impressed with even this early build/demo, we cannot wait for the 8th. I am taking all glitch comments with a grain of salt until the disk is in the machine.

Downloaded it last night, tried one inning, but I am Bad with the sticks so I am waiting until tonight when my son takes over so I can enjoy him playing (if he lets me!). He plays HS ball (pitcher) so I'm really, Really, REALLY glad this game is more like the real thing as far as
- TIMING in the box
- quick reactions/player responsibility
- the whole pitching thing (BALKS!, accuracy, individual nuances, and so on)

I love the idea of not just pointing to a spot and the ball goes there, it reminded me of a shape sorter box for toddlers. The question thread is great, I'll try to point him to it before he starts up. You expert guys are Great with your quick answers!

I'll try to post some of his reactions later tonight.

Playing my second game now and wow, Catcher 5 is fantastic. To all of you that suggested it - thank you!

And a very funny thing just happened.
I completely messed up a curveball and actually bounced it off the grass. The funny part? The batter swung and fouled it off.

Cricket '11 The Show!

I'm loving the game, btw. Just thought it was funny.

the whole idea of skipping the game if you don't like the new controls makes absolutely no sense. You have the option of using the new or old way.

For everyone saying you don't have time to react to a pitch, remember that you need to start your pull back at the pitchers release point. If you're doing this, then you have exactly the same amount of time to react as you did before...

Also don't forget that there will be a pitch speed slider in the full version if you still can't get the hang of that

First few attempts with the hitting, my my, that will take some practice, couldnt hit a thing with analog, switched back to good old timing (HOF) and bingo, couple of hits and a run instantly, but i will go back to giving analog a go with Catcher 5 for hitting as others have suggested.

Analog pitching, hmmm, not sure on it, i like my meter...but again will give it more of a chance, thats the point of the demo.

Overall looks wise its as good as ever, looking forward to digging deeper

I just played my first game and saw something i dont think ive ever seen before...i was pitching and josh hamilton ripped a line drive right off lincecum's face and he went flat on his back and was rolling around on the mound. unfortunately, injuries are turned off so i was right back up for the next batter, but it was so cool to see that happen. it makes me wonder what the outcome wouldve been had injuries been on. talk about a game and a season changing incident

I think the addition of Karros is great. We NEVER heard Matt have a conversation with Hud or even Dave about a teams performance in the previous year, or a players performance.

I just hope they have that sort of connection in franchise. That would be great to hear them talk about a team's performance, lets say, being in the Wild Card hunt in early September.

I love the analog controls for pitching. It really feels like a whole new game with the addition of it. I really feel like I'm used to it after 2 games, but I will keep on practicing. But I will most likely use the Classic controls for batting. Even when I had 2k7, and 2k8 on XBOX, I never found myself using the Swing Stick. Maybe its just me, but I do like the single button batting better.

Even better then!

Well, so much for you guys not being challenged with sticks right? The analog hitting is as real as it gets for me... and Fielding is highly difficult, but that's good, tough plays should be tough to execute. Analog pitching feels perfect. Analog all the way and never looking back. Hats off SCEA

That's why I never used the meter to pitch, and always used classic controls. Much like the old High Heat series, you aim the ball, and throw it, but depending on your players ratings (and on this game, how long you hold the button for power/stuff) the pitch doesn't automatically go exactly where you aimed it.

I'm using the pitchers cam while pitching and I think the crowd behind the plate is uglier than in previous versions!? That's just a pixel mess so far, I hope that'll be alright in the final version.

edit: same problems with that scoreboard behind centerfield. Not looking good imo. Sadly, I'm not impressed so far.

edit2: gameplay is pretty decent. Love the new fielding controls, pitching's also fun. I guess that real zone batting or whatever it is called isn't in the demo. I batted using the buttons and took "zone" in the options but it's actually the same thing like in the previous years. I'm still waiting for cursor batting a la PYS either way.

btw: love that new pickoff camera-angles. Nice.

I will say this... Lincecum's hair looks pretty bad, especially with how good everything else looks. It would be cool if they could find a way to have more naturally looking hair. As is, he looks like he's got about 12 lbs of gel in there, lol. And when he takes his hat off? Wicked Billy Ray Cyrus mullet!

Is this the view that is off-centered? I have always had trouble picking up balls in the dirt. Does this camera view help?

# 255 Blzer @ 02/23/11 10:49 AM
The camera view is lowered in Catcher 5, looking more upward. It's a sexy view, and a nice basis for customization when I pick up the retail.

The left side is right - shouldn't it be SFGIANTS, not SFGIGANTS?

{I just wanted to bring it to the attention of the DEVS - they may already know this OR this may ONLY be a mistake in the demo ONLY...just wanted to give them a heads up.}

That's all!
I haven't had a chance to play the demo, but living in SF and following the Giants, I am 100% positive it says says sfgigantes.com (that's the Giants Spanish language website) - that is not an error.

Edit: I saw that bcruise had already replied.

I remember that---son's had High Heat '02, Slugfest '04, 2K5, NCAA MVP '07, 2K7, and '07 The Show. It's like the games grew up alongside his own ability.

And one of them, the players were on fire, or were animals, they had a blast! Can you imagine MLB 12 Undead Nightmare? lol Oh well, enough to practice on with the game as it is.

You serious? That's awesome. I mean, it's scary when it happens in real life and the potential injuries could be devastating, but still.. you know what I mean.

Think standard Catcher cam but much lower.
It makes it easier to read pitches, yes (IMO).

And I just want to add, the slider is beautiful in this game. The CPU threw one by me earlier and I almost cheered when it was called a strike because it just looked so good.

What's the longest demo you've played so far?

My first game went 11 innings!

Texas took a 1-0 lead in top of 4th and I leveled it in the bottom. Stayed 1-1 until the Rangers won it in the 11th after Lincecum's 130th odd pitch.

Did it annoy anyone else that there's no bullpen access in the demo? (unless I just couldn't find it). Pissed me off throwing late innings with a gassed starter when the Rangers are emptying their pen.

Don't know about you guys, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the overall presentation. Maybe it's because Sony has set the bar at 9.9/10 and it's pretty darn hard to improve each year. Not sure what I was expecting, but it all looked very much the same as last year's version.

Took a while to get used to analog controls, but I think I'll stick with them. Feels like a much more pure baseball experience.

Also, the baseball in the Giants logo on the video screen at AT&T Park gives the illusion that each player has a blonde mullet when their photo is placed in front of the SF logo
