NBA 2K11 News Post

Dwyane Wade in LA. Carmelo under the bright lights in MSG. LeBron to the Suns. The landscape of the NBA is changed at the click of a button, the stars of the league realigned.

A fantasy draft in NBA 2K11 may be one of the most entertaining things you can do to liven up your Association mode. NBA 2K’s AI general managers also draft intelligently, selecting the league’s youngest and brightest stars early in the draft to build around. Rondo, John Wall and Derek Rose are all consistently chosen within the top 10 of the draft.

When building your draft boards, some of us dream about the luxury of having a CP3 or Dwight Howard available to us. But sometimes the ping-pong balls just don’t fall in your favor, and you may find yourself drafting towards the end of the first round.

Regardless of your draft position, you can still build a strong foundation of a team around players not named Kobe, LeBron or Durant. Here are some players to build around when the superstars are no longer on your draft board.

This way I know which teams are good/average/poor and take advantage of the downloaded rosters/coach sliders that people make.

My line up(rated 80 overall):
PG: D Collinson
SG: M Ginobli
SF: G Wallace
PF: L Aldridge
C: B Haywood
6th: A Blatche (PF)
Role: D James (SF), R Alston (PG),
Bench: G Henderson (SG), K Humphries (PF)
Filler: W Warren (PG), D Cook (SG), S Graham (SF), C Hunter (C)

I did draft M Beasley, but traded him for Wallace (with a SG swap as well). I usually rotate Blatche in at C then PF and get him 30 mpg. I am currently 3-2 after picking up wins against Detroit, Sacramento & Charlotte. I lost to Orlando and Miami (Double OT).

What I think my team needs is a good back up SG to take the pressure off Manu. I need to keep Manu's minutes down cos he takes longer to recover fatigue due to his age. Anyone got any ideas of a good back up SG I could move for?
CJ Miles is a quality wing player. Knockdown shooter, can finish on the break, and can defend the sg-sf positions.

Exactly, I like BG at 6th as well and to anchor the reserve squad in much the same way Lamar Odom comes aff the bench, even though he is allaround better than Artest, Artest and Affalo set the tone defensively very nicely. And that leaves Odom and Gordon free to have an offensive impact with the reserves. Although, I would likely split the time at the 2 almost dead even with Affalo and Gordon.

SG- Afflalo
PG-Deron Williams

Bench:

C-Nene
PF- Brandon Bass
SF- Kyle Korver
SG- Martell Webster
PG - Ronnie Price
C- Hilton Armstrong
SG- JJ Reddick

Sometimes, late in games I go will go with Both Nene and Oden down low to protect that house!
Nice roster, though I don't like Redd at the 3, he is no match for the like of Odom, Artest, Lebron, Lewis, Pierce and all the other bigger and taller 3s. I'd go with Korver's length and outside shooting to create space.

I've mocked a couple of drafts and for the first time Yao Ming fell to me @ 30. I prefer to pick dead last every round because it obviously makes it more difficult to assemble a quality team. Here are the results of my draft.

1-C Yao Ming
2- PF Kevin Love
3- SF Andre Kirelenko
4- SF Rahard Lewis
5- PG Michael Bibby
6- SG Aaron Afflalo
7- PF Boris Diaw
8- SG Thabo Sefolosha
9- SF Kyle Korver
10- C DeAndre Jordan
11- PG Boobie Gibson
12- SF Donte Green
13- PG AJ Price

I then signed Blake Griffin's twin brother and Joe Alexander (of West Virginia Univ fame) and sent them to the D-League.

Thabo then became unhappy when I had to demote him from Sixth Man to Bench Warmer. His defense impressed me so I then promoted him to Role Player but his moral was still in the dumps so I turned around and traded Sefolosha and AJ Price for Chris "Bird Man" Anderson. His contract expires at the end of the season so It should give me room to free up space to re-sign Aaron Afflalo to a multi-year deal.

Another thing fellas....make sure to edit all the generic D League players to 44 or 45 years old so that they retire after season 1 and the 2nd season of your association will have 90% real NBA journeymen and real prospects from the draft class.

Lastly (actually do this before starting the Assoc) I created a pretty accurate Ricky Rubio and added him to the existing 2012 draft class I uploaded from 2k share as I was reading he should be stateside next season.

I don't like Rishard at the 2, I'd go with Affalo and bring Rishard off at 6th man in much the same way Odom does for the Lakers.

I normally take a center or PG first because there aren't many good centers in the NBA and i need a good pg to control the floor

# 48 CHANNAH4 @ 01/31/11 11:26 PM
I like taking Josh smith with my 2nd round pick because he is the best defender on the game hes usually there in the top 10 of the second round

Eric Bledsoe is a heck of a player. My association is with the Clippers, and even though he wasn't starting to begin with, he made a good impression, so much so that I traded Baron Davis after just 4 games or so in order for Bledsoe to become my starter.

Since then he's averaged about 18 points per game and has been excellent from behind the arc in addition to his inside scoring prowess.

Another player to recommend is Jason Thompson, the Kings' young Power Forward. He was great for me in last year's game and is excellent on the glass. He is one to develop definitely.

Hey everyone, thought I would explain the rationale for my fantasy draft team. I'm the Magic and am up 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs against the Hawks and finished my regular season 65-17.

PG: Derrick Rose
SG: Jason Richardson
SF: Dorrell Wright
PF: Blake Griffin
C: Chris Bosh

Bench
SF: Chase Budinger
SG: JJ Redick
C: Channing Frye
PF: Taj Gibson
PG: Earl Boykins
PF: Luke Harangody
SF: Rasaul Butler

I decided to trade my third round selection, LaMarcus Aldridge, and my next two first round picks (2011 and 2012) for Blake Griffin and a second rounder in 2012 to create my Big 3 of Rose, Griffin and Bosh. I figured I would go for the known commodities of Rose and Griffin as the foundation of my franchise as opposed to making 2 first round picks in the coming years. The rest of my team, I wanted to be able to spread the floor. With Rose's ability to drive and kick, my team has been deadly. J-Rich is a fantastic 2-guard option, and shoots well off of a double screen, and when he is not on, JJ is in to carry the load from the perimeter. I think Richardson was a steal in the 4th round, and his contract situation is pretty good, as he is locked up for the next three years (I think). I won the MVP with D-Rose, averaging 27.9 and 12.8 assists, and am looking forward to bringing a title to the Amway Center. Contract situation with Rose may be a bit dangerous, but I will release who I have to in order to keep him around for a long time.

Just my two cents. I love reading about other people's philosophies and teams, so great thread. In my opinion, the fantasy draft keeps everything fresh and interesting.

Ive done thousands of drafts since I got nba 2k11 I know its hard to believe, but its true. drafts have never suited me because I quickly get tired of them.I cant find a good team or a pick that I want to be. I will try giving drafts until Saturday if I dont find a good draft by Saturday. I'll stop doing drafts. I will have a association to fall back on which will be the Celtics season I might start. I will keep trying drafts till sat. What pick should I be what team should i be? can you guys help me make a decision?

I have started a fantasy draft association as Miami currently (30-18). Always seem to lose when simulated. Have made a lot of trades to original squad and originally just tried to pick best players and then trade assets for needs.

Original squad:
PG:Kyle Lowry
SG: D.Wade
SF:Wilson Chandler
PF:Josh SMith
C:LaMarcus Aldridge
Bench: Gortat, Sefolosha, Duhon, Kwame Brown, Petro, Courtney Lee, Dorell Wright, Jamario Moon and signed Eddie House (FA)

Needed a proper centre so traded out: Chandler, Petro, Lee and House for Okafor and Redick.
Signed James Jones and Shelden Williams as FA.
Traded Gortat and Redick for Rashard Lewis to have depth in forward positions and Wright and Brown for C.J.Watson and a draft pick.
Signed DeSagana Diop, Rasual Butler, Matt Carroll, Joel Anthony and Josh Boone and on traded Diop with Jones and Williams for DeAndre Jordan (like him as a prospect).
Lewis was awful so traded him and Duhon for Greg Oden and Amir Johnson as Okafor was injured.
Finally with 2 PF, 2 C's and no SF i traded Josh Smith and Okafor (once returned from injury) for Kevin Durant and Hassan Whiteside.
went from 15-14 to 30-18 currently.

Current line up of:
Lowry, Wade, Durant, Aldridge, Oden.
Bench: Sefolosha, Watson, Moon, Butler, Jordan, Anthony, Boone, Whiteside, Johnson, Carroll.

Durant has a 1yr/$21mill contract but re-signed 5yrs between $7mill-$11mill. Dont know why? But it means i have nearly $20mill available with free agency. LeBron, CP3 and Derrick Rose being main out of contract players.
Thinking of getting CP3 as Rose states he would like to re-sign with his team. Though i could get LeBron and trade him for 2 good players? Next season only my starting 5, Watson and Moon are signed up.

Foreshadowing in the first post with Carmelo to the Knicks. I can't wait to see how Wade gets to LA and LeBron to the Suns. Clearly that will happen as Chris obviously knows the future. Should be an exciting off season filled with drama in Miami.
