MLB 11 The Show News Post

With the release of NBA 2K11 and NHL 11, all of the major sports titles have now been released for 2010. And rising from the dust of a lot of busted franchise modes is SCE San Diego Studio's MLB 10: The Show.

Here are five reasons why The Show possesses the best franchise/dynasty mode on the market.

1. Simulation Realism

It's really very simple for number one. You don't see random guys consistently performing at a higher level in this game. Sure, there are fluke seasons in The Show, but there are in real life, too. Jose Bautista is a great example of this. If you have a good team with good coaches, you are going to perform well. It's as simple as that.

A player with a high plate discipline and plate vision is going to draw more walks. A pitcher with good stuff and low control is going to strike out a lot of people but walk his fair share of batters as well. Performing based on attributes is something that has apparently fallen out of favor with many titles this year, most notably in Madden 11 and NHL 11.

Glenn, you are definitely missing out, especially if you have played MLB 2K11. It is like night and day.

The only reason I haven't bought NBA 2k11 yet is because I'm still playing the show and can't stop. i have so many other games that have collected dust because of The Show's Franchise Mode. I still haven't even scratched the surface of RTTS mode, which I've heard is pretty addicting, also.

Yes I have to agree, the show is no doubt the king, just the depth of the game is amazing, especially the frannchise mode and RTTS. Sorry to hear Glenn, but once I started reading up on this game, I sold my xbox 360 and immediately bought this game and a PS3, I remember driving home thinking I am buying a PS3 for just one game? Well I haven't regretted it since.

I also went out and bought a ps3 just for the show back in 07. I don't even bother buying other games anymore because I play the show year round.

I don't care about baseball, but I wish they had the level of detail of this game on Madden. I would love real physics, instead of animations, to be added to the game as well.

Madden can show the on field play of football at a decent level, but it is poor at showing a realistic franchise/ownership mode. The game doesn't even have PS players or FA tenders.

The main reason I plan the Show over Madden and I think Madden is quite good, is how quickly you can actually do things in it. Madden's menus are sooooo slow, w/ the show it's responsive and moves quickly.

Good stuff, man. While The Show's menus aren't perfect (they need a save all lineup button for god's sake), they are at least extremely responsive.

The Show is THE reason I bought a PS3 back in May. Nearly six months later, I'm still playing The Show and see no signs of slowing down. Heck, I feel like I still have a lot to learn about the game; I'm getting ready to try out 30-team control and Manager Mode in my next franchise (I've got 2 other franchises going that I'm 50 games into).

Like Knight said, give us some more ticker updates during games and maybe a weekly highlight show but other than that, The Show is heads and shoulders above the other sports games out there. NBA 2K and NCAA 11 do offer a lot to the user and shouldn't be dismissed, but in terms of overall package, The Show is No. 1.

I disagree. The show isn't even the franchise king in it's own sport-- MLB 2k10 is. To each his own, I guess.

2k(whatever it was this year), I mean.

Nothing to see here. Look at the registration date. It will be picking up steam soon around here like that post. Just hit the triangular ! and move on!

Why is that opinion incredible? I can make an incredibly detailed argument supporting this opinion, but we both know that ends with you calling me names.
NCAA has a better franchise.
Madden has a better franchise.
MLB 2k has a better franchise.
And, finally, NBA 2k11 is probably three years ahead on their franchise.

A side note:
MLB 2k was severely underrated this year. I understand the love of the show. I think it's quite a good game. I preferred the show 09 to mlb 2k, but 2k won out for me this year. Gameplay-wise the king is up for debate-- either game makes a good case. Franchise-wise, 2k is better. Despite some pretty hideous flaws. The shows franchise is two years old, and two years ago it wasn't that impressive.

I should have stopped at NCAA has a better franchise....
I REALLY should have stopped at Madden has a better franchise
My wife had to finish typing this after I read that MLB2K(you know...the one you don't even know if it's '10 or '11) has a better franchise.
Either you haven't played any of those games for very long with their franchise modes...or you've never played the The Show at all.
Certainly The Show has it's warts in franchise mode...but it definitely trumps any of the one's you've listed.
NBA2K11 is nice....but still bested by the Show.

...and look...no name calling!

Hello Knight,

Two years ago there was a very vocal critic of the show with a sabermetric leaning. He was subsequently jettisoned from the community. He felt as though maybe he has made his point (i.e. that they devs had heard him) despite being obnoxious at times. Said critic decided to purchase the current iteration of the Show and discovered that no one had in fact heard a word he said and that, all the innumerable opponents of his opinion had, in fact encouraged SCEA to leave the exact same franchise in place.
I know this guy, and he doesn't care much about the war. He purchased and played the show, but did not enjoy playing a stale, limited franchise mode. Instead he chose MLB 2k for the first time in his life and enjoyed the realism and depth of the franchise (of course, he needed to overlook some serious errors) and gameplay.
As far as NBA 2k11 being bested, I think the world will have to wait at least a year for that to happen-- 2k12. Probably longer. It's not even close. I really can't say that enough.
Respect. Sorry if I'm as obnoxious as him.

Okay...I'm all ears....
In what way does MLB2K11 have a better franchise mode than The Show?
Stale?...that sounds like a personal preference...but limited? In what way is any of the franchise modes of the games mentioned so much more elaborate than the current Show mode?
