NBA 2K11 News Post

The amount of coverage NBA 2K11 has received here at OS has reached immense levels at this point. Everyone has been so eager to hear about anything and everything related to the game, so we have tried our best to quench the thirst of all of you out there. Regardless, no matter what I write below, it won’t change the fact that the game won’t come out until tomorrow, and that is the only magic elixir that will cure the NBA 2K11 draught that is parching a large majority of users who are visiting this site today.

Nevertheless, here is one last impressions article, only this time, it’s impressions from the retail version of the game.

Chase...why are you still using directional passing? icon passing solves any problems with passes going to the wrong players. use icon passing and you'll never pass to the wrong player. There's no reason for anyone to still be using the old generic pass button. Icon passing is the way to go, and it also gives you the ability to lead receiver by lead passing.

"But a problem that sticks out immediately has to do with the win-loss records of the teams. There are not quite enough “elite” teams, and there are not quite enough terrible teams. Beyond that, the home-away records clearly show home teams have a major advantage in the simulations. As an example, the Lakers lost only one time at home in one of these simulations, but they were more than 15 games below .500 on the road. Essentially you will see the same outcomes for all the teams. The top teams will have amazing records at home and then they will be well below .500 away from home. Yes, more teams obviously win at home than on the road, but clearly the simulation engine weights home-court advantage too heavily.

This mostly ends up affecting the simulated games in the playoffs. You will see a lot of major blowouts by the home team in these games. And by “major” I mean at least 25 points. This type of issue might be seen as minor or major depending on the user, but it is present. Thankfully, it seems like most of the issues from last year’s Association mode (see: stacking five points guards on a team and so forth) have been quelled"

for me this is a major problem and 1 that i hope can be fixed via an Update...ill still be picking up the game but i think im going to hold off on starting an Association mode until i see if they're going to or can patch this or not...
---------------------------------------------------

an suggestion that i use to help toward the stories being repetitive in the commentary....

is to play a 58-game (every team 2x/yr home and away) season w/ with the full 7-game playoof series...
ill turn commentary off except on games that are played on
WED(ESPN) / THURS(TNT) / SUN)ABC)

as these are the only days that the NBA is televised on national TV, these are the only days that i have commentary turned on....factoring in that you wont play games on these nights every week in your association, you can get pretty far b4 you hear all the stories about all the teams...

obviously this doesnt apply to your own team but it does help out alot with the other teams stories
so if this makes sense to you...well there it is

Looking forward to trying out the NBA Today games but the Association and my player modes have my interest. I just hope online play is better than I read in articles before. The Jordan Challenges are going to be just that but hopefully I can just be able to enjoy playing the game and accomplish my goals and not focus on the clock trying to accomplish my goals. That shrug game is gonna be a tough one. 6 threes in 1st half and keeping Drexler below 20? (putting on my handband).

I hate to be a jerk, but if this post was by anyone else, it would have been locked for "There is already an impressions sticky."

Why the extra love for OS admin? Aren't we all equals in this world?

He's an OS Staff writer. That's why he gets his own thread.

Also, this is a front page article and not just a thread.

Thanks for this article - it was a great read.

Only one thing about the 1 year development cycle - I don't know the factors involved in game development, but I don't think that (large) ideas that originate in October (after a current version is released) get implemented in the next version that gets released the following year.

I sort of think that features are thought up well in advance and are gradually phased in as they are completed and robust enough to be released.

I for one won't start skipping the future matchup promos. I think that a cool addition that adds realism to the TV presentation.

But maybe they'll all you to turn it off in the future. Kinda like The Show's "fast presentation" option.

# 31 xavier16 @ 10/04/10 11:00 PM
I am all for as much presentation as possible. They may get repetitive, but I still think that they add a whole lot to the experience. I for one, never fast pass any presentation stuff in any games. I watch every cut scene play out. (NHL 11, MLB The Show, etc...) It takes longer, yes..but to me is part of the fun.

IT's TIME!

Thanks for the write up. The home advantage bias was evident in 2K10. Annoying but certainly no game breaker.

Thanks for a good read - more insightful than the reviews I've read so far.

Can anybody please confirm in their opinion regarding the FULL GAME, not the demo, how the graphics compare on the 360 vs the ps3? I know with the demo the 360 was far superior but I own both consoles & would like to know if there any differences & which is better. Thanx

Can anyone shed some light on when the ranked matches will be working???
I just waited 3.5 hours for a connection, finally got a laggy one then was disconnected in the first quarter... said the game will not be counted.

Seems like 2k(pick a year) all over again... but the game itself is fantastic.

LIL HELP!!

# 40 dwademvp @ 10/07/10 09:20 AM
