Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:

Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.
This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.
I like this move... now I'll probably pick it up when it comes out because right now I don't have enough $ to buy 2 basketball games and I definetely wasn't going to choose elite over the other game.... looking forward to seeing what they're working on in these extra months.
I have to disagree that this is a good decision. A week before release and they pull the carpet out from everything. That's very odd to me. At what point did they decide this? Is it because of the bad vibe the demo got? Surely the developers didn't step in and say, this shouldn't be on store shelves after the game went gold etc.
The game may be delayed but this speaks volumes about the current state of EA NBA basketball. When in 2011 is the right time to ship this? I just don't know about this and honestly think we may not see an NBA Elite. Very odd. All the money poured into ads, print, shipping etc. and they pull the plug. There must be something wrong with this game beyond what we have seen.
I agree...EA are more likely to feed us a half baked game(i mean they have been doing that for years!!) There has to be something really really big behind the scenes that they don't want to go public to do this just 1 week before release
I'm actually really frustrated about this. I pre-ordered the game months ago, and I've stuck with Elite 11 up until now, but this is crazy. I appreciate that fact that they're going back over to make the game better, but this is just a slap to the face of the people who were waiting to get the game in October.
They should have just made a quality game to begin with and then they wouldn't have to go back and delay the release. UGH. 2k Sports just got themselves another customer. I'm sorry EA, I tried. I really did.
I'm with you as well, i even started making notes from the demo on what i needed to fix when the game came out.. 2k can have my money
EA self guillotined themselves this year. This game was on pace to be slightly better than NBA Unrivaled. Hell it moved like NBA Unrivaled in some spots.

Funny how most people were saying the other NBA game was a roster update, and now it literally is this year for EA. Im sure most people are buying Live 10 used at this point. I said it a few months ago, this game could possibly be a white flag.
I think EA got scared personally. So Im not going to say smart move etc.. They were going to get killed sales wise regardless, which wouldve looked a lot worse than just delaying. Having a new name, new producer in David Littman make a game that wouldve failed all across the board if released wouldve put such a blemish on EA they probably wouldve never recovered and Elite wouldve went the way of the Dodo.
Can't say Im really suprised either, the game was brutal to play demo wise. Had Live 07 written all over it. I have a feeling theyre just going to rename Elite 11, Elite 12, no point in releasing this game later next year.

You need to understand you are in the minority. Most people really dislike what they saw big time. For every 1 person who was excited there was about a 1000 who was turned off.
make no mistake about it, the feedback by OS and other outlets, has more than likely caused this to happen. I think it's definitely the right move by EA. Simply ran out of time to do everything they wanted to. Make the right decision and just put out Elite '12 next October.
On one hand, I commend them for not stealing $60 from people for a game that's not ready.
On the other hand, they deserve all this negative attention because you had devs on here making it seem as if it was our fault the game wasn't enjoyable for us. That's horrible communication that blew up in their faces.
I'm shocked man. All this talk about control, real-time-physics, and dev interaction. The game may not have been my cup of tea, but what about the people who were actually behind the game and trying to get people to understand the ELite Experience.
I could understand an announcment a month ago or to but this close to release? And all the while people telling us how wonderful the control was. I cant really say great news or congratulations because I'm more baffeled then anything.
I hate the fact that people now are seeing EA as some kind of hero for not bringing out the game. They just tried to insult our intelligence by selling us a game they knew was bad from the start.
Now EA is acting like they are listening to us. If they did listen we would have good game now instead of a delayed and maybe even cancelled garbage
Exactly. For months this game was touted as accomplishing what no other game has ever done. In no way would I intend to be disrespectful towards the developers, and I know they don't make this call, but I don't see the positive in this.

Right, and I think we are assuming the game is being pushed up for release. We may not see this until October 2011.
now if the madden team can be honest with themselves and do the same thing.....????
I could not have said it better myself. But Madden would not do that because it is the only game in town. If EA had the exclusive rights with the NBA. Would they delay NBA Elite this year? I am a 2K fan but Live got me through the 90's. So I will always have a soft spot for the Live series. I hope EA gets it right with Elite, but who the hell knows.
I'm surprised that they did this but for the people saying they respect them now for this, you better believe that if they were certain that they would get close to whatever their sales goal was, they would've had the game out this year like it was supposed to.
Lol. EA shouldn't get props for not releasing a crappy game. The same approach needs to be given to Madden. If it ain't ready in August, it doesn't really have to be out before the start of the NFL regular season.
Excellent move by EA... I assume and expect that later we will read that the title its cancelled for this year. I believe that this will be the best action to take in order to improve the overall package.
I normally don't agree or like what EA does but this move right here deserves some applause. Instead of selling an incomplete game to the public, they decided to put extra time into its development. On top of that they will be providing updates for Live 10 throughout the season. This is a classy move that might win me over if Elite 11 or 12 shows improvement.
FYI for those who pre-ordered, you will just have to call whatever store you pre-ordered the game from and get your money back. Once a product has been recalled, stores legally can't sale a recalled product. I talked to some of my friends that are managers at Walmart and Kmart, their stores have already started repacking all their Elite games to get ready to ship it back to their warehouse. Which then will get shipped back to EA's warehouse. Which then will get recycled.
Best believe EA is paying a lot of money buying all those copies of Elite 11 back from stores.
Didn't think EA would have the balls to do this but they did. It's the right move. Good job updating Live 10 as well. That's the least they can do for whatever customers they have left.
I'm a little confused though. Are they pushing Elite 11 back to sometime in early 2011, or is Elite 11 essentially cancelled and they're just going to be working on it and releasing it as Elite 12 this time next year?
For now the game has been delayed. When additional information comes through I will let you all know.
