2K Sent us the overall ratings for every player in each team's starting five. Give the list a look through and let us know what you think! Did 2K rate your team right? Any surprises? Let us know!
Jennings has alot to prove... Turner is a freaking Rookie, he has no stats...he should not be better than a player that led his team to the playoffs and that has also scored 55 points in a game..that isnt easy...
for Jennings to be rated above a 75 his passing must be like above 90 (he isnt elite yet in that category, i can name 5 point guards that do that better) he doesn't reboung, jumpshot is streaky, strength is low, post game (none), consistency is 55 a best. Ratings build for an all around player. Evant Turner is an ALL AROUND PLAYER. u can see that in college
Ariza is too high
Joe Johnson is too high
Igoudala is too high
Bargnani is too high
Kirilenko is too low
Nowitzki is too low
Noah is too low
Nene and Kenyon Martin are both a little high
Ariza is too high
Joe is where he should be, him and Roy are basically the same overall, some feel one better than the other but in reality, they are the same.
Iggy is good
Bargs is good
AK is just right
Dirk, it depends on his attributes.
Noah is overrated in real life and just right in this game.
Those two Nuggets are just right.
So in a nutshell, Bynum shoots a better percentage from the floor and the line, has slightly fewer turnovers (1.8 to 1.9) and slightly fewer fouls (3.0 to 3.2) while Bogut played more games, had more rebounds (offensive/defensive/total, 10.2 to 8.3), more assists, more steals, more blocks, and scored more points.
I don't even see any argument for Bynum TBH. I think Bogut is arguably the second or third best center in the league behind Dwight Howard and possibly Kaman/Lopez. Bynum is maybe a top 10 center but his inconsistent effort and inability to stay healthy are two HUGE detriments.
People dont realize than the overall ratings are based on the core attributes for that position... Dirk is Low because hes a shooter... 3pt shooting is not a core PF attribute... he doesnt block shots... hes not great on the boards... hes not great in the low post.... hes not incredibly strong.
As long as he plays like he does in real life then it shouldnt matter
You do know John Wall actually has a higher vertical leap than them both right?
Rod,
My brother.
John Wall did not test the best when it comes to vertical leap. He did extremely well. But neither did Josh Smith. I don't think either of them deserves a 98. Well, I do not think Wall does for that matter. The only 99s should be NAthan Robsinson from the Celtics as well as Elliot Williams for the Blazers (48 vertical).
At the same time, we argue about which player is "more versatile" or "complete" than the other. We look at the sum of their parts to "determine" who is a superior or inferior player. That's one reason why statistics are taken and exist. Otherwise, why don't that just keep score and remove all individual statistics.
JPosey,
Yes, you are correct. We do argue which player is a more versatile thret. You are very correct. But since NBA 2K9, 2K has given us the luxury of seeing letter grades for a number of core categories. If I am not mistaken, if you press in the Left Thumb Nimble on the controller, if brings up grades and not numbers.
I prefer this system. It tells me what I need to know. You can view the grades to see how versatile a player is. You do not need the assistance of an overall rating to make that conclusion.
As I mentioned to Brother Jeebs in a previous post, when scouting a player, you discuss each group of skills he has or doesn't have. You do not give that player an overall grade/scout.
I feel it should be the same way here. Here is an example of Football Manager which is one of the leading simulation sports titles out there. Notice how there is not an overall rating but from viewing the chart, you can clearly see what he does well and poorly.
I know as a rookie he didnt make much noise last season because we lost all the time. But jrue holiday a 70? really? after all the games i watched last season he was the best player on the court. he outplayed iggy in just about every single game. im not saying he should be an 85 with ig but a 75 wouldnt be wrong. but a 70 is.
This thread is like 27 pages of people going in circles
Person A: "mann my boi d rose rated 2 low.. why he lower den d howard???"
Person B names 5+ players who's ratings are too low..
Person C: "Guys.. Center's have different core ratings than Point Guards.. why does everyone keep comparing different positions??"
Then Person D comes in and assumes the role of Person A.
I'd like to see someone take count of how many times that has happened in this thread.. It's just going in circles over and over..

Man i'm tellin you it just ain't right playa. Ma boi Bob McAdoo rated lower den Carmelo Anthony. Sumtin aint right at 2K, McAdoo at least a 95. dey crazi man! Go Braves!
In all seriousness though, this thread is just the devil in disguise. We're getting nowhere and going in circles like you said. Only a handful of people understand overall ratings aren't the whole picture.
If their player isn't in the upper echelon of talent, something's wrong. Even though that player will probably still play like they do IRL, they don't care about individual ratings, they want that big number to be in the high 80's to 90's.
The overall rating has driven people insane, a mass majority don't understand how ratings work, and it's because of that overall number. It's ridiculous.
98% of these ratings are identical as their June 2k10 update (+/- 1)... happy to see them spend some money and time developing and improving their ratings.
