Don’t Just Play as Mike, Become Him in NBA® 2K11

2K Sports today revealed The Jordan Challenge, a new game mode for the latest iteration of the top rated and top selling basketball simulation franchise*, NBA® 2K11. This new mode will allow players to relive 10 different legendary games from Michael Jordan’s illustrious career and challenge them to replicate what he did on the court in NBA 2K11.

“Fans of the series are going to be thrilled to know that in NBA 2K11 Michael Jordan is much, much more than just a cover athlete,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We’re excited to start talking about the ways that Michael will be used in the game and there’s still a lot more to come.”

While playing The Jordan Challenge, fans can try to stun the world in Jordan’s self-described greatest game by torching the Cavaliers by 69 points in March of 1990; attempt to battle back from the flu to defeat the Jazz in Game 6 of the 1997 finals; or leave the world wanting more as they relive one of Jordan’s finest performances during his last game as a Chicago Bull on June 14, 1998. In addition to The Jordan Challenge mode, gamers will have the unique opportunity to play as some of the greatest teams in NBA history, including the ‘85-’86, ’89-’90, ’90-’91, ’94-’95, ’95-’96, ’96-’97, and ’97-’98 Chicago Bulls.

NBA 2K11 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available October 5, 2010. For more information, please visit www.2ksports.com/nba2k11.

I know it sounds dorky but I can't wait to hit 3 pointers with Paxson, LOL

It will be neat to see the different vinyl playoff and finals logos in each challenge.

For me, even more important about a classic Jordan game is the MUSIC. It would be a shame if 2K didn't pay for the rights to use Rock And Roll Part 1 & 2. You couldn't watch a Bulls playoff game for an entire decade without hearing that song at EVERY pivotal moment.

True. It would just be nice to have it triggered at the specific animations like when he shrugs after the 6th 3-pointer and so on.....

ESPN article, not sure if it was posted...

Because negotiations with certain retired players are ongoing, Argent wouldn't give any specific names. However, he insisted that the company that once tracked down 200-plus retired football players -- everyone from Barry Sanders to Bubby Brister -- to appear in "All-Pro Football 2K8" had done its homework.

"We chased down the players we had to have," Argent said. "We have the full starting teams in the game. Most of the bench players. The goal is to have them all. It's been all hands on deck."

In a nod to authenticity, player models will sport shorter shorts than their contemporary counterparts. Moreover, Jordan's player model and in-game ratings will change in accordance with the particular playable moment -- over time, he'll become more muscular, with less hair -- while accomplishing certain game play goals, such as making six first-half three-pointers against Portland, will trigger signature animations like Jordan's famous "shrug."

Pleasantly surprised by this. Ronnie actually was right about news being exciting for once. I hope each version of MJ will actually look slightly different (Ex: 80's mj had hair)

Exactly... all it's going to take is that first MJ commerical with him in 2k to skyrocket sales. I showed 2 of my friends this news (who usually just come over and play the copy I buy around playoff time) and they're preordering it today. This game is going to sell like hotcakes to the casual gamer over the age of 22 (or whatever age was fortunate enough to see his games).

Great article. Thanks for posting.

Short shorts definitely make the old school games feel more old school.

I am one of them, not really a fan of todays NBA but LOVED it as a kid in the 90s, if they got some of the other players (ie Pippen, Malone, Barkley), i would be in heaven, and I know someone mentioned if before but this game needs intros! "From North....Carolina, 6'6" MICHAEL JORDAN! The Bulls are coached by Phil Jackson"

Any word if they'll have the Pink Floyd introduction for the Bulls players when they run out??

# 78 youvalss @ 07/22/10 05:26 PM
This is where we need to stop and tell ourselves: "This is just a video game".

# 79 23 @ 07/22/10 05:29 PM
If they have Cartwrights crooked jumper then I dont know what to do

# 80 coolio83 @ 07/22/10 05:29 PM
If Jack Haley is not on the bench as part of the 95-96 team, SO not buying this game!
