Don’t Just Play as Mike, Become Him in NBA® 2K11

2K Sports today revealed The Jordan Challenge, a new game mode for the latest iteration of the top rated and top selling basketball simulation franchise*, NBA® 2K11. This new mode will allow players to relive 10 different legendary games from Michael Jordan’s illustrious career and challenge them to replicate what he did on the court in NBA 2K11.

“Fans of the series are going to be thrilled to know that in NBA 2K11 Michael Jordan is much, much more than just a cover athlete,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We’re excited to start talking about the ways that Michael will be used in the game and there’s still a lot more to come.”

While playing The Jordan Challenge, fans can try to stun the world in Jordan’s self-described greatest game by torching the Cavaliers by 69 points in March of 1990; attempt to battle back from the flu to defeat the Jazz in Game 6 of the 1997 finals; or leave the world wanting more as they relive one of Jordan’s finest performances during his last game as a Chicago Bull on June 14, 1998. In addition to The Jordan Challenge mode, gamers will have the unique opportunity to play as some of the greatest teams in NBA history, including the ‘85-’86, ’89-’90, ’90-’91, ’94-’95, ’95-’96, ’96-’97, and ’97-’98 Chicago Bulls.

NBA 2K11 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available October 5, 2010. For more information, please visit www.2ksports.com/nba2k11.

The best part of the midnight madness of previous years is that when Wal-mart ran out of the 2K case there was always a few stacks of Live sitting there. It was always priceless to see the gamers grimace and walk away when the smiley 17 year old girl employee would say "But we also have this basketball game here."

Just kidding. Well...kinda just kidding. Get it right 2K!

LMFAO!!!!!

Yeah I guess that's what we can chalk it up as. I've lived in the Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor areas for most of the last decade and I've busted out on opening day and headed into the city out of fear that I'd arrive too late. Alas, there's always a billion copies available when I get there. It's a lot of fun though. I like treating it like it's a big deal; sort of like an early Christmas.

If they show some good gameplay news plus this, I think it'll be the first basketball game I ever preordered..

Are you kidding? Do you know how many Jordan fans who have never even bought a bball video game before will buy this game and ONLY play the Jordan challenge - won't even touch combine, association, online play, etc. It's going to be countless people.

I posted this on Facebook and already personally know three of them.

I have never seen him play in a Bulls uniform so this will be nice to play with him. And I hope the teams are included in exhibition so that I can try to beat the MJ Bulls with the Miami Thrice

I can get you TONS of old (80's & 90's) MJ as a Bull games. If you want, PM me.

To me it's like a teenager dream come true. Always wanted to play as him, classic Bulls teams and hear the commentators pronounce his name. Greatest basketball video games news ever imo. Then you got Pip, Dennis a co.

As time went on I thought the odds of this actually coming to fruition was nill. I thought MJ might come out with a game. But it wouldn't have the NBA license, it would be some one-on-one or dunk thing. But this is pretty much all you could ask for.

All of these people saying "It's no big deal, talk more about Combine." WTF

Lol yea that would be cool. But it's not the same!! I mean I never got to see him live, in his prime. Of course I've seen highlights. But I think I saw him when he played with the Wizards. When I was younger I did reverse dunks on my mini hoop and called it "The Michael Jordan Dunk". Lol those were the days. But now, I can control him!! YES!!!

This has come up a couple of times, so let me clear the AIR (no pun intended):

If NBA 2K11 has MJ's 69 point regular season game against Cleveland, that is NOT the game where he hit "The Shot." "The Shot" was a playoff game.

Yeah, I'd be curious as to why they'd have one but not the other (unless the developers felt that having two Cavs teams in subsequent years would be redundant).
