NBA Elite 11 News Post

Please welcome Da_Czar to the Operation Sports staff. He will be giving us exclusive videos and content in the very near future. Here is his first piece.

----------------------------------------------

What's happening family? It's your friendly neighborhood Czar coming at you from New York City. EA invited Czar out to the Change the Game event at the Cellar Bar in the Bryant Park Hotel. At this event, the NBA was well represented by the the new cover athlete Kevin Durant, as well as Steph Curry, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.

With an open bar and 9th Wonder on the turntables, the mood could not have been better for a video game enthusiast to get a first look at NBA Elite 11. In a show of raw professionalism and sheer strength of will, Czar avoided the bar until both NBA Jam and NBA Elite 11 could be properly examined.

Another great writeup, Czar! I was wondering if you have an option to switch back to the old controls from Live 10 with buttons to shoot and defend with as opposed to the analogs? I wouldn't mind learning the new controls but some players want a choice.

First off Welcome to OS ruggedrum !!! That is another good question. In the half court I didn't really notice it missing. Things seemed to happen as one might expect but please consider that we were simply playing one on one or just kind of shooting around for the most part.

I think if anything the need for turbo may show up in the transition game.

The offense did explode well from triple threat so you didn't miss any explosion there. If anything the game speed could use a bit of toning down in my opinion as the players moved a little fast. I didn't use the quick shuffle often enough to notice if its speed matched well against the offensive players explosion.

Changing speeds in basketball is important so I am watching this implementation very carefully. So even though I didn't notice it not sure that's a control I want left up to the cpu to determine for me. So if I'm not in triple threat I may want to explode quickly to force the defense back to open space for the jumper. How will the game know that is what I'm doing ? So again that should be interesting.

As for the dunks they looked really good. I didn't pay explicit attention to each one or really notice how many I witnessed. I know bron had a few vicious ones that had my face cringed up like Ohhhh. But they were appropriate for the situation and looked very smooth animation wise.

I have heard the dev's say a few times that all the animations are not all in the game just yet. So we may have to wait for the demo to get a good feel for dunk variety.

Don't know if you can go into too much detail about this Czar but defensively how did the game feel?

Was easier to body up with Lebron then it was with Durant? Did the controls feel intuitive or cumbersome when you were trying to stay in front of your man?

That's something I find really weird! You have an analog left stick that already controls some speed, so why not just put the full range of speed on that stick if you're not gonna use a turbo button? I thought the idea this year is to make the user control everything!

Congrats on the promotion Czar, well deserved. Glad you got your hands on the game, like some of us already, are your fears a little less than a few weeks ago?

You was in NYC man...I could've recommended some good...err...nevermind.

Glad to hear some true input...especially from someone who just wants to see a good product out there. Any plans to go up to EA when they're further along in the dev. cycle like last year? The community needs you!

And I second stumbleweed's notion that you need to be a writer here on OS...long overdue.

Great write up Czar!!! That's basically more in depth that I went where you hit all points on it!

Haha in a word YES ! What I really, really respect about the EA Squad though it this. They didn't approach me like I was WAY off base. The actually understood where I was coming from considering recent history. That more than anything speaks volumes to their understanding of where they are at and where they need to go.

When a company has that to me that is the best you can ask for. Understanding why it is we may not 1000 % trust you and then working hard and transparently to rectify that.

I still have some smaller concerns here and there but Santos and Brent spent good amount of time with me candidly answering my questions. To those that may not know it they take OS feedback quite seriously. Just look at how many guys from OS were at the community day event in comparision with other sites. In fact not everyone who was invited was able to make it.

Then look at the lineup Hoosier, Sovartus, DC, Pared... Shhhh these aren't people known for their timidness, or their ability to be influenced. HAHAHA.

Most will be relieved to know that the reason they felt it was a good time to make this move was BECAUSE of the AI development of live 10. So now they plan to build on top of that and stop resetting the dang franchise every year.

In essence this was a necessary step for Elite to actually do what we have requested .... build on what you have.

Now I am just waiting like everyone else to see if they can translate this into good 5 on 5 basketball !

BIGEAST !!! Thank you fam ! Much appreciated. I am not sure man. I would love to get back up there and spend some quality time with it so hopefully we can work something out. I know they are working hard on it so the time may not be available on their side.

Earl there wasn't one that I noticed. Now that could be because it is not in there or because I wasn't gentle with the left stick. Not sure which but I don't recall seeing one.

Maybe it seems a lil dated...but I think they should bring back the hot/cold meter..bcuz believe it or not, that's really a great thing.players should need to get warmed up to shoot anywhere close to 100%...and I think that should be influenced by how many good, quality looks a player gets.

to me,this is part of the strategy in a bball game.u have to make the extra pass and manage your offensive touches, making sure you're getting good looks at the basket, and getting everyone involved,to get them warm,so to speak.this will also help against cheesers who wanna just use kobe or lebron and shoot every shot.their teammates will all be cold, not in tune with the game bcuz they're not involved.which brings me to an effort level stat.this should be in the game bcuz you should have to manage this as well(maybe they can add a toggle on/off for ppl who think this is too sim).if you don't get your other players involved, they can go cold and become ineffective, slower on defensive rotations, not getting back on d,etc.if these things get incorporated it will effectively erase cheesers from ranked matches.
So to sum it up,they should include a warm-up meter, doesn't matter if its visible or not.players need to see the ball go in,when they do,their confidence rises and they get rolling, some players are bottleable, others not so much.give a player some open looks, and he may just start to feel it.or play good defense on a player for a half or so,take him out of his game, then watch when you give him a couple good looks, and he finishes the game strong.just so many possibilities.what do you guys think??

Good feedback, Czar. I definitely hope this pans out with the 5 on 5 cuz I definitely thought about that yesterday morning.

What's up Czar? I can honestly say that I am actually excited for at least one EA Sports title this year. That is NBA Elite 11. I almost got excited for NCAA 11, but I had to pass.

Now, from many years of experience with video games, about a year with FNR4, and now a few weeks experience with Backbreaker, I can say that physics is definitely the way to go. And giving us more control over dribbling, shooting, passing, running, and hopefully dunking will put this game on top of the NBA 2k series. I am a 2k fan, but I used to be an avid NBA Live fan.

On to my question. Are there any plans to go to a variable, real-time acceleration system or are we going to be stuck with a stop and sprint system seen from in the 7 minute NBA Elite 11 video. The reason I ask is since I have been playing Backbreaker, I have notice that all the players accelerate realistically. I would like to see that in a basketball game for once.

Good idea overall, but I think the User controlled shooting will take care of that since each player has different timing and release points. If you're doing nothing but chucking up shots with Lebron, then your timing will probably be off with the other players.

I think that having full control of everything is great, but there is no reason for guys like Shaq being able to shoot 17 foot jump shots. Hopefully, they will account for everyones shooting tendencies and accuracy. I'm almost sold this year. I skipped last year, but bought NBA Live 09.

One big problem I see already is Lebron stopping on dime and taking off like a rocket. Hopefully, this will be a mix of mocap and physics, not locomotion. We should be able to speed up variably by moving the left stick in a forward left/right direction.

valid concerns. But if the USER wants to not play realistically and shoot 17-footers with Shaq, then so be it. I'm sure it will be extremely difficult and he might make 1 out of 30. If he perfects it and starts draining and likes to cheese, then I will gladly not play with him.

I think they've already added,or plan to add shooting ranges for everyone in the game,so that shooting percentages drop off a cliff when you move outside they're range.not impossible to make, but like a 5% or less chance.
As far as my ideas in the previous post,I was just trying to figure a way to make myself have to worry about the same things I have to worry about when I'm playing in real life.making the extra pass, getting everyone involved,so that they stay in tune in the game.sometimes it doesn't matter, bcuz the player is on fire and he's carrying the team.but this doesn't. Ever happen for more than maybe a quarter or two.and it has only happened once for a whole game, and that's when kobe scored 81.which won't ever happen again...
So if we have a star player,it would be cool to manage when, and where we begin to take over the game.REALLY COOL actually, now that I think of it...or maybe we don't take over the game and we allow the team to carry us thru.
Overall, its a thin line that teams have to balance, and it makes having a star player both a good thing and a bad thing,if you don't know how to use them the right way, then it will be to ur detriment.ala kobe against the suns a few yrs back when he drop 51 on raja bell in the playoffs I think in '06 gm 5 first round, but they lost. Brilliant performance, but obviously not the team game they needed to win.
Imo, the same should exist in the game to an extent.
If everyone is involved, then they will be quicker to loose balls, better rebounders, better shooters,no missed or slow rotations on d,or not getting back quick enough.y?becaus e they will feel into the game, like their input matters.I don't think the shooting alone will take care of this...

If they make this pay off, this will revolutionize basketball gaming 4ever. If they botch this, it may turn alot of gamers away from EA basketball 4 sometime. Hit or miss time any1?

When Czar speaks, I listen. However I do not trust EA. I want to like this game, and I want to want to buy it. But I am waiting for all of the smoke to clear, and the dust to settle before I make any decisions. I will not be fooled by EA's promises again.
