NBA 2K11 News Post

It looks like the rumors were true. Michael Jordan is your cover athlete for NBA 2K11.

"Michael Jordan might be retired, but he’s still the most powerful force in the basketball marketing world. He has proved that in the shoe business and now he’ll get his chance on a video game cover.

Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, confirmed to CNBC.com that the Charlotte Bobcats owner will appear on the cover of NBA 2K11, which will hit stores on Oct. 5."

The two games are competitive in nature, so that's there, but having Jordan is such a positive. It just cancels out anything else.

Michael Jordan....how do you even respond to that?
Having great game play..

Is it 1992 again?

I wasnt gonna buy this game on release day this year...

but me not getting this game on release day is like skipping on a pair of MJ's....

Not really. The reality of having Jordan on the cover pushes the game levels above any competition. This is speaking purely in terms of marketing. You have two mainstream games, Elite and 2K. One is boasting new game mechanics with no history but what was Live. The other has the popularity of 2K Basketball and then Jordan on the cover.

Think about the first trailer for NBA 2K11 and the hype it will create. Again, this is just from a marketing standpoint, but 2K Basketball is already proven. It's a solid game and consumers know that. I happened to enjoy the last two years of Live, but when you consider the games past struggles to compete with 2K, changing the name to Elite and claiming a new game engine is going to offer very little in comparison to MJ.

This right here really does not even qualify for breaking news...We heard that before...

Love the choice, it goes without saying that some sales will be affected because of Jordan. Better question, who do you choose for the cover for NBA2k12?

# 51 wrestlinggod1 @ 06/02/10 07:01 PM
No, that's not a better question.

Think that last time I bought an NBA 2K game was 2K7. Sounds like I might be getting it this year.

I haven't really paid any attention to next years game.....

But is that the actual player model for NBA 2K11 and if so is this game going to have Classic teams next year since Jordan is gracing the cover?

Sorry if this has been asked before I didn't read all of the tread.

That picture looks amazing by the way if that is the actual player in the game

I can see the commercial now. Jordan is at a press conference announcing he coming out of retirement. A reporter asks him, "Do you think you've still got the skills?" Jordan replies "Yeah, I still got it. And I've been practicing against the best". Then the screen behind him shows clips of the virtual Jordan, playing against Kobe, LeBron, D. Wade, Durant, and Melo. And then Jordan says "I'm a free agent, who want to sign me?"

Then they could announce, preorder 2K11 and get a Jordan Shoe code. Unlocking every pair of Jordans.

That would be sweet.

It's probably 2K10 or 2K9. That's one of Matt's great videos. It's photoshoped here and there as well. it's not a 2K11 image.

Oh ok.....

That picture looked damn realistic to me. I was hoping that would be the player model in 2K11 for Jordan

Couldn't care less who's on the cover. Improve the game and I'll purchase day of release.

Jordan fanboys today are almost as annoying as Jordan fanboys back in the day! Never thought that would happen.

good news i guess.. my mind now turns to how he will be utilized? Will there be some true meat and potatoes to having him and others? street mode? other classic players? I guess its natural to take in this great news and begin to question.

this is definitely a big move
