Every rookie is being rated really high, and the fans are voting them even higher.

These ratings are going to suck.

No player is even getting voted down, kinda dumb how everyone is jacking up everybodys ratings.

I do like the old school Seahawks logo they have on their page, I LOVE that logo.

Interesting that the first round seems to be more highly rated than the custom draft classes created for last year's game. It was pretty hard to come out of the end of the 1st with a guy rated 80 OVR, at least in the OF.

Keep hating on Tebow!!

the one guy on this draft you really can't bet against!

# 45 trick02 @ 04/22/10 10:30 PM
You guys have to remember over all ratings mean jack **** because of all the pointless numbers that get thrown into each player along with the 4 or 5 that matter.

Mathews may only be a 77 but he has a trucking of 88, Stiff arm of 92 and Speed is 92. The guy is a power house and will be just fine.

# 46 kcarr @ 04/22/10 11:15 PM
so we made it through the entire 1st round without the fans voting for a single individual rating being lower than what donnie originally had them

Not true. I had several guys lower than what Donny had them. Bradford being the lowest. I had him at 76, but would preferably have had him at 74.

I think he's talking the average of fans votes overall. I'm sure several people here lowered ratings. I lowered several ratings myself (some by as many points as they'd let me...there was a limit) yet the average of fans' choices was still higher than the base ratings Donny had.

Their fans, what do you expect? Of course they wanna jack up the player their team just drafted. Why not?

Also does anyone know If there will be any rookie screen shots? I'll be kinda disappointed if there aren't any. Chargers definitely went after the guy wanted, hopefully he pans out. I thought Houston was going to snatch this guy up but, with so many trades my mock draft was all jacked up.

Welcome to SD Matthews.

Ratings seem pretty high, but I think this happens every year with rookies. Especially with the stretched ratings now, and most of these guys will have "A" potential, we're looking at a lot of high 90s 2 years in.

I know Suh is awesome, but I'd rather see him start a bit lower and just progress really well since DT is a tough position to step into in the NFL. Start him at 78 the first year then have him progress to 86-87. Same with Bradford--how many rookie QBs perform like 80s their first year? Sanchez and Stafford definitely didn't. Matt Ryan performed 80ish his first year but he was very well protected with the running game.

community? hah

i'd say that most of the votes were people inflating their own team's picks so that they have a better madden team. its madden 07 all over again

Tebow with 89 throw power? more like 82 tops Look I like the guy, hope he makes it cuz he seems like a good overall person but his arm is jello, no zip, poor mechanics, and one long time scout said his pro day was the worst QB pro day he had ever seen.

Maybe his mechanics can be fixed and he is certainly the type of leader you look for but until he proves he can throw a 12 yard out - I wouldn't want him on my team at QB!
Well I think Coach McDaniels saw a high-character guy that could develop into a great(or at least good) PASSER in the NFL, kind of like how McNabb has changed over the years. I mean look at what he did with Kyle Orton, he changed him from a scrub with a piss-weak arm, into less of a scrub, who for the first half(+/- a few games) of the season threw zero picks to anyone except Randy Moss. As a fan do I think 25 was the right place to get him? Kind of. They obviously saw something that they really liked in Tim that was worth three draft picks, and they didn't want to chance the Bills getting him. Kyle Orton is not going to win any superbowls and neither is Brady Quinn, in my opinion.

96 speed for demaryius thomas. LOL what a joke. according to EA, thomas is faster than both spiller and jahvid best. LOL what a joke, thomas should be a 92 at the highest

Also, I do not think overall ratings should be judged on a scale that goes above 100 like they currently are. I feel that ratings should go up to 100 just because from a computing standpoint that makes more sense but I also feel that to get a 100 overall a player should need a 100 in each rating applicable to his position or atleast enough that when weighted by importance of the rating it averages out to above a 99.5. Such an overall scale would really allow differentiation of the players and then if it was truly represented on the field it would make a much better overall game.
this is probably the best made point in this thread! and i completely agree

Before we really talk about the ratings being to high or low or whatever, can we get a list of what the actual ratings do. I mean is the AWR rating used for anything other than the QB? If so what does it do? If not, why is it still tied to the overall rating? What's the difference between RBK and RBF/RBS? Which one is being used? I think we need to understand what the ratings do before we can accurately rate players.

# 59 sniperhare @ 04/23/10 04:19 PM
Awareness is only used to lower OVR ratings as far as I can tell.

Here's an old breakdown from NCAA Strategies. I'd assume the ratings work the same for Madden:

So, let me try to answer some of the questions I’ve seen. As always, if I am not as sure if I can say something, I am going to err on the side of caution and not say it.

Earlier I mentioned RBK and PBK (Run Block and Pass Block) were used more for the sim logic. I looked a little more into it and even though they are more used in Sim logic, they are also used in game. So, to clear it up, RBK and PBK are used to help get into position to block and how long the block will be held. RBS, RBF, PBS, PBF are used to determine if a move [Footwork vs. FMV / Strength vs. PMV] by the defender will be successful.

Next, the Question I got on the Block Shedding rating. Is it used for blocks on the line or in the open field? The answer is BOTH. It is a factor in normal run and pass blocks. Also, it is used to determine if there will be a successful impact or cut block. It also affects how the defender will disengage.

Next question was about whether it is better to have a guy with good Footwork or Strength when looking for offensive linemen. Should you go for a guy that might be high in one and low in the other, or somebody that is even. The answer depends on who you are playing against. What rating used in a block attempt (Strength or Footwork) is determined by the defender. If the defender is using a Power Move, it will use the PBS, and RBS. If the defender is using a Finesse move, it will use PBF, and RBF. Since most people like to put speed guys on the outside or put linebackers in at end, I would probably go with linemen with higher footwork myself.

As for how it all works together, I really can’t say. It’s partially that I am not completely sure. The other part, is that it is all VERY tunable. Our gameplay guys are able tune the game so that different combinations can provide different results, to try to get it to work the best way possible.

I’ll leave off with a tip about looking at individual ratings. The jump from 89 to 90 for a rating is the most significant jump you can get. It is usually at this point that the elite version of the animations become available. For example, there is not much difference between a HB with Elusiveness 88 and 89. But, once the Elusiveness rating gets to 90, the HB will have access to more of the elite elusive animations for breaking tackles.
