NCAA Football 11 News Post

EA has just posted another NCAA Football 11 blog. Jean Adams, the Art Director talks about a couple of graphic improvements; the first being linear lighting.

Quote:
"Without getting too much into the art/technical details, we wanted to talk about a couple of graphic improvements; the first being linear lighting. This lighting technique allows us to more accurately control the material properties of everything that makes up the player. To put it in basic terms, we now have control over how bright or dark things get without losing detail. It also helps us get the authentic color on the uniforms.

Linear lighting also allows us to tune helmets, jerseys, and other player gear in a much more realistic way. For example; you’ll notice the skin looks more lifelike and less like plastic. Helmets and jerseys reflect the right amount of light. Colors are less saturated and react to lighting in a more realistic way. You might remember looking at previous versions of NCAA Football and feeling like things were too saturated and flat. We think we’ve addressed these issues thanks to this new level of control."

The difference is night and day. There is as huge difference between 10 and 11. Way more than 09 to 10.

Even more of a difference from 07 to 10.

I agree. The player models definitely look more realistic for some reason.

Looks fantastic.

I've never had a problem with the way the game LOOKS.

The orange + blue lighting in football games seems to look the best. If only NCAA's gameplay matched the graphics. *sigh*

there is no way in hell that for one minute I will believe these shots are real/in game.

EA has done every year, throw these pics at us and then when the game comes out the graphics look nothing like these early screens.

If real, screen looks great.

i still hate how enormous the players arms are. i feel like they're too long and too enormous. that picture of the DT (or whatever position he is) is insane. that guy is a frickin body builder. look at suh or mccoy from this year. they're not that sculpted, yet they're easily the top prospects. they have muscle, sure, but they're not chiseled out of stone. that's always been an issue for me.

however, the screens are very impressive. and to the dude above who said they're not in game, are you serious? they definitely are. they could produce much higher quality if they wanted to. they may be slightly altered, but that's probably just to enhance the quality of the photo. give it a rest, ea *****.

These screenshots look great. But gameplay is still where it's at.

Man, am I the only one who doesn't notice much of a difference? This close up shot is taken from a replay...I really doubt you'll be able to tell the difference from the gameplay camera.

I know its not all about graphics, but with a game looking this nice, you can easily overlook some of the core deficiencies. Kinda like dating a supermodel.
I can't tell if you're being serious or facetious.

Well now we all know it looks like Tarzan, but does it still play like Jane?

This is the big quesiton that remains to be seen. They can dress it up all they want but without momementum, physics and better animations, it's garbage...

I'm pulling for you EA, bring the noise. PLEASE!

I think we all need to gather our funds together and donate some money to pay for lasic eye surgery for some of you OS'ers on here. How in the hell can you look at that picture and say it looks REMOTELY close to last year's? Last year's looked god AWFUL...all the players looked lanky and robotic...on these screens, you can actually see muscle tone and musce thickness...and the jerseys are all shaped more like today's jerseys...and the size differences are very welcomed. I think it looks fabulous. The main difference, IMO, is the colors. Look at the helmets in the comparison pic. In '10...Texas' helmets are grey and in 11 they are pristine white. The OH State helmets looks like it has the metallic flake and sheen to it like real life. Great job EA, looks like we might be getting what we've all been waiting for this year!

I would like to see the same difference in gameplay and it's gonna be a whole new ball game.

Just looking at the comparisons I dont see how people cant see the difference in lighting of the Texas jersey. I am also they threw in "dont worry we know gameplay comes 1st" at the end to shut up all of those act like EA only cares about looks. I can see an huge difference in the direction ea are going in this year than last. July cant come fast enough.
