MLB 2K10 News Post

I'm debuting a new review format I'm going to use going forward with my blog and the first game up is MLB 2K10. Just keep in mind a couple of things: First, this is a supplement to OS' Official Reviews which will be their usual deep and informative selves. Second, our guys didn't get early copies of the baseball games so look for our official baseball game reviews to be coming later in the week. Caley Roark has MLB 2K10 covered while Christian McLeod is all over MLB '10: The Show!

Quote:
"MLB 2K9 was bad. Atrociously bad. It was a half star to a one star on my ratings scale.

MLB 2K10 on the other hand, is everything MLB 2K9 wasn't. It is relatively bug free, it plays decent and while there are nagging issues which a patch will have to take care of, the game is by and large respectable and a huge improvement over last year's title.

The first thing you notice when you hop into MLB 2K10 is that it does everything a lot better than last year. The execution and the flow of the game, much less the looks, are much better than last year's game. The AI is smarter, the game plays more like baseball, and I totally dig the pitching/hitting system."

No one got an early copy due to the $1 million dollar contest. Forum moderators typically get the games early, and we couldn't get it early either.

I never liked the 5 star rating scale. This game gets a 3/5. Does that mean it would only get a 6/10 on a ten point rating scale? It just doesn't seem to translate to a 10 point rating scale.

5 star rating scales are simple IMHO. Here's how mine translates:

5 - excellent
4 - good
3 - solid
2 - mediocre
1 - bad

Chris as always a very fair review IMO

Good review chris. One thing I dont agree is hitting is very challenging. I play on All star and I am having a tough time hitting and I have bought the 2k series every year. Maybe its the new camera angle. But I am torn. I love the new camera angle because I can now take pitches but it makes hitting harder.

I wish gaming sites would just do away with the number system altogether.

They should have four categories...a must own, favorable, unfavorable, and unsastifactory.

So you're just replacing the numbers with words?

If that's how you want to look at it....yes. Numbers leave too much interpretation. Is a 3/5 really a 60/100? What does 3/5 even mean?

That's why I hate sports game reviews. The reviewers tell people to read the content of reviews....but then splash up the huge number at the top of it. It would do OS some good to get away from that.

Wow. A 60%? lol I love The Show just about as much as anybody, but with the turn-around that 2K made and the effort they put in the game, it definitely deserves a 4 out of 5.

Yep, been arguing it for years

You can't equate a 5 star rating scale to numbers...so 3 stars is not 60%.

I never really got why people always thought 60% was bad anyways, except they made game grades to be like school grades, so anything less than 60 is failing...but that's another story for another day

3-Stars is a middle of the road type of game, it's neither great nor is it bad. Never known why the 5 star concept was THAT hard to grasp.

# 13 GrandMaster B @ 03/03/10 02:18 PM
Well, it's simple math. lol I get the non-math concept, but I look at it both ways. That being said, maybe 2K could of gotten a 3.5 stars from you.

# 14 Bob Digital @ 03/03/10 02:53 PM
simple math would also dictate his 3 outta 5 stars says the game is above average though because average would be 2.5 stars.

# 15 econoodle @ 03/06/10 12:28 AM
my math is simple: OS reviews + Any Sports game= 5 stars
