It is soo funny to play people who try to use their cheeseball tactics while controlling low 60s-rated quarterbacks. That 20-yard drop back and WR screen isn't gonna work dude!

Thanks man.

Just played this dude who onside kicked constantly. I know there are some legit players out there somewhere.

I know right. I kind of like it for that reason alone.

I am playing my franchise right now but plan on looking into this for sure tomorrow. I don't play online for a few reasons. One I really suck anyway so I am not fun to play against, but with this mode I would be willing to play with people from here looking for others that aren't buying packs. I am on 360 for all sports games (PS3 for baseball though) and my tag is the same as my name here. So if you aren't worried about playing a crappy player even if he has good players let me know.

I think this game mode is tailored for online play. It isn't fun to get killed by the CPU when you have an all bronze team. If you can find some good people then it is pretty good.

Keep in mind too that if you are just into the collecting, you don't even have to play Ultimate Team against other people. You can just play against whatever AI team you want.

I managed to beat the Steelers and Rams so far with my all bronze team on All Madden.

Stephen McGee as my QB, Colt Brennan as a back up QB.

As a FIFA ultimate team nut, I feel a little aggrieved as many of the worries I had coming into the Madden version were realised.

For a start, the new identity you are supposed to forge out of your team becomes non-existent with the proscriptive choices of kits. You can't seem to mix and match pants and tops, and each kit MUST have its real life logo too. I'm guessing this is an NFL thing and not EA being short sighted, but the fact whatever you call your team doesn't even show up on a chunk of the stat overlays (I get Redskins) takes you out of it too. It feels like X NFL team but weird, instead of your very own team.

The complete lack of tournaments makes it almost redundant as a mode too. You can only play exhibition games, and if the key is to get to the top of the leaderboard, then you know some 14 year old stat boosters are going to beat you to it.

As for building the best team, EA have seemingly sacrificed the game it could be to make some extra money through microtransactions (which FIFA did to nearly the same degree). However, when last time you had only 11-16 players to keep in contract as opposed to 50+ this time, and the points earning is much slower, and teams are already sporting Packers Favres and lots of gold players...you get the impression that you have to pay for at least one platinum pack (only a minimum of 15 games to earn one, of course, all the while not spending a single token on keeping any of your players playing for you) to remain competitive.

If it offered more as a mode, it might be worth devoting time to it. But it feels so empty and so obviously bent towards buying a few packs to survive let alone compete, it's a bit of a damp squib.

The leaderboard is only your friends too. You can't see overall leaders.

Yeah, it seems to be a lot harder to grind out some coins. 1500 for a silver pack. For me that would take close to 5 games maybe more. I really wish there was a subdivision for "Coin Only" players. No fun playing against some little kid who has been buying platinum packs all day.

It takes me about the same. Or I could just pay 40p (70 cents? under 100 gamer points?) to buy a pack, which is peanuts.

Including "coin only" would be ideal, and your team would be "coin only" if no cards in your deck were bought (little coin symbol in corner to show you which is which?). But that kind of destroys the point of the content - a way to get some extra money from this year's Madden franchise, in the same way not allowing you to edit franchise stats was so you may buy the accelerators. That's not bashing them, BTW, just saying sometimes business plans can hold back products.

On a positive note, two bronze teams against each other, just like two bronze teams on FIFA, is some of the best fun I've had out of Madden. Game problems aside, you get the feeling these matchups are how some people would prefer the top teams to play in the proper game - QB mistakes, sacks and a real need to understand what each player does well.

is there a way to change your teams jersey? i don't want the stinkin' chiefs!

Over all impressions so far 2 games in are good.

its more fun IMO playing this online then regular ranked matches.

**edit** the ability to buy coins for a feature like this does taint it tho. people should have to earn their teams.

This is a joke. My players are so bad I can't beat the CPU. And when I'm heavily beating someone that just lose their connect which results in no coins and my players lose a contract game. Lose, Lose.

If you are only concerned about winning something than you are right but I think the majority of players play online for the fun and enjoyment. Now add a card collecting experience and fantasy team management and it gets even more interesting.

Don't let those "high salaried teams" discourage you.

This morning before going to work, I went to the online matchup screen to see who I would match up against. Most of the matchups were 60 OVR opponents but I did come across one with 82 OVR which still would have been a nice challenge.

Okay, from what I can tell the strategy is even somewhat limited. If you think about it, you really don't make many choices as to how your team functions. You basically take a group of bad players and play Madden. You can only user player for a certain amount of time so it's not like you can put together the perfect 3-4 for the perfect power run team.
On top of that, you can't even compete against others on a real leaderboard.

To be honest, without playing friends, I just am not sure if I get the point of this. I really think this mode is made for kids who have money to waste and want to torture opponents by playing junk teams with loaded ones since you really can't hold onto a great team unless you purchase cards.

What happens if you never buy new players after their contracts expire? Does the mode implode? lol

The only way you can change uni's is to get a uniform card with a new team.

No custom uniforms... shame.
