MLB 10 News Post

ESPN Videogames have posted their first look at MLB '10: The Show.

Quote:
"MLB 09" was one of the best offline sports games of the year. But take the game online and it's virtually unplayable because of the constant lag that throws off the timing of every move, making even little things like check swings seem impossible. "We're fully aware of the complaints," admits Cutliff, "but we've made online playability a priority area for us this year to make sure the timing of everything from the release points to the swings and check swings finally look and feel right. The online game will be going through much more extensive testing than we've ever put it through before."

Now I can finally have my own offline franchise with more than just my brother passing the file around. We could get up to 6 hardcore members to do an offline franchise and just send the file around via sendpace that is if filesharing is still a feature.

And speaking of Franchise, there will be the ability to finally play Franchise mode with up to 30 players. "We have a lot of fans who want to control every team, every lineup, every injury … they actually want to go in and manually injure a player just so their franchise at home can have the exact rosters of real life," says senior designer Kolbe Launchbaugh. "The time they spend on these rosters and inside all of these various modes really blows my mind, and it's something we all take great pride in as we're working on the game."

30 teams controlled is great. Can't wait to see what else was added.

Thanks SCEA
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Everyone

The only thing that really does something for me off that list was Real Time Presentation. I really liked what 2K9 did with that last year and I think this will be a really nice upgrade this year. I also liked the fact that the replay system seems to be improved. Maybe we can actually pick camera angles and create the same type of replays the game shows us on HRs.

But not hearing about any defensive improvements has me really worried. Hopefully they will outline improvements later but the defensive gameplay in this game has been stagnant for years. That's arguably the biggest area this game needs improvement in. I don't play online, don't do Road to the Show and only play as a one person season so all those improvements might be great for many, but useless for me.

Sounds like some great stuff is here and coming, and I'm sure they didn't mention everything. I'd be curious about weather also.

Nice to know we can "manually" injure players (that should make certain people here VERY happy).

Be curious to see if commentary was touched.

This looks very good, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have more features their yet to realease. If not, this is still very impressive.

Basically in between plays - instead of a cutscene of the players walking back to the dugout or the players throwing the ball around the infield, etc. - the camera will never leave the player or the action and you will see these things happen in realtime - NO cutscenes. You will also see thngs happening during the game like active dugouts and bullpens all the while the in game action is going on. It will look even more like a live broadscast. Trust me - it's a BIG deal.

If you can stomach it - rent MLB 2K9 and you can see it firsthand. They had real time presentation and that was pretty much the only thing they got really right about that game(along with the announcing which was outstanding).

No mention of upgrades to franchise mode. Hopefully they worked on some of the problems with it, since I play it almost exclusively.

"But that's not the only visual treat that's been added to the game this year. You'll see things like cloud shadows moving across the field, daylight transitional lighting, dugouts and bullpens populated in real time (not just in cut scenes), and even playoff noise makers and towels in the crowd. Gamers can expect more animations of fans reaching over the rails, foul balls that will ricochet off both catchers and umpires, working analog and digital clocks inside stadiums, and fans from the visiting team populating stadiums, like when the Cubs play in Arizona and the Chicago faithful come out in full force wearing their team colors."

If the online play can be brought up to the same playability as other sports titles, the online franchise will be awesome. If we could get 30 OSers together in the same franchise... baseball heaven. Or what if we could even use our own rosters. How cool would it be to play an online franchise with Knight's rosters?

i am sure if weather was in, that would have been mentioned in the article.

wow, if its not.

It's really awesome that these guys take our request seriously. Daytime lighting progression is all I really need... Here's to hoping fielding has a more manual feel

I can't wait for this game. I was hoping for two things. 1) Be able to control 30 team....CHECK. 2) I was hoping weather would be added. NOt looking good. I want to see double headers, rain, snow, roofs closing ETC.

For me the most exciting news is the real time presentation and controlling all 30 teams. My brother-in-law has a 360 and 2k9. I loved how they had RTP in their game.

I also hope we read that right that you can now manually injure players to match real life. If that is for real I may be getting a divorce of March 1st!

The daytime progression is going to be awesome as well. Especially since I play exclusively in franchise with my Cubbies.

3 Things my wife needs to know before MLB The Show comes out March 2nd:

1. I am buying a PS3 at some point between now and March 2nd

2. I am buying MLB '10 The Show on March 2nd unless i find it elsewhere sooner.

3. I wont be accesable for roughly 4-7 days after obtaining MLB 10 The Show.

Hopefully they do not play all their games at night this year.

I desperately hope for manual arguments this year, that was a lot of fun in MVP. Of course with these guys, they'd add arguments./ejections, and fine you, and suspend you for 3 games LMAO

I have faith that it will. I mean, SCEA seems to really take to heart our feedback and reworked fielding was definitely at (or near) the top of most everybody's list.

I think it's safe to say there's no way everything they added was mentioned in that article.
