Quote:
"Setting a new standard in football video games, Backbreaker rushes the genre with a new playbook for hard‐hitting action. Players take control of an unmatched on‐field experience boasting realistic, physics‐based AI for an endless variety of unique sacks and tackles, making canned animations a last‐season memory. With crisp high‐definition graphics and a third‐person camera angle that follows the perspective of the ball handler, Backbreaker puts players in the heart of the game. Rookies can easily pick‐up‐and‐play thanks to Backbreaker’s intuitive Arcade Mode control scheme, while veteran players can enjoy the game’s more difficult Pro Mode that turns off AI assists.

Featuring 11 versus 11 matches, Backbreaker also boasts online multiplayer for up to four players and split‐screen multiplayer modes. With total team customization, players can create their own rosters and adjust their team’s colors, logos and more. Going on the offense from kickoff to end zone, Backbreaker is how football was meant to be played on next‐gen consoles. Players can hit the gridiron with Backbreaker for Xbox 360™ and PLAYSTATION®3 platforms in spring 2010."

There is franchise Skyboxer. Tortsen Reil, main guy on the project over at NM, has confirmed it. They have over 32 teams and have multiple seasons with scouting, drafts, progression, etc.

The only thing I hope for is we can select the number of teams. I'll happily play a 48 teams franchise, but it would be nice to use only 32. It would be crazy with 120 teams. College Football anybody!?!?!

Yeah that link is legit in one of these threads. A developer did confirm it.

There you go. The quoted message in the OP is Torsten Reil himself.

sorry but cheesing all day is no fun for me.
Join a league and you won't have to deal with cheesers.

I've played several hundred hours of Madden 10 and All Pro Football 2K8 and the only modes I play are practice and online league games.

With the customization tools this game has, there's no doubt leagues will be popping up around it.

I guess you could say it worked before, but Visual Concepts had done football before NFL 2K.

This engine isn't really unproven. Many big hit developers have used this. One that everyone knows is Rockstar. Now it hasn't been used for a sports game, but when I played GTA IV the first few days it was out, I thought to myself it would be nice to have this in football. Now it wasn't that cheesy of a thought, but just the way the civilians interact with each other and how they seem to be alive and breathing. They make decisions on the fly. When I shoot in the air they all interact individually and in unique ways. You have the hero of the crowd, the one who runs away and never stops running, then you have the one too scared to move, you have the one too scared to do anything, but they find cover and peak around to watch what happens next.

Everyone does something different. The engine works great in GTA IV and I can't wait to see it in a football game. I feel it will be a huge improvement.

I hope there are multiple camera options as well. I don't think I would like a close up 3rd person view. Another thing that really bothers me is the glowing red player when they have the ball. I have a feeling that this game will be more like Blitz than a sim game.

Its unproven in a football game. That's all I am saying.

Yea, thats why I mentioned "Now it hasn't been used for a sports game...". I know its not proven in the sports genre, but it is a proven engine.

Also, there are two ways to play the game. Casual and Hardcore. Hardcore turns off all AI and Visual Assists and turns into a sim type game. Casual is basically Blitz with a glowing ball, player, etc.

# 51 CreatineKasey @ 12/02/09 06:15 PM
Yeah I basically see this game as just another opportunity to enjoy the sport I love so dearly through another developer's perspective. Hopefully it's a winner!

All I want for Christmas is

some solid game play..
some solid game play..
some solid game play

geeee if I could only have some solid game playyyyy
Then I could wish you Merry Christmasss!

IT WILL NOT BE SHIPPED OUT FOR 60$...it is not yet confirmed but it has been in the forums for a while that a 40-50 dollar release is most likely

That's exactly why they chose that date... to guarantee sales for all late April birthdays

Oh geez. I guess we can't refute someones opinion. I mean Madden 10 is mediocre imo. To say its the best football game is a pretty bold statement.

I really really want Backbreaker to be awesome. I just think the gameplay will be average at best.

Agree BUT there hasn't been a football game in a while with better than average gameplay...
I really hope BB gets some sold sales just to keep the game better and better.

# 57 canes21 @ 12/02/09 08:25 PM
All Pro Football had better than average gameplay, but gameplay is also all opinion based. Some like Blitz, some like Sim style. Some like mixed in between like Madden.

I look for 100% sim, thats why APF 2k8 still goes into my XBOX every week.

# 58 CreatineKasey @ 12/02/09 08:42 PM
APF has the best gameplay ever created for a football game without a doubt. Backbreaker should use that game as a template for many things. Backbreaker's passing system sounds a lot like APF's kicking system. They should keep emulating that game.

# 59 canes21 @ 12/02/09 08:44 PM
Yes they should. Are you watching the game right now?

I know I'm hoping there's a franchise mode. It's not about whatever Madden does, it's that I like taking control of a team and carrying it through years of a league, not just restarting the same season with the same rosters over and over again.
Very well put.
