Quote:
"Setting a new standard in football video games, Backbreaker rushes the genre with a new playbook for hard‐hitting action. Players take control of an unmatched on‐field experience boasting realistic, physics‐based AI for an endless variety of unique sacks and tackles, making canned animations a last‐season memory. With crisp high‐definition graphics and a third‐person camera angle that follows the perspective of the ball handler, Backbreaker puts players in the heart of the game. Rookies can easily pick‐up‐and‐play thanks to Backbreaker’s intuitive Arcade Mode control scheme, while veteran players can enjoy the game’s more difficult Pro Mode that turns off AI assists.

Featuring 11 versus 11 matches, Backbreaker also boasts online multiplayer for up to four players and split‐screen multiplayer modes. With total team customization, players can create their own rosters and adjust their team’s colors, logos and more. Going on the offense from kickoff to end zone, Backbreaker is how football was meant to be played on next‐gen consoles. Players can hit the gridiron with Backbreaker for Xbox 360™ and PLAYSTATION®3 platforms in spring 2010."

"Custom" uniforms all look the same, just different colors. The 4th pic looks kind of strange. 4 people about 15 yds apart trying for the same pass.

I'll be glad to play it though when/if it comes out.

Definitely will be a deal breaker.

And I REALLY wish they would have modeled players and equipment more modern and realistic. This will be a fun rental. But I have no plans to commit to spending $60 for a demo of an awesome physics engine.

Franchise mode hasn't been confirmed or denied yet has it?

This is all I needed to know. This means people here at OS will fully convert these puppies to NFL teams with up to date rosters. I can't wait. I need a new football engine, EA's Madden & NCAA engine is killing my gaming. I haven't played hardcore like I used to in 3 years because of the quality.

100% agree even if there is no franchise mode the full custmization will probally get me to buy it anyways. That is if the physics turn out the way I think they are going to and the gamplay overall is solid.

Also I am not sure where it is has been said that their is no franchise mode for sure. I don't think that has been confirmed.

Honestly though if the physics and gameplay turn out to be top notch along with full customization I could stomach only having a season mode. I really never liked franchise modes that much in anything other than college football games anyways.

finally we know its coming out!

I'm going to buy it unless it just gets absolute horrible reviews. My reasoning: help the competition to force other companies to work harder. The more competition between game companies the better quality product gamers get to enjoy.

Franchise mode smanchise mode.

I played several hundred games of All Pro Football 2K8 because the gameplay was simply that good.

I see no reason why this game won't be just as fun.

I hope they have a fileshare feature so we can have an official OS Backbreaker ratings panel that works on a kick butt official NFL AND NCAA roster.

I wonder what the rating system is like. I'll be very interested to see what take Backbreaker uses. There's a lot of precedent set out there for ratings with abilities, and extremely intricate ratings by EA. I'd be just giddy if they went the ability route. Quick Hit went that way - but they are former 2k'ers. I'm more inclined to think we'll see numbers.

It looks like we won't be getting any league functions.. but that's totaly okay. We can run that on OS no problemo. I just need the superior gameplay and no canned tackles!!!

That there highlighted portion is EXACTLY what I believe this game is all about. Been saying it from day 1 after it was revealed that EA turned Natural Motion down to use the Euphoria engine in Madden. I think that they said prove to use that this engine can work in football game by creating your own and we'll see how the numbers play out, as well, and if it is successful, POW, we'll bring it in because honestly, when u think about it, the engine is not proven to work in a sports game, at all. Only GTAIV, Star Wars Unleashed and the upcoming Red Dead Revolver use the engine. That Indiana Jones game was to use it but the game got canned.
It would have been foolish to buy the engine and not be able to make a smooth transition into Madden because it could have REALLY messed up Madden and messed with their financial projections if the game would have gotten canned for a year but who knows if this is how it will play out or what have you.

Anyway, I want to check this out. The graphics are very weak looking but it goes back to what I believe - It's a demo aimed at EA. As long as they had the basics, I think it serves it's purpose, in that regard, just like the rest of the game sounding very basic, not even mentioning the inclusion of a franchise in the fact sheet. I believe it's all for EA to iron out once they get the engine and Nat. Mot. doesn't have to worry about the particulars and just have to get the game running and playing well.

Yeah it would definitely be plus since we can do this. I've been waiting for this game to come out for a while because, I just want something different. I hope Its fun to play when/if it comes out because, I'd be all for making a chargers team with them type of physics. If these physics really do change the way football is played on a video game then Its got my 60 bucks already.

I mean without the hopefully next level physics this game would have no way of even having a chance in competing or getting many sells. Hopefully the physics make it more real than it looks. Plus 11 on 11 sounds fun as hell no matter how arcadish it is. I know I would play 11 on 11 if blitz had it so I know I could play it on Backbreaker.

I see no reason why EA would purchase this engine - they already dominate the football game market (correction: they ARE the football game market), and I doubt if they will increase their sales of Madden significantly by improving the physics. That is, if it even is an improvement - I haven't seen this thing running, so while it sounds good on paper, it may not translate into anything that noticeable on-field. Even if it does improve the physics, something this arcane and subtle is completely irrelevant most gamers, so it doesn't make any sense for EA to spend any more money than the bare minimum on Madden to keep the status quo. If it ain't broke (from a profit margin standpoint)...

I see what ur sayin, but if this sells, like it seems it will EA, will feel the pressure...hard to say when most football fans want NFL football.....

but this does look sexy, hope it plays well and has franchise....gimme something else, i mean good football is great but regardless of the game, most folks want something else...if you dont like franchise, dont play it...but even APF had online leagues, and most folks quit playin after the servers went down, or whatever happened.

THIS GAME REMINDS ME OF OLDSCHOOL FOOTBALL....LIKE SUPERPLAYACTION FOOTBALL BEFORE THE INTERGATION OF NFL TEAMS & ROSTERS....WHICH STILL WAS PRETTY FUN TO PLAY......& PLUS IT WILL BE NICE TO SEE A NEW GAME ENGINE....! VERY RENTABLE,BUT NOT FOR $65 BUCKS PURCHASE. BUT IT'S FRESH & NEW & ALSO NEEDED FOR EA TO STEP THEIR GAME UP.

Gamestop has some more info on it:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6241612...ews;platform;1

Hopefully that wasn't posted already but I didn't find it here yet.

This is kind of disappointing though:
"While there's no hardcore franchise mode (NaturalMotion wants to keep the focus on playing football), Backbreaker offers a number of gameplay modes in addition to the typical season mode, which can last for as long as 32 games (or eight and 16 if you want shorter options)."

Full logo and roster customization sounds great but there's just no way to compete imo without a franchise mode.

Waiting for the arrival of this game reminds me of the waiting for the arrival of XOR's NFL Challenge Premium Edition. I bet about 2 people will even know what I am talking about.

If it has no franchise I couldn't care less. It's really strange to me how some people have made a franchise mode more important than what goes on between the white lines. That perplexes me to no end. It's almost like they don't care if the game plays terrible, just so long as they can play 20+ fantasy seasons with fake rosters... I don't get it.

But I'm from the old school where Season mode was the important thing and I guess that's always been enough for me. That never trumped the game on the field. The mode could be spectacular, but if the game didn't play well it was pointless because I'd never stick around to finish a season.

They couldn't compete even if it had one, at least not on a sales level.

This part is music to my ears: "(NaturalMotion wants to keep the focus on playing football)"

But we'll see just how much that really means.

Hopefully there is a fileshare system built into the game, similar to 2k's share system.

Or else people will have to make each team if they want a NFL, NCAA experience. Or alternatively use 360 datel and xport360 to share files, which can be a hassle.
