Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the latest Madden NFL 10 blog, featuring details on the 2nd title update.

Quote:
"The first update mostly talked about some of the planned Gameplay fixes but we've also focused on some other important, non-gameplay related fixes as well including Uniforms, Franchise Stat tuning, Replays and Scriptables. The uniform updates include updating the Seattle Seahawks' home uniform to default their home pants to be blue instead of white as well as adding in their new eye popping Neon Green uniforms that they wore in Week 3 against the Bears. We've also added tribute stickers to the Titans' helmets for Steve McNair and the Eagles' helmets for former Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson.

Some more updates that we have made based on the community feedback center around Replays. We've doubled the amount of time a replay could be recorded so longer plays, such as kick/punt returns or long interception/fumble returns would not have the beginning part of the play cut off. We have also increased the frequency of Auto Instant replays (especially after touchdowns), based on your feedback that told us they weren't appearing enough. Other updates include reducing the number of times the Chain Gang Measurement scene will trigger during the game and extending the time that we are in postplay by 2 seconds to give more time for the presentation of certain shots to finish before being cut off too early. The user will still of course be able to button through these if they want.

Finally, our resident Franchise guru Josh Looman, has been working hard at tuning stats for Franchise mode. He has increased the number of touchdowns HB's score in a season, decreased QB passing yards and touchdown passes per season, and increased sacks for 3-4 OLB's while decreasing sacks for MLB's and DT's. He has also decreased the injury chances for players with high injury ratings."

Supposedly, yes. Josh Looman mentioned fixing it so the tackles should be more spread.

This patch is trash if all they fixed were stats and cut scenes, but i did hate the chain gang and finding out if it was a first down or not

Anyways, here is the list of fixes from both blogs I put together.

Gameplay

Tuned flat zone coverage to be more effective

Improved pursuit angles for defensive players

Tuned QB throwing out of sacks (increased chances of CPU QB taking a sack, lowered trajectory of throws when QB is hit while throwing to cut down on INTs, better arm tracking to determine if it should be an inaccurate or uncontrolled throw)

Fixed some instances where a receiver would be ruled inbounds even if he only got one foot down on a catch

Fixed a rare problem where under certain circumstances the ball would actually pass through a player when he dropped the pass

Added an initial move to the RB on the HB direct snap plays so he can’t immediately take off after receiving the snap

Forced a QB drop initial move to force him to set up for a pass on Shotgun play action plays when you canceled the play action by hot routing the running back

Disallowed the user to be able to move any front line players forward on kickoffs to keep them from being able to actually block the kickoff

Resolved the exploit of being able to motion a receiver after flipping the play which caused the defender to go the other way

Fixed the bug where the QB could drift through the center when you repeatedly hot routed with certain quarterbacks

Fixed the clock running at incorrect times after an incomplete pass went out of bounds.

Presentation

Doubled amount of time replays can be recorded (long plays won't have beginning cut off)

Increased auto replay frequency (more frequent after touchdowns)

Reduced number of times chain gang measurement scene appears

Extended time in postplay by 2 seconds to give more time for the presentation of certain shots to finish before being cut off too early

Franchise

Tuned sim stats (more 3-4 OLB sacks, more RB TDs, less QB passing yards and TD passes)

Decreased injury chances for players with high injury ratings

Draft info added to player profile screen

Uniform Corrections

Seattle Seahawks white pants at home

Seattle Seahawks green alternates added

Tribute stickers on Titans' helmets for Steve McNair and Eagles' helmets for Jim Johnson

Try actually being responsible for reading it for a week.

Please, people. Read the entire thread before you post. Half the questions that have been asked are already answered. Half the people complaining about "Gameplay fixes being replaced with uniforms" miss the fact that they are tuning a lot of gameplay issues.

Hell, none of us have seen the patch, and we know some things are always thrown in under the hood. But of course no one will talk about that. No one wants to be "jocking EA" because that's not what the cool kids do, right?

This needs to be repeated.

There been a lot of good football lately so, I'm anxious to give M10 another go. It appears the patch is in Sony and Microsoft's hands so it's up to them to decide. If I recall correctly, they normally come out of Thursday's but, I could be wrong. IMHO, I think it will take another week or two but, that's a really big guess, so take it with a grain of salt.

Nice

No need for people to jump the shark and complain now let's see what the patch actually contains first. I can't wait to give the patch a spin. Sometimes EA throws in a few extras (in the patch) without mentioning them in the notes. One I remember is facial expressions in NCAA10. So hopefully we'll get a few extra bonuses.

Agreed. Try the damn thing first before you make judgements.

Some people need to get off and just wait for the patch. There are more things to life than waiting for a patch damn. Just give it time it will be here soon enough. It has excatly been two weeks today so it shouldn't be too much longer.

If you can't wait then play another game to pass the time.

Has anyone read anything anywhere about the weather being tuned?
It's odd that the demo had snow but now i can never get a snowy game at lambeau!

If you are going to complain, at least back your complaints up. I want to see where they put in words something GUARANTEED (Not "We'll try") and didn't deliver.

If you can't do that, I would wholeheartedly suggest you staying out of this thread and moving on to the Gripe thread, where "flock mentality" is welcome.
Didnt EA sports write blogs on how the CPU teams will play like their real life counterparts and how the CPU will adjust to what your doing.

well i played the Titans they ran the ball 10 times the whole game that's not much like the real life Titans now is it.

And one can constantly throw passes into the flats without consequence by the CPU.

# 112 trick02 @ 12/01/09 06:27 PM
I was mostly concerned with how easy it was to returner kicks for TDs and the cpu being unable to stop the run game and it looks like they didnt fix either of those. What a shame.

# 113 tarantism @ 12/01/09 06:42 PM
I am just happy because I started my franchise instead of waiting and it worked out. I was worried that I would have to restart.

If you are waiting if they fix the flats, that was already announced in the first blog about the title update.

If you reread the recent blog, you will note there are a couple of links that will take you back to the first blogs on the title update.

Those blogs tell you what they are fixing for game play and franchise areas.

Nothing is more frustrating than to constantly have the QB get the ball out and avoid the sack. I've gone through a couple years with my Franchises & my pass rushing specialists top off the seasons with mighty numbers such as 2-5 sacks a season. This has got to be fixed!!

Flats, Pursuit Angles, and the Lame Ducks are improved which is huge. Also they fixed many exploits. I believe BlueNGold explained everything in the last page.

BTW, I am really pumped about this patch! The Gameplay will improve tons and i won't have to force myself not to throw to the flats often. I am a franchise guy so sim stats is big for me! The unexpected additions with replay and draft history pumps me up too! And the fact that I don't have to restart my current franchise!

I think it is a very good thing that EA didn't rush the patch and took their time. Because of this I think it won't introduce any new bugs like NBA Live did. I atleast hope it wont.

# 117 ab2c4 @ 12/01/09 07:16 PM
I just hope they improved the overall play execution (and play calling) by the cpu when they are on offense. I think that is clearly the weakest part of Madden 10 and I really hope this upcoming patch will address the cpu offense. If not, there isn't any reason for me to keep the game since even with the sliders greatly in the cpu's favor I always kill them (and trust me, I am not a super Madden gamer).

Alright, I guess we are really going to do this...

First of all, how many minute quarters, and what play clock run off. Also, what are your sliders and level. Plus, how successful were they on those 10 attempts, and who were you.

And the flats has been confirmed in the patch.

From MY experience, CPU teams go to their stars players and stick to their game plan.

Oh and random weather. Argggg

About uniforms, its nothing but a color palette right? Do color palettes take up disk space, its not actual code or anything, or is it? ****, you should be able to run through the color spectrum as far as I'm concerned.

Cant you run through colors when creating a team? If so, why is it difficult to leave that open for the real squads.... I should be able to make the Browns whatever the hell color I want, lol.

I dont know, thats just me. Seems like
1. Random weather
2. Messy uniforms
3. field degredation
4. Colors for uniforms

would be alot easier to make happen over actual A.I coding like the flats coverage. Hey, what do I know, lol.
I'd imagine Messy unis and field degregation would actually be quite difficult to fit into the patch. Random Weather doesn't seem like it'd be that hard, though there might be a reason it's not in, such as no logic for the range of weather in certain stadiums, or retractable roof stadiums. I'm not sure though. Color for unis is obviously something they can do, as they've added AFL and Seahawks unis now. And the Browns' pants might be in. Not sure yet. I hope so, they've worn them a few times now.

As for why can't we mess with colors, that's an NFL thing. Back when you could modify uniforms for a team, you had to start from scratch to do so, with no logo on the helmet. With the Team Builder for NCAA, we now know more in depth creating and modifying is possible, but the NFL doesn't like gamers being able to change the image of its team. This was an issue back when they put in Owner Mode for 2004 or 2005.

Actually, tackles are not an officially tracked statistic by the NFL. Teams track them, and they all do it differently. For some teams, you have to make the tackle by yourself to get a solo tackle, like in Madden. Some teams do it the way you suggest. Some give a tackle to anyone in the general vicinity of the pile. The stats you see on NFL.com are actually taken from another site, I believe.

Awesome job, EA. Is this out? If not, when will it be out?
