NHL 10 News Post

EA Sports posted the NHL 10 title update details.

"Hey everyone, Rammer here. I want to start by thanking everybody for all the great feedback that we've been receiving via the NHL 10 forums and the NHL 10 twitter feed. Just recently, we talked about our first roster update as well as our new tuner sets that allow us to tune over 2000 variables in gameplay on a nightly basis if we wanted to. We will continue to listen to feedback and tweak gameplay as needed but unfortunately, these tuner sets do not extend outside of gameplay.

So, I want to let you know that we have a Title Update that is currently being tested by Sony and Microsoft. Once we get the final go ahead from them, the update will be made live for you to download. We are hoping both console updates will be available to you by November 5th but the way things work at times, it may be sooner (or potentially later). As I get a more solid confirmation of when the TU will be available, I'll post the info on twitter."

Bingo. That's the only thing keeping me from really sinking my teeth into this game. It's awesome otherwise.

I wish the online play could get better :S. working sliders would be great.

another thing which I think can at least reduce the cross-crease onetimers is that the goalies would stop throwing themselfs on the ice every time.

i remembered that in 09 had the same problem but they fixed it in a patch and it made it harder to score on onetimers generally.

This means a whole new slew of slider topics!

Fixes sound great, thanks EA.

I was hoping the freezing in franchise play (usually involving a scout's assignment) would be addressed. Nice to see the refinements though.

Maybe I missed something, but is the freezing issue in offline BAP going to be addressed???? I can't even play one game without it freezing.... Explaination?!?!?

It would be nice if they added an option to sim shootouts. I'm tired of wasting my time playing them knowing there is absolutely no way I'll ever score a goal.

Added the ability to escape a prefight circle by pressing L2/LB.

this will be nice online. I hate when you get stuck in the circle and a computer team-mate comes in to defend you.

what about the bug with not being able to unlock all the "win a game with each team in this league… same with this other league… and that league" gear unless you do each league in a particular order?

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/304025.page

I don't see that on this list.

did I miss something? Did I not see a mention to fix the terrible simmed stats in GM mode.

So this means that all the hitting and grabbing after the whistle will end and you go immediately to faceoff? This is a really good thing to me. Does it apply online?

And do we still have to sit through 3 stars and highlights at the end just to exit properly? You should be able to 'X' that out if you want.

Based on how badly the Blackhawks front office has screwed up that situation in real life, I don't think anything that happens in the game would surprise me as "unrealistic".

Seriously, if the Hawks were somehow relegated to the AHL for being $20 million over the cap, that'd be alright with me.

I can't tell you how many times I have done that, that makes me very pleased. Also as if the CPU G were not in-human enbough making saves they shouldn't be making most the time, they go and beef up their 5-hole. I'm all for the CPU G poking to stop CC's and D-men reaching behind them selves, but the G should not be made better then they already are. If anything fix the exploit where the guy skates accross the slot area goes to his backhand then forehand to do the curve shot, and is successful 75-80% of the time, and the other 20-25% of the time, they miss the net or hit the post.
Yeah, that was probably the only significant change there that address issues I'm commonly dealing with. Personally, I still wish there were better ways to play defense. I just picked up FIFA 10 the other day, and there are so many options there that would make sense in an NHL game, for example:

- Why can you tie up a guy on the boards, but there's no option to jostle with or other wise restrain the movement of a forward in front of the net?

- In FIFA, there isn't a "steal" or "poke check button", it's an "apply pressure" button that you hold down to engage the guy with the ball. In NHL, I feel like you're still penalized for using the poke check as opposed to trying to cream guys with checks. I'm not overly agressive with the poke check, but still take probably 4 penalties or more per game tripping guys, even from face-to-face angles. If I can't even try to knock the puck away without risking a penalty, what am I actually doing on defense?

This is one thing from FIFA I hope never gets into NHL. The "apply pressure" method that automatically locks the user defender onto the attacker is not a good thing IMO. It allows people to tackle without respect to proper positioning, momentum, and timing. I was happy to see them make it more of a standing tackle button this year, as now we can at least see some poorly timing standing challenges (which cause a large % of fouls in real soccer). I think FIFA needs to scrap the whole thing and rely on the user properly executing a standing tackle.

Now the apply pressure/2nd defender command I can see a better argument for, but I have my previously stated concerns about that as well -- the AI won't do anything unless you tell them to -- but it's a good concept.

maybe it isn't FIFA, but maybe you're the problem.

I agree... Yeah its really fun to hold down one button the whole game to play defense.

I hope they fix the ballistic AI that is killing me in my Red Wings dynasty! I can't hold a lead to save my life! Oh yeah, that's real life..... Never mind.
