NBA 2K10 News Post

2K Sports has posted another NBA Developer Insight, this one featuring NBA 2K10 Offensive Gameplay - Part II.

Quote:
"First we’ll talk about alleys. Fortunately, a lot of the changes to the dunk system were directly applied to alley-oops, which, along with the massive amount of new animations and a few other tweaks, makes our alley-oop system without a doubt the best and cleanest we’ve ever had. Unlike last year, we now have alley-layups. There’s no special button required to throw a layup vs. a dunk as it’s automatic based on ability and coverage. We have better distinction this year between the size and ability of a player when throwing an alley-oop and completing it. Last year you had to have a really good passer to complete one so we’ve reworked the criteria to be more realistic. Also new this year, there is a shot percentage on every alley-oop dunk and lay-up, which allows for the more difficult ones to not be successful even if the receiver catches the ball."

My interpretation was simply that they removed the ability to pump fake with 1.0 second left or less. I'm not sure how many people experienced this problem last year but I had it happen on a number of occasions, particularly when using a player with a shooting animation that required a longer-than-just-a-tap-of-a-button release.

So many times I'd catch the inbound (my momentum breaking as I caught the rock - something else they fixed) and I'd hurry to shoot with the clock winding down but in my rush, my shooter would simply ballfake and I'd double rush to shoot again and I'd ballfake once more and the game would end. So clearly, having the initiation of the "shoot" button with 1.0 second or less left on the clock being "pump-fake free" is a huge addition for me.

What's with the screwy terminology?

Their runners are actually floaters, the leaners are actually runners, and the drifters (??) are actually leaners.

And since when do you downshift a car to get more power? Last I checked, that either slowed your car down or revved the hell out of your engine if you weren't careful letting out the clutch.

lol @ computer programming nerds

Anyway, with my rant out of the way, there's some good additions here.

Downshifting can increase RPMs and torque. It helps get the car into the power band. But, it is also used for braking and you can blow up your engine if you try to drop too many gears.
