NBA 2K10 News Post

2K Sports have just posted another NBA Developer Insights, this one featuring NBA 2K10 art direction.

Quote:
"I want to first get into what makes our graphics more innovative than ever: Image Metrics. Before this year, we only used a maximum of 3 different blend shapes per head, which would limit the type of emotion you see on the players’ faces. The end result had the players looking more robotic than human when running around or even in doing simple actions such as blinking. Now, with the help of Image Metrics the facial animation goes beyond what we’ve ever been able to capture before. An actor is actually recorded with a camera connected to their face to capture how facial muscles work and better document a facial animation. Now, simple animations such as blinks are not so much just moving the eyelids, but rather the cheekbones, muscles, and so much more. We took it a step further and sent Image Metrics the actual NBA footage of the players with signature expressions and signature intros, so that way we actually have the facial animation to match the body animation. We are not limiting this to the players either. Coaches, assistant coaches, and others will have better facial models and animations to bring the most realistic looking characters to any sports game you’ve ever seen."

He's a guy who got a chance to play 2K10. Look for "Aaron's impressions" thread, or something like that...

" A polished and upgraded version of NBA 2K9 (2K10) may very well end being not only the best basketball game of the year, but the best basketball game ever ! "

How in the world can you be a member of this site for almost two years and not know who he is?

If he doesn't come around enough to know who the mods are, missed that big *** thread with information, and won't search to find the answer to a question that has been asked time and time again, then I'm not going to cut him any slack. He's been visiting this specific board alot so there's no reason for him to miss the thread.

Actually I have no idea who he is either. I have no idea who 99.9% of the people here are, and probably will never know.

You posted in his thread yet you don't know who he is, that makes alot of sense.

All of these additions make me very happy. I frequent the Operation Sports 2K Basketball Wishlist quite often and I see all these great ideas for detailed and signature additions to the series but I always end up saying to myself, "Yeah, awesome, but would a company ever decide it'd be worthwhile to make these things inconsequential to actually gameplay happen?" I'm happy to say that it appears 2K gets it and they're going for the complete picture, not just isolated elements.

With that said, I'm still quite surprised they touched on as many details as they did (more accurate and varied cheerleader and mascot dances and movements?) I think it's all great. It certainly bridges the gap between reality and video game a bit. The small things are definitely special.

With that said, my favorite parts of the article were:

1) The picture of what appears to be the intro at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

and

2) The acknowledgment of retro jersey additions and adjustments. I hope they didn't take out too many but on that same hand I hope they added a considerable amount. Just the fact they decided to speak up and declare change for the first time since. . .mid PS2 times gets me hyped up. These can really help when creating and using classic teams.

nice blog... curious to the pre-game introductions, the little screen at the right top looks promising...

I dont care about names. I dont even read the names on a forum. And second. I read the Impressions thread before and after reading it twice I still cant find any specific answers to the blurry ps3 textures. So YOU dont tell me how I have to use this board.

Well then I guess you miss out on the answer to your question. Doesn't matter to me.

Textures are enhanced this year. Court logo, player textures, etc... all will see a face lift. You're welcome.

Stop giving this guy such a hard time.

Pre-game intros, now will this be the actual introduction of players as well? If so, I'm really pumped for this year's game!!!!
