NBA 2K10 News Post

ESPN's Jon Robinson sees evidence of greatness in the upcoming NBA 2K10.

Quote:
"When the "NBA 2K10" producers announced that they were lowering the player ratings in their game across the board to better separate the superstars you cheer from the bench players doing all the cheering, all you have to do is look at Jerome James and his embarrassing 42 overall to know they weren't messing around. Other casualties of the ratings game include Adam Morrison (crashing hard to a 55 overall) and even former 2K Sports spokesman J.J. Redick, who despite showing some flashes in the postseason, drops to a 52.

But the change in attitude over the ratings isn't the only aspect 2K Sports was looking to adjust, as in speaking to the game designers, they look back to "NBA 2K7" as still being the best in franchise history. "When fans talk about 'NBA 2K,' they always go back to '2K7,'" says producer Rob Jones. "After they see what we've done with 'NBA 2K10,' they won't need to talk about any of our older games. '2K10' is going to be the game everyone talks about from now on."

Just a little off topic: I know its early to say this but do yall think NBA2k10 can be the best sports game 2k ever put out since NFL2k5 and have the potential to surpass NFL2k5 as the greatest sports game 2k ever put out. I know its sound kinda farfetch to say something like this early since we are a month and couple of weeks to go.
It is true, whoever Chase talked to from VC told him that.

This is a bold statement to make. As a fan of 2k, I would definately say 2k7 did set the bar for nba gamers. Heck, most 2k fans joined the train in this year. So to simply say "2k7 is going to be the game everyone talks about from now on." is something they are going to have to "put up or shut up." Hopefully 2k doesn't end up like Madden in this reguard. Madden has a history of bring out the good in a game until it hits the shelves, it was the same game of last year just increased in presentation (although its not even accurate to true-to-life NFL). It's a shame the fans had to suffer to a degree because of this 'lie' or 'stretch of truth'. - Be careful 2k

NBA2k10 I pray doesn't have the reverse effect of being too real because, just as NFL2k5 selling for 20$ and pissing the NFL off to the point they sell the license I can see the NBA powers that be saying "we don't want our pro players represented so poorly with low ratings in an NBA videogame" and run off selling the license to EA.

Just as NFL2k5 became the benchmark for sports Football and we lost it. I don't want NBA2k10 to repeat history becoming the benchmark then getting sent packing.

Everything about the game seems so great right now.

Hmm... with that being said I think i'm going to upgrade to the gold locker addition so the NBA can see how much money this years version brought in.

The NBA sees he potential of having numerous titles representing their product. They are too smart to let go of the many things that they gain from allowing the different ties to compete with their own representation. I don't like Sfern's business practices but I give him credit for thinking long term sensible. He is part of the reason the league is getting more of a worldwide fanbase than some other sports.

On a different note, that was an interesting article. I just hope these articles translate into what I anticipate when I first pick up that controller for the fist time and take part in the next iteration.
