NBA 2K10 News Post

ESPN's Jon Robinson sees evidence of greatness in the upcoming NBA 2K10.

Quote:
"When the "NBA 2K10" producers announced that they were lowering the player ratings in their game across the board to better separate the superstars you cheer from the bench players doing all the cheering, all you have to do is look at Jerome James and his embarrassing 42 overall to know they weren't messing around. Other casualties of the ratings game include Adam Morrison (crashing hard to a 55 overall) and even former 2K Sports spokesman J.J. Redick, who despite showing some flashes in the postseason, drops to a 52.

But the change in attitude over the ratings isn't the only aspect 2K Sports was looking to adjust, as in speaking to the game designers, they look back to "NBA 2K7" as still being the best in franchise history. "When fans talk about 'NBA 2K,' they always go back to '2K7,'" says producer Rob Jones. "After they see what we've done with 'NBA 2K10,' they won't need to talk about any of our older games. '2K10' is going to be the game everyone talks about from now on."

Most sports developers are going in the direction of having authenticity be the source of the fun factor, instead of lightning fast, twitch based, User control always outweighing the players skill set, governing gameplay. I for one am glad that is the case.
Indeed, I love the direction they are going in this year. It's all about replicating the game as it is played. In real life weight, momentum, fatigue, movement ability, etc... all play a part in the game. Sometimes I think some folks would tell the NBA to speed things up by removing the laws of physics and human physiology from the game.

I love the feel of the combine. It's awesome. I love the animations. It seems very fluid and lifelike. I can't wait for the full game to drop.

Yeah I read past the defensive rotations bit I guess... don't know why I didn't notice that. Anyway, good news.

makes perfect sense to lower player ratings especially when a player's rating will depend on how much floor time they get.

Why is Morrison rated higher than Redick? Not a fan of either, but that doesn't make sense

Imo. Morrison is more versitile offensively. They are equal defensively.

Sounds great. Im looking at getting another ps3 or 360 on ebay now, after selling both in march.

I wonder if 2k would have included Rubio in the game? Seems to me that to their knowledge he might have been playing in the league, so heres to hope seeing him in the FA pool

yeah this one kind of had me frazzled too...i agree that morrison is more versatile offensively, but he hasn't shown anything. i HATED reddick in college, but reddick has actually found a role (albeit a small one) for the Magic. he actually sees the floor while morrison gets splinters every night...

i guess in my mind i had reddick as a low-end bench contributor (60) and morrison as a non-bench contributor..end-of-the-bench guy(55)

in my mind i saw guys like jerome james (DNP specialists) in the 40's, end of bench guys and players drafted in the 2nd round in the 50's, bench players and 1st round draft picks in the 60's (with the exception of the elite bench contributors like jr smith (73) lamar odom (78) ben gordon (75) and jason terry (74) average to solid starters from 70-79. Good Players like vince carter and iguodala from 80-84. 85-89 for very good players with 2+ seasons at a high level of play (i.e. granger, durant, kevin martin and brandon roy) and 90-98 for elite guys like kobe (98) lebron (97) dwayne wade (95) and CP3 (94)

i got a question for you guys, is tim duncan still an elite player? i kind of see him in the 89 range. no lower than that tho...actually on second thought...(looked at his numbers) that dude still averaged 20 and 10...that's amazing. i'd give him a 90.

more than anything else i just hope the lowered ratings still allow guys to be effective, just not indefensible like they were too many times last year.

82games.com

wow I remember a while back telling a few posters that 2k could very well implement the same tech that live did last year just find another database source since tendency ratings and DNA are the samething all that would need to occuer would be to increase the amount of tendencies and ratings and use a database to base it off ... feels good to be right

Gooooood preview. Damn Jerome James a 42???? haha that is cold though.
My goodness 9,000 NEW animations?

The combine plays real smooth, I can only imagine how smooth the demo will play once it drops...

Once again great Preview. and Jrobinson is a credible sports game reviewer. I have a feeling 2k is going to blow us away when we get our hands on either video footage or the demo. Live has definitely stepped up, but 2k didn't need as much improvement IMO.
Im POSITIVE that they went harder than ever this year. Looking forward to getting my hands on this.

man i hope this game is gon be like they say it is. In my opinion, 2K Games dun been falling off wit the NBA Franchise eva since 2008 and they need to show that NBA 2K10 is the game to get this year. (btw, im a NBA 2K fan)

If you're going to say that someone has been "falling off wit...eva since" make it a longer time frame than one year.

I think the expections are a little too high for 2k every year. So they are critiqued more and not given credit for improvements. And I think that the expectations for the competitor is very low/poor. So being impressing or "improving" is a lot easier. I predict 2k10 will be fire. And I'm loving all the options in 2k10. I trust them to make a great (not perfect) bball game every year. They have a history of do so.

Wait til they start dropping videos. They will strike last, but it will be fresher in our minds.

# 97 jiggamayne03 @ 09/02/09 12:07 AM
2k fans don't worry. they do this EVERY year. they let Live come out with a lot of vids and info and trailers to make you think what is 2k doing to keep up. then a few weeks slide by and 2k says, "ight enough of chillin, lets give em some info, keep em anticipated." then Live comes out with MORE vids and then 2k says ight we'll give you a vid or 2. then when live comes out it's HORRIBLE as usual, then 2k comes out and 2kfans go ape ****. moral to the story-CHILL

Great post. Completely agree.

The fresher part is so true.

Read/watch something, get excited about it. Read/watch something else, get more excited about that, lol.

Back and forth at the moment but I'm not complaining at all. This article did it for me and I'm eager for more now.
