NBA 2K10 News Post

IGN has posted their hands-on preview of NBA 2K10.

Quote:
"The NBA 2K series has been pummeling NBA Live into the ground over the last few years. There's no doubt that Live is looking stronger than it has in a long while this season, but NBA 2K is aiming to raise the bar even higher with NBA 2K10. I recently spent some time at Visual Concepts to get my hands on a preview build of the game. And yes, I beat both developers that I played – though they always go easy on us journos.

The first and probably most important new addition to the 2K formula is called NBA Today. It's both a small mode in the game and a feature that permeates just about every other game you'll play. From the main menu clicking on NBA Today will bring you to a list of real NBA games that are set to take place. For our purposes – and since the NBA season hasn't started yet – we were treated to a list of pre-season games. NBA Today not only keeps up with the current NBA schedule, but it also has an effect on things like franchise mode."

And if you can, I tender the same offer I gave to Stumble. Lemme get in a league practice game with you and see you score 80pts with Joe Johnson in 20 mins.
The L Trigger is an issue
The behind the back dribble is an issue as well
The spin move is an issue

Nah I can't dunk at will with Joe Johnson but I can with Josh Smith like you said.

I can also run UNDER/BEHIND the basket and shoot a layup with Aaron Brooks whenever I please. No matter how much traffic is present

The standard gameplay is something that I spent quite a bit of time with and I noticed some significant changes to the core mechanics. For starters, IsoMotion, the dribbling mechanic that governs how you handle the rock, has been simplified. The developers felt as though the old IsoMotion was a bit too inaccessible, so they've gone to great lengths to ease players into it. Now the left trigger is all you'll need to execute IsoMotion moves. The right trigger opens up a few more advanced dribbles, but the left trigger should be your focus. I was able to easily pull off crossovers, spin moves and size up moves using the new mechanics. Even the likes of Monta Ellis was able to cut and weave his way through the defense for a 20+ point performance
What a joke...This really pissed me the hell off. Makin it easier for people who just wanna spin and crossover to the hoop and jam. How could they possibly make the isomotion easier? The hell?

I can! Im really trying to get pumped for 2k this year. Hell i even have the collectors edition reserved, but its really not looking that appealing to me. Maybe because 2k9 burned me, but it really seems like the series is starting to cater to the mainstream and away from the hardcore fans like us who have been with them since dreamcast.

Remember when you were rewarded for sim play and punished for arcade play? Based on last year it seemed like push LT while moving, spin, spin, behind the back, dunk was all the game was.

Im waiting on vids and the demo, but if it feels even remotely close to 2k9, im not buying 2k10. I will just stick with NBA 2K8 and Live 10.

All of the 2k fanboys might call me a EA fanboy, and its cool, because EA is what i grew up on, but i have been a 2k fan since day one, so my opinion is not baised. I really hope the vids and demo change my mind though.

2K is really starting to become the pretty girl with the stinky breath, while Live is transforming from the ugly duckling to the prom queen.

I can somewhat deal with that kobe, but wade looks horrid. And why does Jrich look like a hobo? Man, they messed his face up.

Biggest thing that worries me is that the game was supposed to be in "submission" mode so they had to remove some of the final effects to keep the framerate @ 60 fps. Does that mean we are going to have framerate issues this year? When they actually do put the finishing touches on the game, are we gonna have to worry about slow down on plays, in the open court, stuttering on plays, etc. I'd hope it runs @ or near 60 fps with facial expressions, prodecural awareness, eyes that track the ball, sweat/sheen effects, etc.

That's my biggest concern. Basketball needs to be played at a smooth rate and any more framereate choppiness would be big trouble.

The detail even goes as far as to gauge a player's head position while driving to the basket

Kobe looked like some kinda vampire in one of those pics.

Anyway, I'm tired of being continuously underwhelmed by IGN sports game previews.

funny you saw this because visual concepts is responsible for some of EAs titles back in the day

but monta doesnt use crossovers like that to break his man down...he doesnt have handles liek that.. he has one basic right to left cross but hes not an "ankle breaker"

hes just fast and runs past people. and elevates quickly.

:/
