My worries are about the future. Im not so sure Madden looks at this as the starting point. They could get to unheard of points by adding stuff to this, as an example they can go in and add city skylines, to pregame and end of quarter, custom soundtracks, and highlights with announcing during them but i am nervous that this isnt their vision or something. I am worried that they are content and this will be the presentation for a few years now.

Next year they cant just use the same extra point show and add onto it. They have to do a whole new version from the ground up. If it were animated, they could change clothes and add audio and animations while keeping what they had thus building up an even more dynamic thing each year.
Good points. As it stands, I'd keep the guy introducing the show and then use him for the highlights. Keep all the overlays there and let him talk through them, using a little more of variety in word choice. If you listen to the halftime show, he introduces it and she follows with just about the same words.

They also need to round off the flow of sentence structure. It's too robotic.

Again, I understand that this is not the main focus of the game, so we're not going to see the first iteration all polished and perfected. I do hope they keep at it.

This was a nice start for EA...but 2K5's halftime show obliterates this by a mile! I still think Madden 10 will be a great game in the gameplay department...but this halftime show seems a little stilted in the delivery. There was no commentary on Mannings interception in the endzone or any of the halves big plays. IDK

I know people are tired of saying NEXT year, but this is something I felt should have been nailed the first time through. And it would not kill EA to give the commentary especially of the highlights more life, if you will. It just seems very stale...even though the music is GREAT and FITTING...we need that commentary and it has to be excited like the PA Announcer guy from MAdden 08! Or charismatic like Berman in 2K4 & 2K5....oh well, we will see.

*for now NFL 2K5 stays in my tray even after I buy Madden 10'. Good work though Ian and Co.

I do think it's a little sad that we (regular folk) can instantly point out the lack of enthusiasm of the commentators, or lack of highlights. It's just something else to add to EA's reputation of things that don't make sense, and probaly have no good reason for being absent-except laziness. This is supposed to be a sim, not Ian's little pet project. These kinds of flaws are no better than what David Ortiz was doing.

Just give us a damn NFL sim! Yes, this game seems to be headed in a very good direction, but still, the same ol' laziness is evident.
If it's not laziness, then it's simply lack of skill. No excuses, now or ever. Get it together, EA.
So the fact that 2k5 did things better in their halftime show automatically makes EA lazy?

Man come on people... if they didn't do anything you guys would be complaining and now that they made a good effort considering everything else they did to the game this year people still bash them. IMO the interface is much better and I also like that they are using real people. So while 2k5's halftime show does things better than madden 10's, madden 10's halftime show does things better than 2k5's imo. Also, many people wanted the Tony Bruno Radio show back and I'm pretty sure that we can all agree that the madden 10 extra point show is way better than that.

Also, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that the madden 10 half-time/extra point show is better than the shows in sports games like NBA 2k9, and MLB 09. Like don't get me wrong, there's problems with the madden 10 shows, but I honestly can't complain much.

I don't think its fair to call the Phil/Ian and their crew lazy or view any portion of Madden '10 as half assed given where this series was a year ago compared to where it is this year.

Yes, there are plenty of more things that the Madden series needs to tweak/implement/and focus on, but that shouldn't take away from the strides that this series made in a year. Its my opinion, and many others from reading various boards/previews, that the comparison from '09 & '10 is night and day.

And we can talk about how long it took to get here until we're blue in the face. The bottom line is that we are here now. What's the ol'saying, better late than never?

Something that I don't like...

Alex says "Now lets check the highlights from your game". Shouldn't it be "the game"?. Like, isn't this presentation delivered as if it's real and not in a video game? Don't get me wrong, like I said a good number of times in this thread before, I like the new presentation a lot but when you add stuff like this, you shouldn't have commentary telling the user "This is what happened in your game". It's just pretty tacky (for the lack of a better word).

I think it looks good for it's first year in madden 10. I am sure Ian and Phil will spend alot more time on it this year to make it even more real fun for madden 11. But been it's first year in I am loving it so much. Can't wait.

i was thinking the same thing.. but this just goes back to the whole game in general always feels like its rushed out the door before fully shaken out.

i could list many things that make it into the final release of this game, that just make me shake my head and wonder how in the world Ian sees this stuff, and thinks it looks or sounds right to him.

Actually, I can remember times when J.B. specifically references "your game" at halftime or commenting on "your game" after highlights.

A lot of people don't realize this, but halftime shows are shot 2 to 3, sometimes 4 times during each game slot. They do the same highlight package and then follow it up with commentary for your specific game you are watching.

wow...

I will just stay on topic and say that a lot of those suggestions should not be focused on until the core gameplay problems are fixed. Things like goofy AI and animations are game killers in my opinion. Those are the key elements necessary for everything else to make sense. I hope offseason player antics don't get put in the game before these big parts.

# 132 boooey @ 07/21/09 04:41 PM
what they should do is have a sub team of devs knock out the presentation and haltime show 100%. just do it right and finish it "This Year" for once.

this could of been done.

Well, from where I sit it looks like EA has finally gotten close to where we think the game needs to be presentation-wise. While the new halftime show and weekly recap still aren't in the same league as 2K5, it's good enough for now. I'm impressed by the effort, and more importantly I think the weekly recap will be something I look forward to. Can't remember the last Madden feature I could say that about.

As others have said, though, the writing is terrible. Awful. The woman speaking at halftime says "Here are highlights from your game." No, sweetie, it's not my game, it's a game between the Steelers and Bears. Telling me it's my game simply reminds me I'm playing a video game. The presentation should be set up so that we feel like we're watching a real NFL game. And the transitions between sentences are really rough. Reminds me of that old SNL skit during the first Gulf War where celebrities held a welcome home ceremony for each soldier, and when showing a video of President Bush thanking the honoree they spliced in obviously canned footage of him saying the soldier's name. Hilarious. Hope they get that smoothed out next year.

OK, enough of that rant. I'm buying this game mainly because of online franchise. The Extra Point is a bonus.

Hey...At least it appears they may have gotten rid of Hammonds' awkward halftime transition comment of "now it's time for a brief halftime break."

I don't understand what this "do it right or don't do it at all" camp is. I do know that I don't want to be in it because apparently you guys are saying that you would rather accept this:
Watch the first 20 seconds.

Instead of this:

Which, although is not perfect, it is an actual halftime show which can be built upon even more for next year instead of them just waiting to introduce it for Madden 11. I'm not trying to defend Madden or the Madden team, but I don't find the halftime show a sign of laziness. I'm sure everything has to be made within a certain time, and judging by all of the improvements, it seems as if the Madden team implemented a ton of stuff this year, that didn't seem realistically possible. I never truly thought that Madden would have what it has now, because next-gen Maddens so far has catered to tourney-style or casual gamers rather than SIM gamers.
