NCAA Football 10 News Post

NCAA Football’s dynasty mode is one of sports gaming’s most heralded career modes. Not only has the mode been the most popular mode in NCAA Football for nearly a decade, it also took it’s act online to great success beginning last year.

Unfortunately, after just over a decade of incremental improvements, the mode has began to suffer from a lack of innovation and ultimately, it just feels stale.

Outside of the presentation, dynasty mode is one of the biggest reasons why NCAA Football 10 ultimately falls short of being praised as a great title. The mode itself is still technically good, but long-time players of the series are quick to remark how little the mode has seemed to change over the past few years.

Differentiate TV Games - I know having more than one announce team is impractical, and it's understandable. However, why can't the broadcasts for regional, national, and game of the week type of games all be handled differently? One little touch is different intro music for each type of game. Another thing you could possibly do is have some sort of a different ESPN branding for each type of game. There are a lot of little things you could do to make big games seem bigger and lesser games seem more normal.

this would be sooo easy! just throw an ESPN2, ESPN U, Gameplan, ect logo up for lesser games! i too remember how sweet it felt to finally get a game on national tv with a small school. if i'm playing on ESPN on a Thurs. night, it should be a better atmosphere than playing at noon on Sat. with no TV.

GREAT THOUGHT andy4theherd,
Here's another vote for differentiating the audio/broadcasts. I think it could very easily be done by having EA release all the event specific commentary as user customized plug-in points. With all the unused memory on these next generation consoles--it is more than doable. True, there may be hundreds or even thousands of spots but it would give the user more customization--and that is what most want.
Example: upon 1st down event--replace brad nessler's commentary with either one's own voice (OR even-- for those with copies of historic games from ESPN or dvd or old radio broadcast--classic commentators doing old school games.........Think about having KEITH JACKSON or HOward Cosell or Curt Gowdy or EVEN THE VOICE from NFL FILMS john fucenda----TALK ABOUT SPINE TINGLING EPICS)

I wish NCAA Football, or Madden, had some type of competition. Generally speaking, football games haven't evolved too much since the 2k Series went down. And since we all know NCAA Football follows Madden, without competition for one is basically killing the other. Hell, part of the reason people are so excited for Madden this year is because it seems like half the of the new features is being taken off of 2k5. Imagine where football games would be now if there was a competition to better one another?

Ohh, what could have been.

Worst feature: In-season recruiting!!! It makes the dynasty go so slooooow.

The quicker to the next game the better.

If this isn't sarcasm, you should be slapped.

I like the differentiating idea for TV games. That would make a real difference. But actually, number 12 is the one I agree with most.

I would like to see some presentation upgrades in a big way, but I'm just not into the whole AD/coaching thing. I just wanna play football.

Gold. Great write-up. I support it fully. Let's hope the devs see that and hang it on their cubicles.

Great read, hopefully EA heeds some of your advice in the future.

i would really like a radio guy from madden but a new one or just the PA for smaller games and have it like that it would be awesome

Good article. I would love to see a closed dynasty option ala 2k sports College Hoops 2k8. I would love to start off at a smaller college like Idaho, or even a division II school and work my way up to a BCS conference school

Also, I strongly agree with #10 as well. This is much needed to add immersion to the game mode.

Great article. My favorite thing is the budgets and scheduling contracts. That would be awesome if you could schedule big name schools and get more money to become more competitive in a smaller conference. I like all the ideas and would love a complete overhaul of the mode, but those ideas alone would make it so much more fun.

these are great ideas, I wish they were in the game. Problem is I do not think EA is listening. It appears as though they are content with adding useless features and not taking any risks when it comes to making the game.

Hopefully Tiburon is content with the gameplay to actually focus on immersion because it is non existent in this seriers thus far.

Prob already said...but what ive seen from Madden 2010 presentation style (which most of it looks like was in NFL 2k5 lol) should have or needs to be implemented into NCAA 2011 if not improved upon the Madden 2010 version. Again of I havent played Madden 2010 but from just some of the vids the presentation it self looks a lot better.

I guess you can give NCAA a +1 for putting in bands at the beginning of the game. Off topic but for LSU does anyone thing it looks like LSA?

Some wonderful ideas in this thread. One thing I've always wanted is the ability to upgrade facilities. In my original NCAA 07 dynasty I took a small 1-AA team and built them into a powerhouse. Even though it was fun getting to the level that I could recruit 4 and 5-star prospects and winning national championships, the collegiate atmosphere was always sorely lacking because I was forced to play in a stadium that could only hold a couple thousand people.

Adding some of these things might be great, but without working sliders, accurate rosters, and improved AI we would still have a broken game.....but with more features. Isn't that where we are at right now?

DON'T ENCOURAGE EA TO ADD MORE FEATURES!!!!!!!!! ENCOURAGE THEM TO FIX THE CORE GAMEPLAY!

Too many people on here are complaining that the problem is that EA isn't fixing the core gameplay and are just adding features. Why for the love of God do we have articles encouraging this exact behavior? It really blows my mind, it really does.

I agree in part, A deeper coaching experience is needed but deeper only as it pertains to the on field action and building the team.. boosters, news media, how about players getting in trouble, suspended like they used to, players that need to be rehabbed back into plsying shape, toos to scout the opponent effectively

This isn't a new feature, it's fixing/adding to a current feature which I'm personally fine with and wish would happen. You can fix gameplay and improve/add to features you have in the game already, look at Madden this year.

I totally agree, the problem is EA for whatever reason isn't doing both with the NCAA series.

Idk about this really. I like making dynasties where I dont have to focus so much on being the head coach, and maybe its just because im used to it, but, I like being that wierd "force" that controls what happens in the football program, controlling the coach when necessary and controlling the players when necessary.
